just a question: do we...just talk about stuff here? anything?

(i'm also searching for a thread about the editorials XD )

This is the introduction thread. Introduce yourself if you feel the need to.

(There's no one thread about the editorials. There used to be a whole forum for them, but that got hijacked and turned into an entertainment forum.)

Ahoy there. Finally got round to signing up to these here forums after becoming hooked on Az's editorials. Every last one has managed to make me either laugh or cry, so it was only a matter of time before I'd give this whole forum thing a shot. Anywhoo...

Umm... some form of introduction... Okay. I live in the mystical magical country of England, and go to an equally mystical magical college in order to aquire some form of education. I play more video games than is probably legal or healthy, and watch pretty much any anime I can get my hands on. I've been writing stories since over seven years ago, and I've still yet to finish a single one. Musically, I like rock, and being the self confessed (mild) fanboy of Japan that I am, a fair degree of Jpop. I love all things remotely cute, and I show it more often than most of my friends are comfortable with. I guess my avatar probably speaks volumes about that much...

So, yeah. Nice to meet you all!

Hey, this is my first time posting here, I saw a link to the mating ritual series in Computer Gaming World magazine from some guy who plays WoW (world of warcraft) asked people to help him with his love life in exchange for gold and the best advice he recieved was the mating rituals. I read it and it was actually really good advice and I liked Az's style of writing so I read into his other editorials. The japanese school teacher series is one of the most entertaining things I have read on the internet (kancho = hilarious), considering I'm into japanese culture and what not. I also looked at the pictures Az has posted and noticed he is into Kendo, which is also cool because I am too Well just wanted to voice my appreciation for the site...

(reposted this here now that I know where it belongs...)

Jay

Kancho's not so hilarious these days. It stopped being funny around... oh, June last year. July at latest.

If you can get over the absurdity of the concept behind kancho, and actually grasp what it does, what it signifies, and how it affects the perpetrator and the victim, then you will find it disturbing. EXTREMELY DISTURBING.

Woooooooooooooh.

I'm known for my quick replying. ;) It's a forum, what's the point of waiting half an hour to reply to something that's been written? :)

I'm pretty sure kancho is still funny to the Japanese, but to us old hands on this board, it got really old sometime in the middle of last year.

Yes that's probably true. But haven't you seen Road Trip where Stifler (I don't remember his name in that movie.) gets his ass stabbed by the nurse?

Yes that's probably true. But haven't you seen Road Trip where Stifler (I don't remember his name in that movie.) gets his ass stabbed by the nurse?

I saw the movie, but can't remember that scene (vague memories, perhaps), all I can remember is the cool geeky guy and the huge leapord panties (vaguely reminds me of the time I lost my virginity, but that is for another thread).

Anyway, as for an introduction, I am 24, and I teach (director of performing arts (yay, I love that title, it sounds so cool even if it is bs) at two schools, as forr details I do elementary band, middle school band, middle school chorus, middle school general music, and middle school drama (yes it's a lot, and my days at work tend to run 10 hours at minimum, but it keeps me busy, and it's fun (sorta) but the ED conracts (Extra duty, not Erectile Dysfuntion (you know you were thinking it, you sick bastards) make it worth it) (you know I hate unclosed parentheses). I have never been to Japan, but a good friend of mine went when he was in college (and so, I am thinking, if a short, fat, looks-like-lucifer jewish kid can have a ball in Japan, I am home free).

So yeah, I am stuck in the US (and in Delaware for that matter, if NJ is the armpit of the nation I guess DE is like one of the random ribs that tend to get broken in bar fights?) for at least another year (Christie McAuliffe scholarschip (not sure if that is the correct spelling, but I like it, and that is what matters as this isn't an official document)/grant, what what?) so I am reading up on all I can.

Original plan was to go straight to grad school (University of North Texas or Michigan if you are curious) but then I randomly stepped upon outpost9 (Hard OCP -> GenMay -> OSX86 forums -> OP9) and now I Am thinking, three years in Japan could be fun. I am not so scared of being kancho'd as getting posted somewhere in the Inaka (I have never in my life lived more than half an hour's drive from a major city).

But yeah, that is me, confused, not at home even at home, wanting to wander, wanting to learn, wanting to just.... experience. I have backpacked through Europe (well, at least the cool places), spent 3 months in london studying cathedrals, and driven to Tennesee on a long weekend on a whim, but I just want to see more. I have yet to see experience Asia, and this seems like a great chance... plus it would add to my grad-school fund...

