Hoo-freaking-ray... Damn things are messed up. And now the soliders are going to be placed in action for a longer amount of time before a rotation occurs.

Just splendid.

Makes me glad I joined the Air Force instead of the Army :D

I knew this was gonna happen seeing as how the Iraqi government has failed to ratify its constitution because of different factions saying they're recieving the short end of the stick. Plus, with the insurgency stronger than when the war began, its beginning to look like Vietnam all over again, however I really hope that someday, Iraq will be standing on its own two feet proplerly defending itself from the insurgency that reigns over the country.

Indeed... I'd love to see the country pick itself up and clean house.

I hope this doesn't turn into Vietnam... It's a possibility if the opposition keeps increasing its power. At least the death toll isn't anywhere near Vietnam's... But I see what you mean, this could get long and ugly.

yeah that's bullshit because one of my best friends from highschool who I don't see much now(but still) is getting shipped there in a month. for 18 months. And even if/when he comes back from that they could always say "oh well fuk you, you have to come back hahaha made you think it was over."

and meanwhile gas is $2.69. damn whores.....

I saw this coming.

Well. At least now I know there will be action once I enlist after college (I'm aiming to be an officer).

I was 2/35 In( Cacti!) of the 25ID( TRopic Lightning). I was based at FB Lagman, next to the city of Qalat. 173rd replaced us. We actually replaced the 10th mountain (222 I think) when we got there.

Since we're going into the whole Iraq subject, here's my opinion: originally I supported the war because of that crappy false intel, and now, however bad the war is going, we can't just leave and make our mistake worse. If they establish a theocracy like Iran, it could come back and bite us real bad. What really pisses me off is that Bush has acted like nothing has gone wrong at all. Even Blair admitted mistakes. Nevertheless, I don't think this should be compared to Vietnam. Even though Vietnam lasted longer (as of yet), we have taken "only" around 1,600 dead I think about. Vietnam had over 50,000 dead. Anyways, hopefully by the time I enter the service after college (2011-ish) this war will be wrapping up.

I wouldn't worry too much. Reinstating the draft is a rather foolish way to commit political suicide and I would hope that the lessons from Vietnam are still remembered (especially considering the number of books written on the subject.)

I'm not even sure if you can still get prosecuted for failing to register with the Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. The penalty is supposed to be up to five years in jail or a fine of up to 250,000 dollars I think, but when was the last time someone got prosecuted for failing to register?

And this in itself proves we didn't go to Iraq for oil. Law of Economics: Supply goes up, price goes down. Supply goes down, price goes up. Demand goes up, price goes up. Demand goes down, price goes down. They need to tap the Alaskan oil that is stockpiled / untapped and bring prices down. I can't wait until I can get a hybrid hydrogen / electric / gas vehicle that gets 250 mpg.

Anyway, regarding Iraq in general. I don't care what the reasons we went there were. I'm glad we went for my own personal support of humanitarian reasons. It'll never happen, but I wish we actually did more around the world to support the removal of leaders like Saddam. I know our own government is corrupted in a lot of areas, but ya work with what ya got. Only place I'd possibly rather live is the Caribbean. :D

And now the Republicans are scrambling because Bush has pretty much fucked them for the 2006 and 2008 elections

I don't know if I'd say the Bush messed things up for the GOP in '08. McCain is the guy I'd vote for. My brother was in the 3rd ID, and was going through medical discharge as his unit was being shipped out. He maid the flag holder for the first person from his unit killed. He wishes each day that he had been there for his friends, they were so like family. My ship date is the end of Sept for basic, and after I get done with AIT (Im gonna be a comabt medic) I am getting my ass to Kabul. 10% the casualties? Get me away from the sand-box

"I don't know where he's going to get these troops," Hagel said. "There won't be any National Guard left ... no Army Reserve left ... there is no way America is going to have 100,000 troops in Iraq, nor should it, in four years."

Hagel added: "It would bog us down, it would further destabilize the Middle East, it would give Iran more influence, it would hurt Israel, it would put our allies over there in Saudi Arabia and Jordan in a terrible position. It won't be four years. We need to be out."

That's all we would really need to hear, but I can't see Bush or his shit cabinet turning an ear from someone who's even seen a battlefield. Cripes.

EDIT: McCain is from AZ; I'm really surprised our state could churn out a guy like him. He's kind of swell, I think; but I can't make any real judgements until I do some research/see him run office.

I think probably it was the whole POW thing. I really respect McCain because I think he goes on tangents from the GOP based upon what he feels is right, not what the party wants. I think he has the best idea of war than most anybody esle who would run. He's got my vote.
