How should I live? My society, or surely western education system doesn't teach me the most basic thing; "How should I live?" Then how should relationships with others be like? Do I have to take responsibility for somebody? From the view of the History Books I read at the university , no state exists where one person possesses another. People get married and have children for the sake of study, but this basic point is misunderstood .above heaven, below heaven, I am alone. How about you?

Society doesnt tell you how to live because it cant really tell you how to live. It can give you examples about how other people live and maybe you could choose to model yourself after them but each person is different with different pasts different preferences and different thoughts. You gotta forge your own path.

Yeah, pretty much. =/ It's almost entirely up to you to decide how you wish to live your life, but you have some excellent examples to guide you as you go through life. You see good people and bad people, and decide if what they're doing is good or bad. Whatever you see, you judge for yourself, and fit it into a neatly organized cabinet of your own impressions of the world. It's up to you to make of those files what you will.

If society was to tell anyone how to live their lives theyd just say "conform, conform, and conform again" and we'd have no progress. It takes the person to decide, "well maybe if I just tweak this a bit..." to move forward. Thats why society cant tell you how you should live. Just observe the world, pick and choose what you do and dont like and follow your own path.

This reminds me of that one line from Donnie Darko: everybody dies alone.
Yep.

How can you say western society doesn't tell you how to live? Do you never watch TV? It's like every ad you see tells you exactally how you should live. You should spend, spend, and spend some more, look like this, talk that that, and think this way. I think society does too much in trying to tell ppl how they should live. It just shows you how good they are at doing it that more ppl don't notice it.

It's not what they do that matters, it's what you do. Just because someone is selling, doesn't mean you gotta buy!
Edit: I do agree that society preaches too much conformity, and that it is a tradgedy so few people realize how influenced they are. I don't think it matters much in the long run though, those easily influenced would have been unlikely to be original thinkers anyway. Mediocrity exists as a support mechanism. It's only the edge of a sword that cuts.

The answer to that question will be determined by your worldview/religion.

Well society certaintly has an affect on me... I'm in college now.
I try to live however I wish, but it's hard to escape cultural norms. Especially when they have been accepted for such a large portion of life.

Don't listen to them, just try and be exactly like me.
In seriousness, they pretty much have it covered. Your kind of expected to just pick it up as you go along.
