I'm a 26 year old male redhead from stockholm, sweden. (though I doubt the stockholmians consider Nynäshamn a part of stockholm).

I work in a gamer store in central stockholm (computers, consoles, handhelds, whatever floats your boat, we've got it).
we're still pretty small... so don't come begging for discounts just yet ;-)

I like to think, write, listen to music, read and watch anime... in that order. ;-)
thanks to previously having worked a year in another larger gaming store-chain... and not having had any real expenses said year, I also own every console that is currently on the market. sans the GBA, which I sold. ;-)
I haven't a clue whether I'll buy the new consoles as they come out... can't afford it at the moment, so the point is moot, no?

aaaanyway... nice to start on a new ball with these forums. though slightly sad to see all the old *great* topics dissapear like that, without warning. *sighs... ponders... shrugs* but such is life. ;-)

My real first name is Brandon. I'm 30 years old and live in Muskegon, MI. I've been divorced for almost 6 years. I love to play soccer, paintball, and a variety of PS2, XBOX, and online PC games. I also enjoy writing poetry / lyrics, reading sci-fi / fantasy books, and enjoying life in the company of friends.

I finished a long stint of part time college in December of 2003 with a degree in history and elementary education endorsement. I currently work as a substitute teacher, Papa John's pizza delivery driver, and as an administrative assistant for an industrial electronics technician business. I am going through some interviewing processes with a few long term teaching jobs in the area which is what I want to do ultimately. I could probably get a teaching job out of state rather easily, but I'm not quite ready to explore that yet. There is a huge demand for teachers in Michigan, but there isn't funding to support the demand. I came across OutpostNine when somebody from another board that I visit posted a link to it late last year. Many many times I have burst out laughing out loud while reading some of the stuff Azrael has editorialized. It has been a pleasure being entertained by him and getting to know some of you.

Hi, I'm new, but technically, everyone is. Ha. Well, I'm 20, am from Houston but go to school in Oklahoma, have been reading the editorials for about six months now, and am a huge fan. I used to be really into video games and anime and all of that, but I have outgrown that a bit. I still enjoy the Japanese culture, but don't feel that I have to be a part of it, though I would love to visit and perhaps do JET one of these days. I look forward to contributing to these boards.

Hey, all.

I usually get mocked for my age, but as everyone else has, I'll post it anyway. I'm thirteen and going into ninth grade, or sannensei for Japan, I suppose. A lot of people mistake me to be older than I am, for the simple fact that unlike most my age, I use grammar and love to discuss politics.

An avid writer, artist, and democrat, I just love being online. Sadly, I have no social life outside of my computer room; but, the internet is the so-called "Gateway to the World", so what do I need to go out and actually see it for? Answer me that one. Though contradicting to the prior statement, I would love to visit Japan. The culture amazes me, I am learning the language, and it would get me away from my brother for a while. ::Rolls eyes.::

Some of my biggest loves in life are anime and manga. Personally, I prefer manga over anime, simply because the book is always better than the movie (or television show, in this case). My favourite series is Inuyasha, though this is akin to the fact that I religiously follow many other series'.

What else is there to say? Hopefully, you'll find out more about me as I go along. =] Sayonara!

PS, I am a GIRL. My name is Jenna.

Hi, I'm Margaret, a 41 year old American patent attorney living in Tokyo. My 16 year old daughter found this site and I just followed along. I found my current job via the Internet (go monster.com!) and never thought I would be working in Japan (for over two years now). I'm not very good at learning Japanese- I was good at languages in my youth but I am afraid my middle-aged brain cannot absorb a non Indo-European language. My daughter is going to boarding school this fall so I am left all alone in Japan (divorced 15 years). Trying to decide whether to stay for a while or go back to the US. I post mainly at work, when things get dull (which is pretty frequent in the world of patent law...). The people here are great, I love Az's editorials and look forward to the brave new world of the new forums...

Male, 23. My name is unimportant. Well, that, and I don't want to tell you.

I live in the US, in an area filled with bigots, rednecks and the otherwise ignorant. Teen pregnancy and incest rates are among the highest in the country. And no, I'm not in the South or some strange Midwestern town.

