It's gross, yeah, but at least in this instance they caught the guy. Although this is kinda the freaky part of it for me:

How do you convince 30 kids, especially those under the age of 10, to let you lick their tongues and perform "other acts" without any of them telling their parents a strange man gave them an "oral exam" at some point? That number really freaks me out.

I'm sorry, I believe I may have misrepresented myself. I'm not saying anything to the effect that I believe all Japanese men (or catholic priests, for that matter) are pedophiles or anything like that. Just that there's a good amount of loli-related crimes that occur over there and it is somewhat of an issue to sat the least.

Now, it's true I don't have 1st person experience in Japan, I just have the news reports I read online like mainichi, bbc, blogs from people over there, and other random sites. So perhaps I'm mistaken about the level of the problem. But from my perspective it is something we hear about a lot.

At least this is better than the other news I heard on TV about how a doctor, in his office, made a middle school girl take off clothes on her lower body and take pictures... supposedly for "further examination". These things are quite common... just that not all of them are reported.

Interestingly, when I first read it in English, I was thinking 'wow'. Then, I looked at the Japanese article, and I thought 'pssht. just another harassment'.

the primary school that i used to go to in japan had a problem with the first grade teacher sitting the girls on his lap and touching the girls down there..
he told the girls to wear skirts as often as possible to show thier femeninity or whateva so that he can touch as many of them as possible...
