person a: "i don't agree with your opinion! i hate you, and i hate everything you do!"
person b: "blah blah blah, common courtesy, blah blah blah respect on the internet."
person c: "OMG!!!11fourteen!!! BRND!!!!"
Lately, on OP9, I’ve been seeing a large amount of complaints. It kind of seems ridiculous to me. For the most part, it’s over completely frivolous things, such as Roxie having pink font. I have no problem with it, unless I’m at school, where the monitors are whack. Even then, I simply change the background to black, and it’s all good. I suffer no inconvenience, and although I haven’t checked, I’m fairly certain I’m not dead from it.
Also, there was a matter of Meener being “arbitral.” I know, from experience as a moderator, that it is a quick way to become unpopular. It seems to me that some people don’t like it when a moderator politely closes down a conversation that was clearly in the wrong area. Although moderators are wise (cough*cheap flattery*cough) there decisions aren’t always correct. If you were to point out one of these mistakes, then the “respectful” thing to do would be to PM that moderator and tell them, not go on a miniature rant.
There are several other people that have huge problems with other members at OP9. In fact, I am hoping to make a few enemies myself, just so I know who to go to when I need to upset someone. However, I find the whole “personal vendetta” thing a little tired.
I also recognize that this thread doesn’t affect a lot of people in OP9. I also, also recognize that it doesn’t even affect more than a handful of people in OP9. I just find it ridiculous at the blatant disregard for people that is apparent on this site.
As a follow-up: I am not blaming anyone. I do not find anyone particularly offensive (yet). The events which I have used as examples are simply examples, nothing more, and I do not wish to discuss them in this thread. The vast majority of this site is fairly civilized. Moderators, although sometimes irritating, are officers nonetheless. And, as the Human Torch would say, “Flame On”
Although moderators are wise (cough*cheap flattery*cough) there decisions aren’t always correct.

However, I find the whole “personal vendetta” thing a little tired.
This should be repeated. Many times. Make it a mantra.

How about complaining about the people complaining at the complainers?
;)
I do agree, though. While the pink font does annoy me to no end (and I use the black skin), I respect her opinion of using that font, otherwise it would not have been a forum feature. I do however understand the people complaining about it, but it's simply a matter of not reading Roxie's posts. The same people that commented in it mostly unanimously agreed that Roxie's posts are not worth reading, anyway.
Personally, I can read Roxie's posts just fine but that's also because I like the black skin more (I've chosen a black background for most of the forums I read because it's easier on the eyes than staring at a white screen. Think about it: your monitor is not a piece of paper, no matter how hard you try to make it one), but the colour of the font seems kind of attention-whorish to me, but I'm sure she does not mean it that way.
^Only if you send the mods cash.

Well, if you complain about me complaining about the complainers, then I'll have to complain about you complaining about me complaining about the complainers.

Ah no. It's beacuse I tend to use pink type in all things except school work. Just something I do. Plus, I like it

Still, you bring a good point. Roxie's font doesn't bother me, mostly because its just a different color, and that's all. And as far as I can tell, Roxie has been doin the pink thing for a while, for no reason other than she likes it. That's not what bothers me. What bothers me is that Roxie attempted to have a conversation, and all it ever turns to is a "Roxie's font makes me go stupid" fest, which is frustrating for me, and even more-so for Roxie.

First, I like Roxie and I like her font. It’s individual and it screams in its silence. If anybody has a problem reading what she wrote all they need do is to use their mouse to highlight her message. The text becomes white on a dark background and is very easy to read.
I’ve told this story a number of times but I’m going to tell it again. I used to have a boss that would sit quietly when we met with executives from another company. He let us do most of the talking and just listened. Then, when he did speak it was slightly above a whisper. Everyone leaned forward in their seats to hear what he was saying. Every word was important. I found this to be a very effective tactic as this boss usually got more out the people on the other side of the table. When I see Roxie’s pink font, I think of that boss and smile at his way of getting everybody to pay attention to what he said.

Ruaidhri, don't get me wrong - but don't you think that if that boss was not a boss but a random freshly hired greenhorn, that he would be given just as much attention? I think he would probably be ignored. Same with Roxie. Some if not most of her posts are really worth reading - but are they worth the hassle to know if they are or not? I think that is what some of the users that are having problem are actually trying to say. They do want to know what she brings into the discussion - but don't regard her as important enough to be any hassle. And while the hint of highlighting a text is certainly a good idea - some people have their highlighting in another colour, for example Pierrot le Fou who has it in yellow.
I'm not defending nor attacking those complaining, as I myself can read Roxie's posts just fine. I'm just trying to compile all the complains into a nutshell, for those who do not feel like wading through 2 or 3 pages of flames.