I am (very slowly) working toward an associate's degree in "Would you like fries with that?" Out of high school I went to a very expensive school for software engineering only to discover that sitting in front of a computer writing code 8-10 hours a day was horrendously boring.

Music is pretty much everything for me. I listen to a very wide range of artists, but I tend to stick with underground/independent bands. In fact, my interest in Japanese culture did not begin with manga/anime or video games, but with the Japanese underground metal scene.

My favorite music tends to be slow, sad, depressing, somber, etc. I am not a goth, but I do like a few early-80's goth bands. I hate emo/screamo/hardcore with a passion. Same goes for ska. If I were to make a (fairly short) list of some of my favorite bands/artists, it would be something like this:

Corrupted
The Gerogerigegege
Joy Division
My Bloody Valentine
Burning Witch
sunn 0)))
Matthew Good Band
Earth
Unsane
Johnny Cash
Anal Cunt
Church of Misery
Agoraphobic Nosebleed
Arvo Pärt
Eyehategod
Sun Kil Moon

Yes, that is an EXTREMELY short list.

I will attempt to play pretty much any instrument I can get my hands on, but my main ones are guitar, bass, some keyboards, effects pedals, shortwave radios, field recordings, feedback, etc. I am currently in a band heavily influenced by Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen, and early Cure, among others. I also have two solo projects: one is noise, and the other is anything else I feel like doing.

I've only been reading manga and watching anime for about a year and a half. For some strange, inexplicable reason, most of my favorites have been of the romantic comedy type (a genre I despise when it comes to American film). I prefer manga over anime. Favorites include Ken Akamatsu's work (even though it is often filled with glaring continuity errors), Ai Yori Aoshi, Azumanga Daioh, Chobits, and Noir. Slowly trying to read and watch more as funds allow, which is not often.

I recently started studying Japanese on my own, and for no previous experience and being totally self-taught, I think I'm doing okay so far. Don't ask me to speak it or translate anything yet, though. I've got a long way to go.

I also enjoy photography, and wish I had the opportunity to do it more often and with higher quality equipment.

I hate my job. I work in a movie theater. Hollywood can't make good movies anymore, and people somehow believe that the theater is their own personal landfill.

When I'm not working or playing music, I'm either sleeping or online researching various bizarre/deviant practices around the world. And yes, I'm being totally serious about that. I'm fascinated by practices considered by the West to be "deviant," and I find the study of their origins and behaviors intriguing. If it's crazy, weird, or just plain fucked-up, I'll find it.

That's all I've got right now.

I've been a lurker on this board for roughly 5 or so months but never posted anything before now. Since this was a new board, I thought I might as well sign up and say hello. Some of you guys make the best posts ever... (and well, we just won't talk about the rest of you, now will we? :p )

I live in Houston, go to college, work, do all that fun stuff and I've got to say that these editorials have got to be one of the best things on the internet, with the school teacher ones being the most informative and funny out there. This brings another side of Japan to us that they don't tell you about.

Well, having said that, I shall now return to the dark rock from which I crawled out under.

Cheers.

My name is Josh, as you might have guessed. I'm 16, 17 in a month. I live in Virginia, and I work on a farm. What else is there to say? Uh, Jiant Flying Panda calls me Cindy. I get into a lot of fights because I don't know when to not make a joke about something stupid that somebody does. I.E. not being able to spell "at" correctly. That's all I can really think of right now.

Hi, I'm Sasha. I live in a 'small' town in Japan where I've been teaching English for ten years. I'm married and my husband is Japanese. I don't do much but work and all the other regular life stuff. Okay, so hi again. Az is my friend from college, and I enjoy reading his editorials because they're so freaking hilarious that I laugh until I'm in tears! (Of course he's every bit as entertaining in real life as well)

Anyway I'm from California, I'm 24, and I have a B.A. in Japanese and an M.A. in teaching ESL. For now I'm still working as a supervisor and trail guide at the riding stable where I've been working for the last ten years, and I intend to go into teaching English in Japan sometime next spring.

