View Full Version : Is anyone else having these problems?

I'm having a number of difficulties, and I find it suspicious that these problems are all happening at the same time...

1. I get a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" on hotmail.com

2. I get a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" after signing into yahoo.com

3. I get an error message when I sign into MSN Messenger

4. An "unknown error" occurs when I try to sign onto AIM.

I've already checked all my firewalls and such, and nothing seems to help. I was wondering if anyone else was having these problems. If it's just me, what can I do about it?

Potentially just your internet. Try rebooting your router or modem, try restarting your machine and try ringing your ISP (the people you pay for for internet) and ask them if anything's up.

When did this start?

It started this morning. Everything was working just fine yesterday. And it's weird that I can visit any other site without problems....

Could be security. Specifically, HTTPS layer in windows. I've seen the same kinda thing happen before.

Try to load any secure website (starts with https://) or login to amazon or paypal or something, and see if it's still blocked. If it is, I know what caused it last time I saw this, but it may be different for you.

I am having the same problem and haven't been able to get it to work no matter what I've tried.

Odd.

Guys, if it *is* the security stuff, it's an easy fix.
(under XP at least, possibly others: )
Click start, run, type in "msconfig" (without the ") and press enter.
A window opens, click the Services tab, scroll down until you see "HTTP SSL" and make sure the tickbox next to it is enabled.
Then, click OK and tell it you'll reboot later.
Go to control panel, Admisistrive Tools, click Services. In that window, find HTTP SSL again and click it. Hopefully the text at the left hand side of the window will say it's started, but if not click the start button.
Once it's running, reboot your computer and try to load a secure website again, that should hopefully work.

If not, post again.

If it's not the security that's the problem, chances are good it's just your internet. Do you have another computer you could try going online with?

Okay then, I have a similar problem. I can't access one site for at least one month with all the computers in my house. Can I do anything about it? Well, if it helps, I'm behind a router.

edit: The site is not down, other people can go to that site perfectly fine. Oh, it's not Yahoo, MSN, those mention above. Maybe it's my ISP.

I've been getting the same problems as well, when I try to sign in on my hotmail I get the page not found error a few times until it sorts itself out, and also the same sometimes on Yahoo, I think it may just be down to the server load on MSN and Yahoo.

Looks like multiple people are getting errors going on hotmail, ya. Probably them.
Other pages may indeed be your ISP or your connection to the internet in general.

I have the same problem, but only for msn. Couldn't connect in days, and I can't find why... =_=;

Stupid question, but did you delete all of the cashe and cookies? Sometimes it's the little things that you don't even consider.

Its either another one of Microsoft's server problems or its a problem between your ISP and the hosts.
I use to have a problem with my IP address though, with an IP of 65.*** etc, I couldn't visit many websites, so I had to reset my modem and router to have an alternate IP. As long as it wasn't 65.*** it was fine.

if you have a fairly cheap modem like mine, it could be a port problem. I have absolutely no idea why this is, as according to everything I've learnt about networking and TCP/IP, this should be an impossibility, but quite often I'll find that everything works barring http:// addresses - i.e. there is nothing wrong with the sites, or my computer, simply I can't recieve anything on port 80. Rebooting the modem solves it. So it might be something to do with port 443 (I think that's the https port)

Well, I give up. If other people are having the same problems, maybe it's not just me. I just think it's weird that AOL, MSN, and Yahoo would all go down at the same time...

I'm not having a problem with any of that stuff. I don't think it has anything to do with Microsoft either. If it was, I would hear my dad complaing he can't get his work done since he does work for the company after all.

Maybe the internet's just under heavy load right now.

I managed to resolve my AIM problem. It turns out I had to adjust my connection settings. Now if only I knew what to do about my MSN Messenger problem, as well as my hotmail and yahoo...

Fujin had a boat-load of trouble with his ISP. Now he doesn't suffer from IRC drop-out, for every sentence he punches in. Before you check with your service, you might want run some field tests with your eqiupment. In personal experience, internal settings didn't have anywhere near the impact of my connection, as the machinery used to operate it.

If you know anyone else with similar equipment, check the basics;

-modem (as nothing stated)
-router
-diff. computer

If the computer is the problem, then yes, it's internal. If all don't seem to work well, then by all means, call/switch ISPs. Beware about the people you call in, though; most of them don't know jack about internal problems. In fact, the man who installed the service in my home was miles behind me in configuring the software, alone.

Note that the guy was from COX.