But anyway I am rambling (as usual) so, bye for now.

Oh wow, how could not have seen this before? :duh:

Well I'm Connie or Cara, I like to lurk. Right now I'm in college studying to but things that produce power (and turn people into green glowing mutants when I forget to carry the one :P). I'm midwestern, which seems to be fairly common on this board, but my parents are from Vietnam. My dad was in the ARVN and came over here after the war. I have three older brothers, I love hockey, paintball, lasertag and burgers. I can't stress the burgers part enough! Oh and I play with cars a lot.

Umh stuff people say about me:
Every thinks it is funny that I am Asian but know Krav Maga. I also learned Qwan Ki Do from my dad.

I can't swim, but am going to learn!

I'm right handed but I'm a switch when I use a hockey stick.

I like Az's editorials because they are funny and I think Az should write some books when he gets done with JET!

I'm new here. I'm 15, female, and from the U.S.

I am currently in the proccess of trying to become an exchange student to japan.

I started reading op9 japanease teacher when there were about 6 posts.

My intrests are shopping, video games, flying, and really alot of other stuff I can't think of. Currently I am employed at a youth center where I have to deal with brats my own age thinking that I'll lend them money or give them free food because we are the same age but I really enjoy the job. What else, I am commitment phobic and have only had one seriouse relationship with a musician (never again) which ended on a bad note. I used to model and would like to continue to when I'm 16. Other then that I think I'll aim to get my pilots licence (my granfather owns a privet airport and we own a plane, he owns several). Either that or I would like to be an astronomer. The only famouse person I have ever met was josh heartnet (however you spell his name) at baskin-robbins. Kidding I met him on the set of here on earth becasue my cosin had a role in that movie but I really don't remember because I was alot younger.

Hi Guys and Girls,

well i'm happy to say hello, uhm... yeah.

I'm from Austria (no, not Australia, it's something like "osotoria" in japanese), it's a country which is totally elsewhere than Japan or America,
but i love this site anyway, mostly because i'm very interested in japan since i was 13 or so, i just love this culture, and hearing about the things Az is writing makes me just even more interested in that country ;)

My native language is neither english nor japanese but german, i speak a few words and phrases japanese and i will start studying it at our university soon, but i'm sure pretty much everyone here speaks better japanese than me, which is just awesome

Being that said, i'm looking forward to post here :)

Hey ppl, name is Dili hailing from the infamous Balkans, namely Bulgaria. As the only Eastern European on this board, lets just say not all of us have portable granade launchers under the bed. I just turned 21 and feel old on this teenage board, but, to make it worse, I just finished my first year in uni. It took one year to get to the absolute minimum of Jap level to enter the undergrad course so, yeah, Im a lil behind. Major is Intl Law, languages are Bulgarian, yes, it exists, English, Japanese, intermediate Russian, low-intermediate German. Am an amateur opera singer, write poetry in bulgarian, used to irish-dance now just when neighbours get too loud, and travel, no way around that since it takes a couple of days to get from Japan to home.
How did I get here? koko wa doko, watashi wa dare ;P I liked the editorials and felt like there are other aliens on board. Which is good, just in case anybody is wondering.

Yo. Vincent Logan's a pseudonym that I like to use. Real name's Gary Izquier (iz-kee-err), if you need to know. But I'd rather keep Vincent, for starters.

I'm originally Venezuelan, came here five years ago, and am currently 17 (will be 18 in May). I came here because I heard they have interesting discussions and debates, and I thought I'd give them a shot.

I'm a Salsa teacher, a journalist, and a bastard. I like Japanese culture to a certain extent, and can appreciate it. I'm planning on checking it out when I graduate, in 2007 with a friend of mine (he goes here, he's "Masa the Masta"). I also enjoy philosophy, writing, drawing, debating, videogames (current WoW nerd), and a nice conversation. I guess that sounds cheesy, but for the meantime, it'll do.

ZaichikArky
02-18-2006, 05:29 PM
I thought I would post a lengthy introduction because I've been here for a few days and I like posting here

I was born in Russia and moved to Colorado at age 5. I lived in Colorado, doing normal kids stuff, until I was 10. At that point, I moved to California.

As soon as I moved, the "golden age" of my video gaming began because I was really into my SNES and my Donkey Kong Country games...

