You know it's only a few years away at most...
In seriousness though, that's pretty cool.

I wonder what exactly those "spasms" were. I can only assume that that it went sentient and attempted to kill all of the humans in the room. Or something.

That damn thing was CREEPY! However, the English dubbing on its voice was off a bit. It was more natural in Japanese.

I saw this robot! Omg, she is so real. Her eye moves, she blinks, her mouth moves, her hands move...everything! not to mention she supposedly speaks Japanese, English, Chinese, and more. And she responds too. We asked her a question, and she can respond intellegently. She can hold actual conversations!
That was one cool robot.

The one at the expo, right? Yeah, I liked the one that was all block-like and climbed over that wall and that laptop. You know, it can restructure its own shape? Fucking cool, from an engineering standpoint.
I was listening to some music on my comp with those shure headphones? And the playlist ended, i didnt put it on repeat, and then there was this INSANE droning sound, a methodical, steady hum buzz and beat, it was SO FUCKING SCARY. I WAS SCARED. I'm thiking, if this is the rastor-scan auditory frequency output (i don't know how else to write it, sorry) of a simple binary logic machine, I really don't want to see hard constant imhuman thought processes of an AI.
However, i am still for the construction of them for more reasons that can be posted here, or rather, for few reasons with intricate reasoning.

This isn't gonna help Japan's declining birth rate...

um...no? she was the one that stood near the entrance. in a booth of her own. wearing green...hat or something. I didn't see any robots climb over walls... although I did went to see the Toyota robot exhibit. Are you talking about those, that can change its shape and stuff? Those are cool. I need one of those... then I won't have to learn to drive and be scared that I'll get into a car accident.
Heh. My friend hated the guide robot because it wouldn't answer him, although I still say he wasn't speaking loud enough.
Didn't see the Toyota exhibit because there was a 3-hour lineup in the sun.

oh, I know! We started off from the wrong side, so by the time we got to the Toyota place, it was already five, and they'd stopped selling reservation tickets. We had to sit for two hours waiting to get in. ugh. Basically we spent a long time at Toyota. We didn't even get to go to Hitachi and other tech shows!
but the Toyota one really WAS worth waiting for. ^_^
Yeah, I know ...
Still, a gondola ride with a friend who is deathly afraid of heights was fun.

hmm is that with the rope, or with the magnets? I really, REALLy liked the magnetic tram. It's so cool experiencing new technology!
The rope. I rode the maglev too though, that was fun. Or are you talking about the driverless one that had one of the green mascots in the driver's seat?

Yeah, the toyota line was so long, I wasn't even gonna go for that. The japanese penchent for lining up for hours is not something I am up for. I hit up some of the smaller expo booths and was perfectly happy. Serves me right for going on a public holiday!
I preferred the crazy water park.

...you don't understand. Toyota > oo x smaller booths!! ^_^
Well.......I guess it's just me. Robots are more exciting to me than the rainforest simulation in... Malasiya booth? One of those.
hanenosuke: I was talking about the tram... from the JR to local train to the tram. We were too cheap to ride the "ecology-friendly" vehicles. I did get a nice sunburn as a souvenir though. >_<

Oh I'm sure it was amazing. But it was not amazing enough (for me) to justify blowing a huge chunk of my day at the expo for one booth. Aside from that a 4 to 5 hour wait in the hot and humid Aichi Summer is not my idea of a good time. The hour plus wait just to get through security cured me of wanting to wait in lines.

Ooh, yeah, I saw videos of those robots... Chobits much?
Actually, I read somewhere that that's where they got the idea...
Japan has a long history of its fascination with robot/robotics- in fact, a year or two ago, there was a celebration for fifty year anniversary of Astro Boy, complete with a lifesize replica that opened its eyes on its birthday.
Not to mention that Japan leads the field of robotics.

I remember the information booth robot at the expo! I thought it cool it could speak in so many languages. I went with a Korean friend and two Japanese friends, so we all tried out the different languages it could speak. I think we got all of them: Chinese, Japanese, Korean and English. :D
It's too bad it couldn't walk (I don't think...) like the one in the article.

The "female" robot was no doubt made "female" because in that form it is viewed as less threatning. (This is also why Honda's Asimo is so short. It's less threatning.)
No doubt, without the latex skin of the female robot, people would be having flashbacks of John Connor.
