Ok so I was wondering if you had a completly customized sword what would it look like? If you can draw it I'd love to see.
I drew mine cause I suck at describing things.

I'd want this one.

Replica of the sword general Maximus wielded in the movie "The Gladiator." Instead of "Gladiator" I want it to say either "SPQR" or "Michael".
Or this one.

Drizzt Do'urden was around long before Baldur's Gate, He First appeared in the Icewind Dale trilogy (a good read, but starts off alittle Tolkien-esque), R.A. Salvatore's first books.
Anyways, nice attempt D_pad, certainly a creative design, abit to square though, no real curves to speak of.
I wish I had a scanner so I could post some of my sword/ weapon designs, ah well, someday.

Interesting. The only time I've ever seen or read of Drizt was while playing BG with my friend. Thanks for the info.

Well, it's a complicated, multi-step process. First, find your place on the hierarchy of nerd-dom.
Apparently, according to the nerd/geek chart of hierarchy, I exist on 4 different planes of nerd/geek existance.

Ok, so now that this thread has officially been hijacked.
I find myself on the 3rd level as a anime fan who dosn't care about subtitles, video gamer who will play DnD if free alcohol is provided, and a fan of SciFi TV.
[Edit]
Though I must say...the levels near the bottom are slightly disturbing...

I'm debating whether or not I count at the top level. I mean, I've written the scripts for fantasy/sci-fi video games... Does that count?

Do they include furries? And Furry erotica?
Off on a slight tangent. I first found out about "Furrys" from watching a CSI Ep. And thought i was just something the director just made up. But then I find it out its real...seriously...WTF?
hapacheese

Yeah. Furries = the devil's minions. Used to have a coworker that was borderline furry (he had pictures of anthropomorphic foxes all over his cube). Man, that was scary stuff.

Back on the swords topic :p
I like Katanas and Wakizashis. They're considered near the very top of all the world's swords. Even in the LOTR the elvish swords which were supposed to be the best in Middle Earth were base closely on the designs of the katana. I have a small collection of 6 katanas right now, looking to add more.

It's debatable, really. A good quality katana is sharp as hell, but would do nothing to a fully armored opponent. They were specifically designed to cut through softer armor, and due to the forging process, are actually quite brittle (due to the low amount of impurities).
But dayumn, they are sharp. I've seen a guy cut the cardboard tube from a roll of toilet paper in half, while it was sitting on top of a pedestal with nothing holding it in place. *That* is sharp.

From everything I read on them, the Japanese steel of the time was quite good. The reason there is a hamon on the blade is from the tempering they did, and they folded the steel hundreds sometimes thousands of times to get out the impurities. The steel they used was supposed to be quite hard BECAUSE of the forging process (again this is from all of the swordsmithing books I've read). Most of the people whom I've heard speak on the subject all say that the swords created in the heyday of the katana and waki's were very well contructed. According to one of my favorite books on the subject, the military was fed up with swords breaking on the armour of the enemy and so they took the blades that DIDN'T break and studied them to find out what made them stronger. The result is supposed to be the classic tachi, katana, and wakizashi.

I'm suppose to get a thousand fold katana with the family name and crest engraved in the blade from my cousin.
I sure would like to know where he gets his weapons from >.> *cough*yakuza*cough*

Yes, it is very pure steel, but removing impurities from steel is what makes it hard, i.e. brittle.
If you strike an armored opponent with a properly forged katana without the proper skill, you will likely snap the blade.

I've seen a video of a .50BMG being fired at a katana on the blade.... the blade snapped after 7 hits, but it was slicing the bullets (and .50BMG is HUGE) in two. Pretty neat stuff.

Looks like the so-called ninja blades. Never used one, so I can't comment.
For me... I just would want a katana that had a lot of effort put into making it. It's the saya and the other thinks like menuki I would be more concerned with. One thing I know is I'd like the saya or maybe even just the silk cover to have sakura blossoms drifting in the wind. The wind and the leaf aspect of martial arts is the very foundation of my training as I prefer to be elusive and confusing rather than outright vicious. So sakura blossoms and maybe a moon somewhere... I like the night.
I always liked tiger and dragon menuki... and the tsuba... I'd like maybe a moon or a bird or something.