I was often made fun of in school because I was never diagnosed as having ADHD, but seriously I suffered with it. And to some degree, I still do today with a mild version of adult ADHD. Many kids made fun of me because I liked to talk to teachers a lot and I was too hyper and inconsiderate, not understanding basical social guidelines. I rarely let this get me down.

In High school, I was still hyper in 9th and 10th grade, but after that, I calmed down and it was rare for people to make fun of me after 10th grade. I would get severe depression in High school because of teenage angst. I was never on ANY meds and I'm proud of it. I'm rather against mental medication in any pill form......

I did badminton in High School and hung out with the social rejects who thought I was very silly and liked me because I could make them laugh. I had a few friends in High School. I went to a very ghetto school where most kids didn't end up going to a university after they graduated. All my friends from that school ended up in the local JC. They're all on their 3rd year at the JC.

I ended up going to UC Santa Cruz and that's where I'm at right now. I like it here, but have no friends here. The closest person I have as a friend is my buddy Sean who I watch a movie with once a week. hehe.

I can't wait to graduate and go to Japan. I went there for a month when I was 15, and ever since then I've been waiting to go back and actually speak with the native Japanese people in Japanese this time. heh.

I've been studying Japanese since I was 15.... I'm 20 now. I can speak okay, but not read or write okay. I'm in Japanese 8 right now. I love studying Japanese very much, although I kind of suck at it.

I love Nintendo, fighting games, some anime(I'm not a huge fan, though...) and just video games in general. I abhor table top gaming, however. Please do not rant about your "character" anywhere near me. if you do this, trust me, I will be quick to say something mean to you. I honestly try to behave, but seriously... uh yeah.

I posted 2 pictures in the picture thread, but also you can take a look at my whole photobucket account because it's open for all to see : ).

http://photobucket.com/albums/v326/MajesticArcanine/ one more treat- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v326/MajesticArcanine/IMG023.jpg . not the best picture of me, but this is BESIDE THE POINT. heh.

On one last note, I LOVE my gba SP and I playit all the time. Currently, I am playing FF IV Advance. Excellent game. I've never played it on the SNES either.

Hi everyone, I came to this site after seeing it mentioned in one of the other forums I visit. I lurked around for awhile reading the editorials before I finally decided to register on the message board, anyway my name is Chris. I'm 22 years old, I live in Ohio and am currently a college student working on getting my degree in Political Science. My hobbies and interests include anime, Japanese culture, cars, video games, world events and history.

Hello everyone,

I've been reading the editorials for a while now and decided to register. I live in the boring state of North Carolina, currently still a student. Yeah, I don't really have much to say here...

Righto. Here goes.

I'm Niff (aka Winston), 15, currently live in New Zealand, and I went to Japan a month ago for three and a half weeks - and it's the best thing I have ever done in my short lifetime. I'll probably write a story thread up sometime. >_>

I have an unhealthy obsession with computers, a ghostly white tan, in my third highschool year of studying Japanese, and have plans to do a student exchange to Japan sometime in the next 2 years - then hopefully JET after university.

Oh, and I have nothing better to do than memorise kanji and useful sayings while browsing forums. So expect to see me here quite a bit. :P

I agree with that statement. The only benefit we have here is not having any Australians living here at all.

Jay
02-27-2006, 04:16 AM
Uh-huh. Ever wonder why?

NZ is full of the Australians that didn't make the cut. They were so dumb we shipped them out to NZ in the middle of the night, so as not to sully our perfect land.

That and Tasmania. :D

Sounds like a good move. Get out while you still can. :D

The only thing that's wrong with NZ is, you breed, and you create the most wonderfully beautiful women in the world.

Can you say Kelly Ngatai (http://www.desktopia.com/ImageFolio3_files/gallery/Female_Models/Other_Models_2/32392.jpg)?

I'm 34 and I'm a bill collector, but I may well be either moments away from finally doing what my college English professor always wanted or I will have to hold off another year because right now I am on Chapter Seven of an unofficial and very unauthorized follow-up to Kill Bill's Volume One and Two. After years and years of not writing anything at all, I saw the Kill Bill Volume One DVD and was inspired to write a book about the aftermath of both Volumes One and Two and I'm now nearly 350 pages DEEP!