I adore horses and voice actors, especially seiyuu, and I watch tons of anime. Some of my current favorite series are Bleach, Monster, Yakitate!! Japan, and Kyou kara Maou! I have lots of other favorites as well but too many to mention. I also love Takarazuka, which is all-female Japanese musical theater; I highly recommend it if you ever get the chance to see it. Nice to meet everyone!

Really funny stuff, and esp. interesting to me because like a lot of people here, I've been learning Japanese for a couple of years. I'm 18 (almost 19), male, and I live in South Florida.

I've read OP9 for ages, long before the original forums got installed, and have thus seen the "fandom" so to speak flourish exponentially over the past few months. It's almost a double-edged sword; Az getting more readers can't ever be bad, but the smaller circles are now infinitely harder to keep up with, and it's quite confusing now =\

I enjoy things that make me happy. Can't put it better than that...

18 year old Texan here.

I have frequented the site for some time now, and am glad to finally join the forum. Az's articles have been a great source of enjoyment for me and some friends of mine.

I enjoy video games such as Final Fantasy, Tekken, Guilty Gear, and others , but with the current shortage of quality games in the market, I am mostly playing the endless source of joy that is Katamari Damacy. When not playing games or being a student (first year of college approaching), I study martial arts, my life-long passion. And yeah, anime is great.

That's basically me. In conclusion, I love sushi.

Hello everyone. I’m Ruaidhri, which is the Irish spelling for Rory. Amazingly, it’s pronounced the same regardless of spelling. I’ve been reading Azrael’s editorials since the beginning of the year and I joined his earlier forum shortly after it began last May.

I’m married and have been for 34 years this coming November. I love my wife more now than I did when I first married her. Why? Because now that I know almost everything about her I must say I like what I got.

I have two sons both of which have posted on the old forum, Redbeard and Anders. My older son is working on his Ph.D. in materials engineering with a minor in physics. He is big into research for new lighter, stronger materials employing nano technology. His work has big military and aeronautic applications. He’s also interested in teaching at the university level. My younger son is working on his BS in political science with a minor in coaching. He plans to get a teaching certificate and teach government in a High School.

Me, I’m retired. I worked very hard for many years working my way up from a 2nd shift clerical position to a middle management job with way too much stress but damn good pay. I’m very comfortable in my retirement actually making more now than when I worked.

I was born before WW2 so I’m not even a baby boomer. I grew up in the 1940’s and 1950’s and have always been interested in politics. I worked in Kennedy’s 1960 campaign and was lucky enough to meet all the family. I even met Eleanor Roosevelt when I went out to lunch one day with her and Eunice Kennedy Schriver, John Kennedy’s sister and now Arnold’s mother-in-law.

I am admittedly long winded. It must go along with my age. I am probably the forums oldest member at 64. For all you younger members the mind stays the same it’s the body that gets messed up. I’ve always said I’m the same person I was when I was 25 only perhaps a little wiser.

Religion? I guess you could call me a Theist, with the “a” separate from the “t”. That’s because I want to believe that we don’t disappear when we die. My God, however, is not associated with any religion practiced by man or woman. My God is a casual observer without formal structure that allows us, including our universe, to determine our own mortal fate. Actually, if you examine America’s history, you’ll discover that many of our founding fathers were Theists. One of the good parts about my God is there is no church or services. There is no Bible or doctrine. There are no leaders only fellow travelers through life.

So, I’m glad to be here on the new Outpostnine forum.

I'm a 16 year old Junior in high school in Plano, Texas. If you watch King of the Hill, that is the EXACT society that I live in. I think they named Arlen after our neighboring town, Allen. Anyways, I'm interested in everything military, flight, WWII, and any combination of these. I also paintball and listen to music whenever I'm not doing any of the above (that and school).
Favorite band is definetely Green Day. I was originally somewhere around the 60th member on the previous boards, I just stopped posting because everyone liked anime and I can't stand it. Now I've learned to tolerate it for short periods so I can post. Anyways, talk to you guys I guess!

Whoa. So now there's a "hapacheese" *and* a "cheese" on these boards?

I guess I can't sign any more posts/PMs as "The Cheese"...

