eBaumsWorld.com has done grave things in the past, they've stolen pictures and made money off of it. The site YTMND has decided to do something, they've called upon many of the major sites on the internet to help. They're calling it the Internet World War. OP9 users, step up and help the cause! (Visit http://ytmnd.com )

Ebaumsworld is a well known media site. It gets its content from other sites without crediting them, leading ebaums to make money off of other people's stuff. They did it to the site YTMND last night, and they got mad and they are currently smashing the server with hits.

To add: Ebaums also disallows references to other websites in their forums (such as Fark) and ignores and bans users who ask them to remove their (the users') content.

There's also been a flash made re: Ebaums, which you can find here: http://www.ebaumsworldsucks.com/

There are also various sites popping up around places that allow you to view ebaums without ads, essentially denying ebaums ad revenue.

God, this is the second forum war i've been involved in

The first one was between ffwa.ord and final fantasy online. Final fantasy forums going to war is equally foolish as this, if only on a smaller scale. But its still fun seing their forums get swamped to death

Oh dear... The war better not seep into OP9.

Not that I don't think eBaumsWorld is in the right.

Lol, the first song was from the intro menu music for Battlefield 1,
and now that YTMD or w/e got their forum pwned, they can't even organize anything anymore, unless its its through YTMND's or w/e.

I've been in forum battles before. Quite fun sometimes if they're done in humour; this isn't.

Still, I'm quite with the sentiment of destroy eBaum's World. My old high school had its site banned from their computers on recommendation. Apparently, a good number of schools were doing this. The computer people (some of whom I hung out with) were actually overjoyed at its banning. They waged mini-wars of their own against the site.

There must be some legal way of shutting down the site. Can't they (the sites and/or people who are wronged) file a lawsuit or at least a complaint against them?

It is really best not to bring OP9 in the middle of the mix.

I hate what eBaums does to other sites, but unless they take an OP9 article and don't credit it then we have no right to take OP9 and put it into an idiotic Forum War.

Seriously, when you log off you hit the "real world" and should realize that it is kind of stupid to worry about this crap.

Attacking a forum does nothing.

Actually, if the forum is flooded over enough, the server will crash, costing Ebaum's money to get it back up or upgrade it, if they even bother. It's like a DoS attack.

Having eBaums shut down is 1,000 times better than attacking a forum.

"Oh look the forum is down!"

"Who visits it besides a load of idiots anyway?"

"Oh yeah..."

...why are people trying to bring down their forum by sucking the bandwith when everywhere else, people destory each other's forums by hacking into it?

...not that I support either one. Just curious.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EBaum%27s_World#Controversy I suggest reading Wikipedia's information on the subject over ebaumsworldsucks.com
But they're both basically saying the same thing.
I've always hated Ebaumsworld. It's about the #1 place for High school kids to go for fun, though. Pisses me off.

EDIT: As a side note, if you could get Slashdot to link to ebaums world somehow, it would be the end of the war.

Yes, because 2 wrongs CLEARLY make a right.

And of course, what happens whenever they find out who did it? What happens when ebaumsworld fanboys get wind of what was done from here, and decide to retaliate?

Personally, I can't stand EBW, but I really don't think it's fair to drag Az's property into it. For one thing, if someone set up a bandwidth leecher like posted above, set to Az's site, what would happen?

who would pay for it in the end?

Screw that. Just boycott EBW, or if you must, use that bandwidth leecher, but don't drag op9 into it.

MeneerDijk

I agree with Phyphor. Whatever you think of Ebaum and his ways, dont drag this forum into it.

decswxaqz

What they are doing is wrong but as others have said, don't drag OP9 into it. To be truthful, I don't think it would cause much hassle to ebaums if Az did post an embedded image/link to ebaumsworld on the forum index. OP9 just isn't any where near as big as you think in the global internet scheme.
Of course, you could always put this sort of stuff on your own site, or write a simple script from your home computer. It's not hard.

I agree with everyone else about not getting involved. Do you realize the backlash it would have? We could be the ones in the end who get spammed by other forums. Even if an article from here is put on it, the only one who should take action is Azrael

OP9 should stay out of this.

Let's just watch in peace.

I had no idea... there was such a thing called forum wars and internet wars...

Huh!?

<--- completely lost.

'Tis called the Internets Wars because Ebaumsworld stole stuff from other's people's sites, without giving them credit.

'Tis called the Forum Wars, because Ebaumsworld stole one thing from YTMND, and the owner of YTMND decided to "take action," and got people to raid the Ebaumsworld Forum, doing some really weird stuff. (ironically, no sex was involved.)

Ebaum = Asking Max/YTMND Pwner to cease the madness

Max/Mr. YTMND says to apologize and/or give back the stolen artwork they stole from people on the Internets.

Damn it, mah-stah, now I'm confused. :(

Penny Arcade, when I was a supermod, had banned forum-to-forum wars both within its own boards and to other sites after receiving some complaints about destroying servers.
