If you guys don't know what it is, it's basically a First-person-shooter game, only better! It got swords, machine guns, matrix-esque fighting style, almost everything that could even make Advent Children put to shame!

Little problem is, it sometimes have a Server Down-time a couple of times here and there. :(

By the way, my character's name is "Type-00," at Level 5, so if there are anyone else here in the Forum who plays Gunz, add me if you want.

Yeah, I know what you mean.. The first night I started playing it around 10:30, I played it until 4:30 in the morning. :D

The next night, I played for 5 more hours or so, now I'm up at Level 6. :D

u get better equipment and u get to play other higher levels

as u get into the later rooms u unlock more levels, eg ruins - castle etc
thats about it atm

btw the servers have a lot of downtime atm as they are moving out of beta, they working a lot atm

I've played this game over summer and well it wasn't my type. First off, I didn't like the graphics of it. Games with poor graphics are a NO NO to me and well yeah. It turn me off. Then as I tried out bits and parts, I didn't like the game play. In the end. It was worth a try because not all games are going to be your favorites. Better well stick with Counter-Strike.

I have to say that this is a fun game to turn one's brain off and play for a bit. It's a tad on the easy side, though, once you learn how to evade the knockdown/deathblow guys. I've yet to go into a game where the opponents were halfway decent shots. Even the upper teens/lower twenty level characters win against the little kids only by virtue of their gear and assault rifles.

I got this game *ages* ago, early beta, when a friend reccomended it to me. Problem is that my router / NAT isn't compatible with the game servers - and nothing I could do seemed to work.

I could join a game fine, but everyone would seem to have 999 ping and not move, nor could they be killed.
Looked damn fun, so I'm waiting for the full version (as apparently the full version servers can support NAT).

I'll play then, for sure.

I play guys around my level. The game is heavily weighted with the equipment, so when I do play against guys double my level or higher I end up stalking and hunting the wounded and weakened ones. In a straight up fight, even though I can move and aim rather well, stray shots are enough to drop me, after a little while, whereas my lower powered weapons have a much smaller effect.

personally i will only play 1v1 or 2v2 now, i remember playing as a lvl 23-25 and dropping lvl 35+ so its not really down to the weapons, it is heavily down to skill

Haha, no. Running around normally is a bad enough idea, standing still is suicide. At this point, I've only been playing a couple of days so the mass combats are the best form of exp that I've found. I'll have to give 1v1 a shot soon, though.

Though when I peruse any faq about Gunz, the advanced skills all consist of various quick button presses; slashshot, halfstep, what have you. If upper level play is about spamming these combinations, is it really that fun in the endgame?

if you can kill them by running hiding and shooting then great if you can kill them up close with ur sword then great, its about how u play it, how much quicker you kill them than they kill you.

Gunz isn't all that complex that I haven't been able to basically observe and draw conclusions as to just how skilled a person can become. I don't expect much from a free game; like I said, I use it to veg out, but it isn't a very complex game, the skill comes from being able to perfect timing plus a moderate amount of twitch reflex.

By spamming skills. Whenever I've jumped into higher level games, anyone with a sword bounces around constantly doing that butterfly cut technique. No one runs, very few people I've seen made much use of the tumble; they use jump and melee dash. The thing about the skills are that they are very effective, trying to hit a guy who is air dashing and slash shotting all over the place is a pain-- and a thousand times more effective than hiding and ambushing. Maybe you play differently, but for a majority of the people I've seen, "making the other person dead before you are" means spamming complex skills. Sounds very boring to me.

No one is untouchable. Assuming I mastered the ability to move like a speed demon, random shots will still hit now and again. When I get hit by random shots from powerful weapons, it hurts like hell and I can't even accidentally get hit too often. Still, assuming I get an opponent like h2O, who cheesed his way to whatever level, equipment probably won't matter if I can move really well; but I assume that most people who get to a high level earned the level and learned a bit in the process.

The skills all incorporate movement, and you have four different directions to choose from to keep you from being predicable. From what I've seen, normal movement in upperlevels is dashing, which is short enough to change direction on the fly if your opponent manages to lead you as a target and catch you with a volley of bullets. It sounds good in theory, but when I see people using those skills, they don't incorporate slow normal movement in it (or even the firearm tumbling.) And they win.

