I sort of like talking about this, and I figure some of you out there must have your favorite drinks...

So discuss. I personally have not really pin-pointed my favorite yet, but I love most blush wine. Nice mix of sweetness and dryness, if that makes sense.

Wine - A nice, full red. Preferrably a chianti, merlot, or a cab. As far as cabs go, I've never had anything better than the Monte Bello from Ridge Winery in California. Of course, it's about $300/bottle...

Sake - Onikoroshi. It's not as dry as some sake-drinkers prefer, but it has a pleasant sweetness to it, and is very, very easy to drink. Best served cold. Usually runs $17/1 cho.

Whiskey - Anything 18 yrs or older is fantastic, usually. Four Roses, Glendronach (expensive!!!!!), etc. Half-rocks, or just neat.

Shochuu - Satsuma Shiranami Imo Jyouchuu is fantastic stuff, as far as potato-based shochuu goes. I had a shiso-based shochuu at the bar mentioned in my story :D that was fantastic, but I didn't get the name of the label. I've also had 100 proof shochuu that will clear your sinuses and could potentially clean your car's engine, but tasted great.

Beers - Oh, beer... how I love thee. Favorites: Pyramid Brewery Hefeweisen, almost anything from Yebisu Brewery, Guiness, etc. I like my beers thick and wheaty.

As far as cocktails go, I'm a gin-T man. I'll drink the occasional froo-froo stuff, but a solid gin tonic with a lime is a great way to finish off the evening (or get it started :D ).

I can't stand the taste of regular beer or wine, but for a beer type drink my favorite is Smirnoff Twisted Black Cherry. Mike's Hard Lemonade is good as well. For harder stuff, you can't beat vodka, and you can put it in all kinds of drinks. I usually go with Skyy, but I'm not that particular.

I don't have much experience with the more expensive liquors. I don't know anyone who drinks those types, and I really don't want to buy a whole thing of scotch or whatever and realise I hate it.

Red wine... ah I love the merlot. Probably my favorite of the type.

I once had a bottle of red wine that was going to be opened on my graduation night... but my mom's asshole ex-boyfriend drank it one night while he was drunk. And I had tried some of my mom's bottle once, so I knew it was going to be good... Sucks big time.

For whatever reason, those mixed bottled drinks (Smirnoff Ice, Mike's Hard Lemonade, etc) give me some sort of reaction. I don't know what it is... I usually turn bright red when drinking (damn Asian blood!!!), but with those drinks, I turn blotchy and orange. My heart starts beating really fast, and I just feel really bleh. Hence, I stay away from those =\

Had a bad experience with vodka back in college, so unfortunately, I have to stay away from the stuff. I didn't drink too much or anything, just had the unfortunate experience of drinking a few shots of some really, really cheap/horrible stuff. It twisted my stomach in ways that pains me to remember, and worst of all, I never threw up, so it stayed with me all night :(

I'm finally able to drink beverages with a hint of vodka, but nothing more...

(And if you aren't sure about the more expensive liquors, just go to a bar and order one. It's cheaper than buying a whole bottle and wasting it. Make sure to get it half-rocks, as it lessens the hard edge of the liquor if you're not used to it. Half rocks is where it's on the rocks and water is added to dilute it a bit.)

I like girly drinks, sorry to say. Daquiries, Margaritas, ect...
I love blush wines too. For some reason I just never developed a taste for beer.
Honestly though, I don't drink very much, mostly because I'm a MAJOR lightwieght and I fear being intoxicated in public :p

I'm a lightweight as well. And girls drinks aren't bad at all. I like the sweet drinks just as much as any other liquor that tastes good.

My mother makes margaritas almost every week, and I love it.

Beer is something I am VERY picky with. I will only drink Kirin, Heineken, and some Irish beers... sometimes lagers if I feel up to it.

Kahlua, Long Island Ice Teas, Cassis Orange or Bourbon and Coke makes me a Happy Pooka.

Bourbon and coke is very nice. I can't say I drink it too much, but it does settle me down nicely.

Yeah I don't get drunk, but I do drink to get relaxed... a little tispy, even.

It isn't considered a liquor, but Schnapps is very, very good. It's on the sweet side, so those that don't like the sweet alcholic beverages should probably stay away from this. Has a nice kick to it, though.

Alcohol, eh? I have to admit there's not a lot I DON'T like in that department.

