Has anyone seen "SAW"? My roommate and I watched it a few nights ago, and it was quite literally the scariest movie I've ever seen, mainly because it was something that could ACTUALLY happen. Monster movies don't scare me, because I don't believe in that stuff, but the events in Saw could really happen. . .so, scary. I really want to go see Saw 2 now, but that means another couple of nights sleeping with the lights on.
Any other good scary movies anyone can recommend?

Yeah, I have seen Saw.... really creepy!
Wow. That movie kind of ...woah... Just how each death of the victims were planned out and all... it scared me. It is something that could happen in real life and that is the scary part.
A scary movie recommendation:
Um... The Grudge.
It depends on the person though. You may have seen this.

If you liked saw, you'll love saw II. Theres more blood, more gore, and the twist(s) at the end are sooooooooooooo cool. And I here saw III is already in the planning stage. I cant wait!

I have to agree on the grudge. It was a nice film, all in all. Didn't go for the ring series much, but try 'Chakushin Ari' (Hey, you could translate that as 'You've got mail', but man what a stuffed up version that would be).
I also liked Event Horizon.

I hated Saw...the overacting was just too much for me. The idea was great for it though and I will have to go see Saw II to see if they fixed the problems with the first one.
The Grudge was very well done and ranks up there with the creepiest movies I've seen.
I love horror movies though...and some of the classics still hold up to this day on the creepy/scary factor. The original Night of the Living Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and many of the Alfred Hitchcock movies would fall in that catagory.
These days, it takes alot for a movie to scare me or creep me out, so I always look forward to a director putting together something that really works and hits home.

Saw is great, Saw 2 just pissed me off. I didn't like it at all.
The gore is up. That's nice, but.....
The whole point of it all just kinda goes down the shitter at the end IMO. :( The twists are there, but.. Argh.. I don't wanna say too much to spoil anything :p
A good thing about Saw 2 is you get to see what happened to the guy that was left down in the room at the end of Saw 1. Eww though, very eww.

Saw makes baby Jesus cry. The fact that two people wrote that script and managed to still screw it up makes me cry. The fact that Danny Glover, despite his experience in the Lethal Weapon series as playing a cop and seemed to have forgotten that in playing an idiotic FBI agent makes me want break down and call a therapist.
The initial plot is great--a self-righteous, bitter bedridden guy dying of cancer gets revenge by stalking people and putting them in deathtraps in order to teach them a life lesson... okay, maybe not so great. Well, the gore was... anyway! What I'm saying is, the initial movie just killed everything for me and I never want to see anything associated with this movie ever again.
Oh, one thing I never could get over before I stop ranting--on the first movie, instead of trying their hardest to escape or find ways to get themselves free of their chains, what do Adam and that other guy do for ten hours? Sit around and talk. Idiots.

Ichi the Killer, or Korosiya 1. You will find Saw to be a cuddly kitten compared to this flick. I admit, though, the tricky elements in Saw had me in love. The actors, however, didn't seem to get in the right feel for the moments. In other notes, I haven't seen the second movie; maybe I should gather some buddies to trollop on over to Harkins...
...but yeah.

I bought The Grudge but I haven't seen it yet. My roommie and I were gonna watch it after we watched SAW but we were too freaked out to watch another scary movie. I definitely have to go see Saw II sometime soon. I'll let you know how I feel about it after that!
I liked the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre but the remake was lame. Same as Pyscho.
Can I find Ichi the Killer at Blockbuster, akitaka? I wanna see it!

ummm cradle of fear, it by the guy in cradle of filth, if you want a laugh watch this, a mate told me it was the goriest thing he had seen, i still think the lawn mower scene in brain dead wins it though.

Saw was ok, haven't seen Saw II but I will anyway. If you want good horror flicks I suggest Ichi the Killer, Audition, or if you want images that will make your skin crawl even if it isn't a great movie, get Event horizon on DVD and do a frame by frame on any of the flashy bits.

I loved Saw (tho' it didn't scared me, sadly...) and I hope I'll be able to see Saw II soon. The Grudge was cool too, but not really scary.
I saw The Eye, too, it was pretty good, but I heard the The Eye II isn't as good as the first one... I should look for more scary movies, they're really funny in general..
Those movies just aren't scary for me. Also, they often seem quite stupid personally. The Grudge made me want to laugh and laugh. "A weird little boy is hiding in the closet! OH WELL! Oops, I already forgot about him even after he nearly scared the shit out of me! YAY!"

Ichi wasn't in Blockbuster or Hollywood video around my area. I had to download it, via torrent. It's really one of those movies that could tame "Team America" through violence, alone. Heck, it even tops "American History X" in my book.

Another movie by the same author is "Audition", which you could find at Blockbuster. Note that none of what I'm mentioning are horror, but thrillers.

I don't know...... Audition successfully made me fear psychotic asian women.
The Grudge, kept me scared for a good three nights.

That movie made me die on the inside, along with The excorcist(sp)(perverted), the ring two(plot was pulled out of its ass, and Little black Book( only movie that made me want to shoot myself in the head after watching).
I mean Every 5 darn seconds "MOW", I hated that so much. The scenes were not that scary, and the plot also seemed to have been pulled out of someones ass. Especially the reason for the whole ghost thingie, and why they did not manage to get rid of it.