Sounds like fun. You'll own me, most likely, because while I generally waste people my level (and a little above) in normal play, I haven't become extremely good at much of anything. Don't get me wrong, this post and my previous posts are not stating that I am too good for this game, or that I am a phenom in just a few short days. But I have been around the block a bit in fps, so when I look forward to what is in store for me when I get to higher levels, I'm not terribly impressed. I guess I could always just play to mid levels, then make new characters, but low level players are annoying in their own way. Oh well.

They annoy me, too, when I try and play fairly, but it annoys me more, if your opponent has 1 hit left, and you're gonna finish them, than a 3rd party comes out of NOWHERE and kills you.

People always seek easy kills. In sword battles people always go to the pit so they can use the launch attack with katanas.

Otherwise yeah, paralyzing, then stabbing is weak.

games should be fun, play it however makes it fun for you, if thats usuing the dagger push to ambush then so be it. if thats trying out all these complex made up techniques then so be it

for me gunz is most fun when im playing 1v1 against as many people as possible and winning, i recommend u get to lvl 21+ if ur not there already and play as many 1v1s as possible 2v2s even but 1v1 is the best in my eyes

Has anyone else encountered a bug that keeps your deaths from being counted? I was going to check out the forums to see if anyone posted anything similar, and post about it if I couldn't find anything, but the Gunz forums either don't load on my computer or they are so slow that it is as if they do not load.

I mean, I'm a relatively good player, but seeing an end score of 23 kills and 0 deaths kinda tipped me off, especially since I recall dying about a dozen times.

I remember playing a kid once who I killed at least 3-4 times and at the end of ther match he had zero deaths. But as the aboe poster said, it's probably fixed now.

doing the half step(badly) and the butterfly and all those tricks and stuff and everyone is killing me and i can hardly kill some one

cant climb walls by swinging the sword at it

and what do you know all of a sudden i can kill someone with just a few hits with a butterfly
and im jumping like crasy butterflying every mofo in my way

Renegade right click with teh sword to do the climb thing.

More specifically. Right click and almost immediately jump and left click. The normal sword strike will return you to a nuetral position, so if you do it fast enough it looks like you are just slashing the walls to climb them.

I have a level 50 named efdf. I play in server 3.

However, in answer to one of the earlier posts about how it gets boring because you just spam skills, that is incorrect. The skills have to mix. Otherwise, when you are switching techniques, you will stand there motionless for a little bit. Someone who is good can quickly close in and shotgun you point blank in that time.

And slash shot is horrible. You get shot too easily :(

Hhs and hs work, but if you repeatedly spam them people will notice and start shooting where they know you'll eventually end up in the higher channels, which is basically where you'll learn this stuff. I made this weird variation where you dash twice in the same direction or dash once and do a half dash in same direction while shooting.

For getting past block, just aim at their feet.

Equipment really does matter if it is a HUGE difference in levels. However, it is not a guranteed win. On my level 5, I killed a level 45 in free channel in a bow duel.

For sprayers with mgs and rifles, you should NOT use hs, hhs or butterfly to advance. Use ambush and don't let yourself get caught in the open.

Swords are VERY important and don't think they are useless.

Don't just spam butterfly. Shotgun blasts get through partially and you can't move fast enough to make up for the damage you take.

However, butterfly is great for up close combat because if they don't have their sword out they can't block and are effectively stunned until they die. Also, safe-fall from flips by tapping space.

Well all games like that are quite simple when you get the hang of the inner game mechanics, then you exploit that over and over again for optimal play. Thus getting you xp/money very very fast. At one point I think I was at a 6:1 kill/death ratio in mansion.

This is why I get bored of games very fast.

People play some online golf with me, its way better than gunz.

I thought about playing this. Is it any fun for new players? A lot of multiplayer shooters blow for newbs because they're pretty much giant fucking targets. I've been playing Deus Ex multiplayer lately, and I want to strangle each and every sniper that plays. (And they probably want to strangle me for abusing the speed aug and rocket launcher ;)).