Personally I'm a fan of the 40%+ alc/vol range. Anything there or over. Beer just annoys me, it's bitter, not tasty and it's just... bleh.

I forgot about schnapps. Peachtree is pretty good. I've never gotten the whole "girly" drink thing. Because I'm a guy I shouldn't like a drink because it tastes good? I had a really good strawberry daquiri at Chili's a while ago. I just think of a drink like that as having some dessert with my meal.

I also rarely drink to get drunk. It's just nice to come home sometimes sore and exhausted and have a drink or two. Not enough so that it messes you up at all, but just enough to feel a little buzz.

Hapacheese, thanks for the tip about going to a bar. As weird as it probably sounds, I honestly hadn't thought about that, because several years ago the fine upstanding citizens of my town pressured the only two bars in the area to close. It's a good half an hour to an hours drive to the nearest one.

Schnapps is great, man. I also don't understand the whole girly drink thing... I mean I love something that tastes good. I laugh at people that try to mock me for drinking a margarita or drinking something like schnapps.

Drinking to get drunk... I'll never be able to do that. I need to have a clear enough mind to know what the hell I am doing.

"Oh, I'm Steven and I'm 14 and I'm a big man because I drink Southern Comfort at 14!"

Dude, stop trying to be a big man. You'll get there one day, there's no need to bignote yourself.

I was drinking screwdrivers at 13. It was a stupid thing to be doing at that age, but I've got no problem admitting I was a real idiot back then.

I did! What the hell are you doing drinking at age 14 ya little punk?!
Sorry that's the mom in me yelling at you, since I'm old enough to be your mothe....your old baby sitter! :p

I forgot about schnapps. I love that stuff too, peach with orange juice. I also love goldshlagger(sp?) with hot apple cider in the fall and winter when it starts to get cold.

My mum brought home a bottle of butterscotch schnapps one day, and when there was only a bit taken out of it I started taking a swig or two out of it every night and befeore I knew it there was only about two shots' worth left.

I'm a bad bad boy. :o

Butterscotch Schnapps is delicious. I love pretty much any type, though. Peach is nice, too.

And btw... what's this insane posting in RWPW!? It's bananas!

Yeah, any schnapps is awesome.

I also remember coming off a hot run and finding like 3 bottles of vodka cruisers and a couple Archers spri in the fridge. I drank them down in quick time. Hilarity ensued. Not from drunkenness but from giddiness. :p

Don't look at me, bubbles started it - I'm just following HER lead. :D

Okay... What drinks do you guys think beginners should NEVER drink? I call Everclear. That stuff is damn DANGEROUS. Beginners, if you try drinking this too much without experience, you will die.

And stop pushing my thread down! Augh!

If it's not Scotch I ain't touching it, although I haven't tried enough Irish whiskies to form an opinion. If I'm poor then I usually drink cider or, if I'm desperate, a lager or two but I don't really like the taste.

Vodka I can't see the point of - why bother drinking something that by law can't have any flavour?

And as for mixing bourbon's with soft drink...you dirty heathens :p D-padguy, it's a lot more manly to drink whiskey straight :p

EDIT: Beginners should stay away from brandy. That was my first experience of any kind of spirits and that shit was nasty. I'd advise to pretty much stick to lager and girly drinks (RTDs etc) until you get a feel for it.

Jay

Tequila. Beginners, stay the fuck away from it.

Everclear has gotten me in trouble! That is some nasty stuff! After about two shots of everclear, everyone in my dorm figured out just how happy a drunk I really am. I don't think I've ever run into so many walls or kissed so many guys in one night before in my life! Definitely not one of the finest points :p
I agree, it's not for begginers OR lightweights! If you can't handle your alcohol, stay far away from it! And why does this thread get that stupid country song "alcohol" into my head. I hate that song!

Hah. Whiskey and Everclear are indeed dangerous. I remember many stories about people nearly dying of alcohol poisoning with these two. Especially whiskey, since it is generally more popular.

Shamu, be careful with the Everclear. It makes people bananas. :D

Oh and vodka not tasting like anything... I don't see too much bad in it. It's better than drinking something that tastes absolutely horrendous. Bad tasting liquor can make my stomach twist like a pretzel.

Beginners should stay away from the Bicardi 151. I have always like Yager. The best on it's own, but you can also mix it with Pepsi one, and it will taste mighty fine as well. Also, Waler's rum is the best rum I have ever had. Vanilla flavored is smooth enough for really easy shots