Hey, you can sign 'em "The Cheese" if you want. I'm not gonna scream bloody murder or anything. If you really wanna know where my name came from, one day I picked the name 'TheGreenCheesecake' while playing UT online... kinda stuck w/ it for a few games and everybody called me cheese... But back to your name, its all good. You can still be cheesy too, my good friend.

Puchu, who did some posts under the same nick in the old forum.

Name: Call me Puchu, or Pu.
Gender: female, believe it or not
Age: 17 (birthday 28.02)
Birthplace: Bergen, Norway (which means I'm not Norwegian, I'm Bergensian. yes, we're so full of ourselves)
currently living in: Kaseda, Kagoshima-ken, Kyuushuu, Japan. (only 5 1/2 months left, though. *sniffle*)
Occupation: exchange student at a japanese high school. They didn't tell me that waving to random people you don't really know, having your picture taken with people you don't really know, generally singing on command, trying to say japanese tongue twisters (namamogi namagome namatamago. akapajama, aopajama, pajama) and generally doing anything "cute" also was a part of the job. oh, well. anything to make the girls squeal and jump up and down, and the boys jump out of happyness/scream out their outrage and envy towards their friends who got a second's attention... ^^;

I like to sing, play the guitar, draw and make songs. I have currently made songs in English and French (thanks for the grammar help on Seule au Monde, Nira!), and I'm now working on a song in Japanese (it's sucky, though. the melody sounds like something out of an 80ies anime. maybe if I change the rythm..). Although I have... 4 or 5 other songs to finish completely as well... ^^;

I also love manga, and have managed to buy.... 90 or 100 volumes of manga in the 4 1/2 months I've been living in Japan. how the hell I'm gonna get it all back to Norway is the big question, though... ^^;

I am a twenty year old future student(this means my first trimester starts
in a month) at the Czech Institute of Technology(not common translation).
My nationality is Slovak, ethnicity mix too complex to list. I can
speak English with a bad accent, Slovak passably and awful Czech.
(most educated people in Czech Republic and Slovakia
understand Slovak and Czech respectively. Those languages are
very similar).
I am going to be a software engineer, If I finish, or possibly a combat engineer, if I am going to discover writing software is not really something
I want to do for a living. I am agnostic when it comes
to the supernatural, merely content to claim that I don't give
a flying fuck. God is nowhere to be found, and people live as if
he were non-existent, those most devout especially.
(by God, I mean the Christian/Judaism/Islam supreme deity).

As to my hobbies, I read when I'm bored,I like to play games
any games), run, hike, ride the bike.
My worldview is quite broad, but kind of shallow, as I have
never exhibited enough interest in the past to really excel
in anything. (save perhaps certain computer games and
various exercises in futility). I honestly despise New Age,
and, one might say that I am such a modernist. There is nothing
special about us, we are just complex biological machines with
a penchant for beautiful delusions, and I think anyone who disagrees
is worthy of variable disdain.

I'm a 28 year old asian male and aspiring entrepreneur coming from a banking and financial background. A good friend referred this site to me a couple months ago, and have been following mostly the editorials ever since. I became intrigued, as with many others it would seem, with Az's experiences as I have always wanted to participate in the JET program before.

I've been to Japan a couple of times in the past mostly for pleasure. If I ever return to visit Japan, you will probably find me in Fukuoka, as I dislike Tokyo (farther away I am from it the better), hanging out at Jazz Bars, Livehouses or even the occasional Karaoke bars/booths w/ friends.

I'm old (24), and I'm odd. :) I don't even remember how I found this site, but I'm pretty sure I was linked to it somewhere on IRC.

I forgot to mention that I aspire to apply to JET one of these days, although Im still about 2 years short of a bachelors degree, so hopefully once I go back to school and finish I can apply! :D yay~

I am currently a 20 year old (unemployed) Firefighter/EMT-Basic attending college with hopes of someday getting my hands on an EMT-Paramedic certification.

I possess a modest amount of talent, a number of hobbies, and a chronic case of lazyness.