...... Thank you ruaidhri, you get today's "completely missed the point" award.
You know what he said. ^_^
Okay, to be honest, I liked that story about your boss. I just didn't feel like it needed to be repeated in your quote. What I was trying to say rudely, I feel I should say nicely. I'm complaining about how there is too much complaining. Not about Roxie's font. In fact, I even pointed it out that I'm not talking about Roxie's font. So, I felt it was somewhat irrelevant to continue talking about something that doesn't involve the topic, and I attempted to end it rudely.
My bad.

That's interesting, and somewhat amusing, but it is completely irrelevant to what is even remotely being said.
Or it could be a little naive of you to cite a specific example and not expect that example to be discussed, even if you expressly state that the examples are just that and not an actual laying of blame.
Seriously, for someone who is trying to complain about the pettiness around here, you don't exactly opt for the high road.

Well, I mentioned before that I personally don't care about gaining any "enemies" but I ceartinly am not harsh... okay, maybe a little. However, not feeling the need to repeat myself for a third time, I assumed sarcasm would work just as well. And yes, he does make a valid point... so I shall edit my previous post.

We do need one. No, no my fine feathered friend, I was completely and utterly serious when I put hypocrisy in my title. I knew that I was going to be one, so I didn't want anyone to point it out before I did.

i agree with this thread...sometimes the vendetas are funny, but the ones that are suppoesed to be serius are just plain stupid. and if people feel like they need to fight over something through this forum, pm's exist for that
If you want vendetta, make yourself a thread named "I hate myself and want to die". And call everyone who responds as asshats.
Wait, that's what I did few weeks ago. And I didn't have vendetta on my mind. I have enough enemies in real life as it is.

I think all the complaining about Roxie's pink type is just an effort to make her conform to the standards that people are comfortable with.
It's too much to ask that everyone get along and not flame one another. That doesn't happen off the internet so why would we expect more when able to hide behind anonymous identities? The problem is, people don't grow up until they retire and by then they're too old to care about posting on web forums. Maturity out the window.

I don't care that Roxie types in pink simply b/c I don't read it. I see pink, or any annoying type/format/grammar for that matter, and just scroll past it.

heh, it's Roxie's choise, whether or not she wants to be understood. Or she could just not care. I think what I say expresses myself better than any formatting or av could. Not knocking avs, I just don't care for them.

^Avatars are just fun and make it easy to scroll down a page to read the opinions of people who you usually find interesting....or to avoid people.
Examples would be PLF's Nemo avatar or Az's Matrix avatar & now I can jsut find Ruaidhri's pic. instead of doing ctrl + f.

I just highlight the letters to read them on my white background. They turn blue. KISS principle.

Dude, I think you are giving people way too much credit. This is hardly some conformity issue, just a bunch of people going "Ah! My eyes!" and shaking their fists like an elderly man whose garden has just been trampled by the local mischief makers.

Roxie's pink text is something I've come to completely associate with her, like, if it's not pink... it's not Roxie. It suits her. She needs its!
Anyway, people, chill out, I don't mind if people whine, I do it alot, but don't be dicks to other people on the boards -.- play nice chillin'.

Re mods: Amstikater it's been my experience around that raps that going to mods privately sometimes results in nothing more than a dismissive reply.
Making something public, asking something that everyone, including all mods can answer, makes a mod/poster more accountable for their actions.
Okay, Roxie changed her font at my request and here is why I requested it.
It does, quite literally, cause me severe eye strain and triggers a migraine. So for all of you bitching about how people are whining that it hurts their eyes and saying it isn't true, please come visit me. I'll pound a spike into the side of your head and see how much you like it. Oh yeah, You get to drink some ipecac too so that you throw up.
Why do I stay with a black text on white background? Because it is the most legible and clear pattern. How do I know this? It's my job. Part of my job is to ensure that all published documents, both online and in print, meet standards of accessiblity for the disabled. Websites, for example, have to meet compliance for the visually and hearing disabled. What colors are bad? Shades of blue/green and red. And for those not paying attention, pink is a shade of red. Blue/green is the most common color blindness and red is also somewhat common. Dark backgrounds with light text are harder to read. It is difficult to get a clear font without bolding everything and contrast is often lacking. Light fonts on dark backgrounds are very difficult to focus on a monitor. The dark tends to bleed into the lighter text.
All I asked was even a slightly darker color. She volunteered the purple, which is far more legible. Individuality is wonderful, but there is a lot to be said for showing a little consideration for others as well, which Roxie has kindly done.
So, please let that be the end of the discussion for that one. Get off her back and off the backs of the people who requested the change. It's done. It's over with. Move on.
As for going to the mods privately, you are much more likely to get a response from me that way than if you immediately jump to posting a whiny post about whomever. I've little patience for melodrama and pettiness. If there's a problem, I'd much prefer to deal with it quietly and allow all involved to maintain some dignity. All the other mods here tend to be the same way.

Roxie's constant "no, this does NOT affect you in this way", her certainty that what she does doesn't cause you any discomfort, AND her saying that if you don't like what she's doing, change because she's not going to - these are things that severly annoy me as well. And I'm not even gonna TRY and talk to her about it; I'll just get abused for my troubles.
