I am getting another tattoo

These are my boys names in Japanese...
　　　　　（NIKO)　　　（ISSEY)
katakana: ニコ　 　　イッセイ
Hiragana にこ　　　　いっせい
kanji 日光　　　　　一成

On my left arm i have a tattoo with a panther crawling down a small yin yang sign on the right and my name in cantonese...

Most likely will get one of the nice suns around there names....

I am leaning towards Kanji what do you all think...

Thanks... I am also getting a dragon similar to this holding a flower vine with a heart in the middle with my wifes name in Kanji 祥子 This will go over my left breast and the tail will reach around to my back...

I guess there will be no spring baths for me in Japan

i am usually anti kanji tattoos, but your children's names are a pretty good idea, plus they look sweet.

I have to agree that the calligraphy isn't that great...it is a sweet idea but I think you would've been better off with katakana...hmm...

Putting your wife's name is a bad idea in my opinion...at least you have your sons forever but you never know about significant others...the dragon sounds nice though.

I wanted liked katakana hiragana then kanji but my wife said kanji was a better way to go...

Yakuza here I come...

I am reconsidering the dragon only because of the damn color is going to hurt like hell! I also told my wife I am thinking about her name though... But if any thing happens between us I know I will not marry another Japanese woman for sure! So I can make up the kanji to be anything I like :)

omg....this...reminded me of this story

会話が言語の話題になった際、彼は「最近は日本語もしくは中国語と思われる漢字tattooをしている女の 子が多い。それも背中からお尻の上辺りにだよっ」って言い出したのです。
へ～、そうなんだぁ、と思いながら、一ついじわるな質問をしてみた。「なんでそんな事知ってんの？どーやっ て見たの？」
ってね。
その途端、ニヤニヤ笑っただけだったから（笑）、このエロ親父！！！って思ったんだけど、勘違いするなとの ジェスチャー！をしながら、こう続けた。
「実は、お店がカレッジの近くにあるので、バイトで多くの女の子が働いてて、その子達に聞いたんだよ」って 。
はいはい。信じましょう（笑）って感じにリアクションしたら、奴はその日お店に出ていた可愛らしい女の子が 3人バイトを呼びつけ、tattoを入れているという一人の子にこう言った。
「彼（俺）に君のクールなtattooを見せてあげてよ。漢字の意味を教えてくれるよ」って！ 。
まったく、上手い事言うもんだと思わず納得(^^)
でもって彼女達の1人が惜しげも無く、腰のtattooを見せてくれた時に絶句！！
そこには、、”押忍”の2文字がぁ～！！
おいおいおい！英語で何て言うかなんて知らないよぉ～、、っていうか、無いだろ～そんな英語、 、。
って感じで、結局なんか色々説明したけど、たぶん訳分からなかったと思う。。
もっと、まともな漢字を彫ってくれよ～って感じ。
とても面白い経験でした。

The most incredible tattoo I've seen on a foreigner here was on a guy who had it done by an actual yakuza tattooist. He did it with the good ol' fashioned non-automatic-needle, and it covers his shoulder and upper arm. Absolutely incredible looking Japanese style tattoo, but most certainly yakuza-esque (as that is what the guy does).

Kanji tattoos, however, drive me nuts. Too much open space and whatnot.