Welcome Deanna! You don't sound boring. Cooking can be a LOT of fun. Drawing and painting too on different levels. If you managed to so thoroughly enjoy Az's editorials, you certainly can't be too boring compared to some of the stuffy people that harass him about them. And, well the dancing, I mean you almost can't go wrong there, so many possibilities. ;)

Bah, dork! Hehe, somehow I doubt either of them are "innocent" at least not in a street smarts sense. I won't speculate on any other departments. :)Regardless, young (i.e. anything younger than 19) I would not seriously pursue, simply friendly banter / teasing. Even with age appropriate female forum members, that isn't my intention, and I can tell Jay is basically the same way. It's all about entertainment and having fun. There's a difference between fun teasing conversation for entertainment purposes and actually imagining anything serious in those comments, hehe.

I imagine what would happen if i did share though.

I have a video too, dancing even, but it's a very special dance, some call it the Horizontal Tango, heh. However, I imagine the video you referred to was not that kind, and even though some of us may be highly entertained by it, I doubt we'd laugh at you, maybe with you. ;) Either way, no worries. A woman doesn't have to do much of anything to come across teasing though, hehe. Simply stating such a video existed is enough to make the wheels turn. However, as I said, imagination is a wonderful thing, particularly with a smile and eyes as nice as your's.

Well, rather than sleep, I figure I might as well introduce myself.

I'd give you my name, but I'd rather keep posting until one of the few people I know in real life who read this site comes up to me and says, "Hey... is that you?" However, judging from past experiences, you probably wouldn't be able to pronounce my name anyway, so we're all happier like this... right? Right?

I'm an eighteen year old female, about to start my second year at UCSB. I'm a drama major with a minor in Comparative Literature (or, as it is called in the course catalogue, CLIT.) I found this site in early March when my brother sent me a link, due to my fairly recent decision to do JET after college. When I found someone who could not only write well, but was actually funny... after the shock wore off I started visiting the site pretty regularly... like at three in the morning when I should be writing a paper.

Um, I'm a weird girl with weird stories... but you will find out more about this soon.... mwahaha (note: evil laughter must have an odd number of syllables. Good laughter has an even number of syllables. It's true. Try it out.)

Did you catch the threads discussing our resident ghost, Jay? The 54 year old man with crabs inspiration came from recent revelation that a forum member claiming to be a 16 year old girl who liked sex, a lot, is actually a 13 year old boy who has never had sex. That's also the inspiration for the D_pad quote that was in Jay's sig. ;) Click link below for some amusing reading. http://www.outpostnine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=99

Is it Hav-Ee-Lah?

Close... but you're still a failure. A complete and utter failure. ^_^

It's oddly enough pronounced Hah-vul-ah, (Ha as in haughty or hot, vul as in vulgar, and ah as in 'Ah, aren't you glad you know how to pronounce Havilah?') The vil is kind of slurred between a u and an I sound... what can I say. I worked at my old job for a year and a half, and my boss never learned how to pronounce my name, so...

and isn't the internet smiley great? You can say the most horrible things, and people can't get offended. Watch:

Depends on the emphasis I guess. I was pronouncing it by the way it was spelt, so i put the wrong emphasis on the wrong area (thus LAH instead of AH). So yeah, I can see where I went wrong.

Now try and pronounce my name; bet you can't. :p

Hi, new to the boards here. I found these from reading Az's editorials. I study Japanese and spent some time in a high school in Hokkaido so I can relate to a lot of what he writes about. I usually spend a few months a year in Japan, in my friends place in Tokyo or on programs around the country (I.E. Kanazawa, Okayama, etc.), but I live in Boston, MA. Currently a senior in high school.

I'm Laure. I'm 23 years old, and I live in Florida. I found a link to one of the Japanese School Teacher Editorials on a message board, and I've been hooked every since. Az really cracks me up, and I find myself checking back several times a day just to see if he's put anything new on the site. I *just* realized that there was a message board associated with this site, so I thought I'd post and hopefully make a few friends.

Hi

Hi!

My name is Katie.

Strange how so many people seem to use their real names online. I was always taught when I was a kid that if you use your real details, people can steal your identity. Ah well, it's only a name eh?

Im new (obviously).

Yes, that was quite obvious. :p

Im 22 and I live in Canada.