Reason why I joined here is because Az's site really helped me get back on track after something I saw really... made me angry, but I decided I had better do some digging before I jumped to conclusions and his editorials and honesty helped me not toss almost a year and a half of work in the trash. So, thanks AZ, even though I'm sure no one needs to tell you, you never know who might read what you've posted and what impact it could have. I've actually found a VERY LARGE professional writing base here in Philadelphia and they were very surprised at how well what I have written is for a... non-writer.

So I guess my teacher was right all those years ago, that I actually have talent, the question is will I will be able to get permission from either Tarantino and/or Miramax to publish it. A lot of die hard Kill Bill fans have told me after reading it that it was NOT a fanfic (which, I knew nothing about until they explained it), anyway, I just wanted to thank you because I came across something called Tokyo Breakfast and a few other things while researching more info for the book and I was... not amused, but fortunately I also stumbled across your site, so Thanks again, okay... I'm done.

Hey! I'm a 3rd year biology student, planning to apply to teach over in Japan next year.

I play Ragnarok on the Sakray server, tho my account just ran out so I won't be playing for a while :(

I sew like a little old lady. Seriously! I just recently made cloaks for myself and my flat mate on my itty bitty sewing machine. As well I can knit and do various other arts and crafts.

I'm a decent web designer, prefering to do things in note pad rather than one of these WYSIWYG design programs.

When I'm home I work with Sparks (Girl Guides for girls ages 4-6), and love my girls to death. Most of the ones from when I was really active are almost teenagers now! Makes me feel old >.>

I love to chat, so if you want any more info on me, or have advice about applying to GEOS, AEON, or JET please pm/email me!

I'd IRC it up if I had the foggiest idea how to use that...

there's an irc link. the irc thread should be either in General Discussion / RWPW.. i'm not quite sure which Random placed it in, but it's fairly easy to follow.

I'm from East Texas. Please don't hold that against me. A friend of mine introduced me to OP9 a couple months ago and I've been reading it off and on and loving it.

That's about it.

just realised I've been posting and I never even introduced myself. *smacks self hard*

So hey! I've been living in the middle of nowhere in Japan for 2 years, I'm English (although becoming more and more Engrish each day). I like it here because Az makes me feel not-so-crazy. Nice to meet you all!

You a Ford hater?

biseibutsu
03-22-2006, 05:08 PM
hate is such a strong word - I prefer to think of it as appreciation of comedy. For the same reasons I'm a fan of Ralf Schumacher. Not because of any driving prowess, but just for the sheer comedy he brings to the racing experience.

More power to Williams though, they rock.

Jay

Friend! Brother! Compatriate!

Ralf's best moment was either Indianapolis or Monte Carlo, both last year. :D

Fernando Alonso is the baddest of the bunch. Only because he's got fast reliable equipment.

My man Kimi has fast equipment but it's not very reliable. :(

Bleh...Toyota's hinting they're going to make a comeback in 2007...

Along with the coming of the new Supra and that Lexus supercar..

Jay
03-22-2006, 05:29 PM
Toyota's been in F1 since... 2002, I believe, when Alan McNish was driving for them.

...2003?

Either way, they're still there, so they don't need to make a comeback.

And GO SUPRA!

hello all, im new - not to op9 (ive been reading this stuff for a long time) - but to the boards. a little heads up - my grammar blows goats unless im trying to make myself sound smart. so... consider this an apology in advance.

anyway, i got 20 yrs (my b-day is 4/21) on me so far. im a college... something studying education and stuff. im a western arts performer as a hobbie/second job/club/slash and also do other random things(ive been teaching myself how to make balloon animals this week).

and this may seem kinda wierd, but i was hoping you all might possibly be capable of helping me with something. y'see, back when i was in the circus, i heard this crazy techno rendition of the theme song from Once Upon a Time in China. I have spent the past 3 and 1/2 years looking for this song, its kinda like my holy grail. my point, is if any of you perhaps knew where i could download that awesome scraps of auditory nectar? and i look forward to contributing to these forums.

Hello all! I registered quite awhile ago when I was bored and made a few posts but for the most part I've been a lurker. I figured since I don't have much else to do, why not join in on the fun now?

My name is Olivia and I'm 17, almost 18. I love to paint and draw and be artistic and stuff. I can't think of anything else to say so if you want to know me, you're going to have to find out for yourself :hat:

CrazyAce86

SANITY, n -- a sweet, ignorant dream of which the masses delude themselves into living; the cult of the sane, also refers to what cult members believe; see REALITY for more information.
