I went to the TSO Concert Friday night.

WOW!!!

That was an awesome concert. TSO took the stage at around 8:10 and finished around 10:45. They played through Christmas Eve and Other Stories plus a few other songs from their other albums during the first half of the show. Midway through the show, they stopped for about 10 minutes to introduce everybody and talk to the audience a bit. The second half included a number of their other Christmas songs plus stuff from Beethoven's Last Night, the new album they are working on and a few other songs.

The light show was spectacular. There were a few times when it was blinding, but other than that was very entertaining with lasers, lots of flashing lights, different colored flamethrowers, and fireworks. There was an extended drum solo that was amazing plus during one song, a couple of the guitarists ran out to a ministage in the middle of the stadium and were lifted up about 25 feet above the crowd for a couple of minutes before running back to the main stage. The group had a lot of energy and put on a great show. I kind of wish I could see them on Christmas Eve because that would be something.

The only slight negative was that the girl who sat in front of me behaved like she was at a typical rock concert for the first 40 minutes of the show - flailing her arms around right in front of my face at times and making it a bit difficult to see. She was the only one near me doing that and it was a bit distracting. Coincidently enough, after I happened to make a comment to the guy sitting next to me about how I wished I had a nice big roll of duct tape, she stopped flailing around and just enjoyed the show. There were still plenty of times to stand up and scream or cheer.

All in all, well worth checking out if you like TSO at all. A very loud and fun show.

If you haven't heard of the group before, they started as an offshoot of the heavy metal band Savatage back in the mid90s. They mostly play Christmas music and use a full orchestra along with a full rock band and they are fantastic. I have all 3 of their Christmas cds plus their non-holiday cd, Beethoven's Last Night.

I saw them in St. Paul last year and i'll be seeing them again this year in Milwaukee. It is quite a show isn't it.

Yes it is. From what I've read, they try to improve it every year too. They plan on retiring the current rock opera after next year and will switch to doing The Lost Christmas Eve as their opening set.

Oh sweet, they're in town this next Saturday. Now to see if I can sucker my parents into a 'family outing'

Good luck. I'm sure you'll enjoy it if you get the chance to go. I took my mom as a Christmas present and she enjoyed it. She recognized all of the music since it all comes from classical and christmas sources. She thought it was a bit loud :D but that didn't bother her too much.

Wow Kurt it sounds like you had an awesome time! I would love to go see TSO sometime, they sound amazing. I love seeing concerts that are more than just music--like the light show that TSO had. I'm glad you had fun!!

TSO is excellent, I found out about them because they always work with one of my favorite bands, Savatage. I haven't gotten to see TSO live yet unfortunately

The only song I know by Savatage is Commissar, unfortunetly.

Fortunetly, my parents thought it was a great idea. Free tickets for me.

I went to the TSO Concert Friday night.

You lucky, lucky bastard! I've got all their CD's, but they never seem to want to fly out here to play in Sydney. I'd go for sure.

It sure would take a lot of work to get all their equipment there. They added two trucks worth of equipment just this year for all the flamethrowers, lights, etc. Email them, though. You never know, they might decide to add an international component some time.

Wow, just wow. A man in Mason, Ohio has put up this Christmas light display. Set to the tune of TSOs Wizards of Winter. It took him 3 months and $10,000 to set it up. So the music doesn't bother the neighbors it is broadcast directly to passing cars on a low power FM transmitter.