Really? I'm 18 and live in Australia. Wanna marry me? :p (<--- There you go Shamu, happy now?)

I must say I just LOVE reading Az's editorials and I always come back to check for new ones.

Me too.

And don't be put off by his presence, he's not some kinda God. He's actually really cool to talk to.

I am currently getting my BA and I have a TESOL certificate.

What's a BA and TESOL?

Im so happy I found this msg board too!

Yep, you're not the only one. Just watch out for D_pad69, Vocab Jump On It!, h2orowe and Benaire.

If anyone has any questions for me just lemme know! :)

Aye aye, Cap'n!

Nice to meet you all.

Nice to meet you as well.

Wow..for some reason its not letting me post.
I pretty much
said
A B.A is my bachelors degree and I need it to teach english overseas
and Tesol is an esl course
T-teaching E-english (to) S-speakers (of) O-other L-languages.

I hope I did that right.

And I asked why I would be "put off by his presence" What do you mean by presence?

(I like the emphasis on the 'e-' too. Makes it all the more amusing, hehe.)

Age: 36 (37 in November).

Married 6 years in October. Have 2 kids (son-4, daughter-2). Wife turns 29 for the 12th time in January :D

Work for a fortune 500 company doing Network and Infrastructure Delivery with a Messaging and Collaborative tools focus (means I do project and integration work with e-mail, instant messaging, etc).

Former Army Reservist and Veteran of the 1990-1991 Gulf War.

AS in Communication and Media Arts from Community College. Was originally going to get into Public Relations...
BS in Business Management from University of Phoenix (actually a 'satelite' campus in Orland, not online).

Used to play RPG's (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/welcome) fairly heavily in my younger days (about 14-30...and still have all my books and dice), and did volunteer work with the Civil Air Patrol (http://www.cap.gov/about/quick.html) as a cadet and then a senior member...tapered that off when I got into a more career oriented mindset.

Had moved to Orlando to get married (wife was working for Disney). After son was born, wife and I agreed she'd be a work at home mom, and we'd move back up to Western New York...where I'm originally from. Actually, stay at home was her idea and I agreed (just to spoil anyone thinking I made her quit her job...if that was ever in the cards, she would have moved up to Western New York from word go).

Recently, we've gotten into Geocaching (http://www.geocaching.com).

And I really like using parenthesis and elipses :D

...have been mesmerized and disturbed by PopCulturePooka's avatar - the one with the eye...than you for changing it.
...have merely been mesmerized by Benoire's <did I spell that correctly?> and from the former forum the moving avatar where the girl blinks hard and passes her hand in front of her eyes with her fore and middle fingers in a V.

Hello. My name is Marie and I currently live in San Antonio, TX. I'm 22 and work for directory assistance.

A friend kept linking me to this site, and in the midst of looking for a fun new forum to post at, I decided to try this one out.

I think I'm supposed to write something more about myself, but: a) I'm drunk, b) I'm tired from laboring on Labor Day, and c) I can't think of anything else. And on that note, hi everyone! <3

Guess I'll have to introduce myself again with the new message board (took my time, I know^^)

The name is Philip ,16 years old ,from Innsbruck ( Austria) ...this time I won't mention Austria being a beautiful country in the heart of Europe :D

I'm still interested in Japan ...probably more than last time and there's no end in sight
The only thing that changed is that I started learning Japanese 2 months ago ( and started to forget the pathetic amount of French left in my head)

Japan is not the only thing I'm fanatic about , my interest also goes towards sports ( + visiting a school for sports ^^) and especially soccer .

On a side note I'm a big fan of the "Tales of " RPG-series and Japanese RPGs in general ,so , hi everyone :)

I am a 16 year old male from Spiro, Oklahoma. I've been reading Outpost Nine for about a week or two (still trying to find my way around).

I am a junior in high school, and I play football, basketball, and baseball, so I have no time for a job.

Umm...I visit only one other forum, and I've been going there for around 3 years, so I doubt anyone know me from another place.

My interests are: Sports (obviously), sports video games, comedy, rap music (Tech N9ne, Tupac, Nas, T.I.) the internet, and my girlfriend.