I'm one of those thick skinned people who isnt effected by horror/thrillers, kind of bad cause I cant enjoy them when I go to the movies or watch them with people who are =(
The scariest thing (and about the only thing) to make me jump in a film was when I was pretty young, Jurassic Park, the raptors jumping out with the screech or whatever lol xP
I've probably seen this with a friend (I have a few who love horror/thrillers) and just dont remember it due to such. D=

I liked Saw because it was more of a "thinker" horror movie. Most of the ones made today are either lame remakes or just mindless gorey grabage. There are a few plotholes that i noticed after watching it a second time but i still thought it was at least slightly above average. I want to see what they have done with Saw 2.
One of the only movies to scare the living shit out of me as a child was Candy Man. Don't bother with sequels and all that trash because they usually suck. ;) Another was hellraiser(the original no shitty sequels here either). Something about a man with needles in his face seemed to catch my attention.
Oh, and ichi the killer( from the trailer) reminds me of a Nightmare on elm street film or Gatekeeper, without the masks, and the graphics seemed nicer.
edit:I think I know what you are talking about and I may have meant that when I said gatekeeper.( I forget names easily)
I think it was an albino bald guy with lots and lots of needles jabbed in his face.
Was called hellraiser:bloodline (dont remember if it had a number)

Aww, people are hating on 'Saw'.
Those two guys shot that movie in a month and made BANK. You have to hand it to them for that.
Call me old fashioned, but Hitch's 'Psycho' is one of my favorites. There's so much creepy atmosphere that it almost forces you to jump during the climaxes.

Yeah, Audition was something really twisted indeed. The last scene of that movie is probably going to be burned into my memory for the rest of my life. If not that, then the sound...

That's great and all, but the movie still sucked. I'd rather have a movie take a longass time to film and be great than see something that shot in less than a month and be horrible.

Agreed completely. If you praise the people who put no effort into movie making, you encourage people to churn out crap like "The Blair Witch Project". My head still hurts from the stupid bitch who kept screaming.

Haha, you're really adamant about Saw's suckitude.
I'm not arguing about how good the movie is, I'm just mentioning the fact that it was a damn good $100,000 (Or less?) investment for them.

If you've ever been on the set of a film, you'll understand that it's a grueling process. It isn't like they slapped the movie together haphazardly. Sure, there's alot you can touch up in post, but you have to give credit where it's due.
This, once again; isn't regarding the merits of the movie itself. BWP was agonizingly bad, but they made insane amounts of money off of it. I'm not saying you should give them credit as FILMMAKERS, but you should give them credit as investors. Likewise, they won't churn out crappy movies if there's no demand for them; so the ones you should attack are the people who run off to see the crappy movies, not the filmmakers.

My older sister had to sleep with the lights on for 2 weeks after she saw The Blair Witch Project. I thought it was lame. My friends and I filmed our own remake of it in the NC Mountains, which was pretty sweet. We were like. . .oh I don't know, maybe 14 at the time.
I just thought of another good scary movie. Gothika. That was great! It was creepy, and I definitely jumped a few times.
I think scary movies are much more effective in theater, rather than watching them at home. Big screen = more opportunities for scaryness.

Yes, I think so too. I watched The Grudge, in theaters. I was very scared in there... I was practically the loudest one screaming... "Oh my goodnes ... Oh MY GOODNESS!" :p
I thought I would never be able to watch it again. I did. I rented it to get over my fear and watched it at home. It was not as scary at home (though still creepy). Then my family watched it (they did not see it in the theaters) and it didn't seem to have the same creepy effect on them like it did on me when I watched it in the theaters.
The theaters is creepy... dark... and sometimes empty. I thing this adds into the scary factors.

I've never seen Saw, but definitely interested. The Blair Witch Project was just confusing - I could never figure out what the hell the point of it all was. The people in it were actually scared or something, i was told, but apparently they kept getting notes from the film crew or some such, and all in all I came out thinking... WTF??
POTENTIAL SPOILER - The last scene was ok. Only because you knew something was going to happen for once. But, what that was I still don't know...
Anyway, as for other movies - I want to get a copy of the Grudge at some stage, if DVDs in Japan weren't so damned expensive and I didn't have so many things to take care of. I'd like to see the original, too, if possible. Maybe it's time for a trip to book-off...

Monkey...... why I feel the need to say the word is benevolent to the fact that I am still sober enough to spell the word correctly. Blair Witch was not scary...... it hurt my head. As for the belief that the theater actually adds something to it I consider that absolute rubbish. A decent sound system and a large enough TV will provide you with more than close to theater experience compare to actually paying fo a movie. If you consider it in that way the entertainment system will pay itself off in 10 movies.

I normally love disturbing, gorey movies. But Saw was horribly executed with bad acting and an overly-disturbing storyline for its intent. It was too disturbing, too cheesy and way uncool.
Edit: Oh yeah, the grudge was absolutely horrible. The only people I've ever met who liked it are the kids in my class who listen to 50 cent and jack off to Sarah Michelle Gellar cgi porn. It had 'disturbing images', but that is about it. Everything else about it was bad. Take away the scary faces and you have a really bad storyline. Why was she a nurse in Japan? Why did everyone speak flawless English to her? None of this was explained. Besides, it wasn't even scary for me. I didn't jump or start once. Whenever a face or a 'scary image' showed up, I just sort of sat there blandly and stared at the screen unmoved. And holy fuck, the whole "aehhhhhhhh" thing on the phone made me want to throw my body through the screen and end the movie.

Ichi's a lot more intense than the three combined, I think. Tadanobu Asano is too good an actor; he really makes the pariah in Kakihara (the main character with the slit-mouth) come alive.
As for Audition, I'm sure people who have seen it with thought and some empathy are now officially staying away from go-cons and online dating. "That's a good thing." (/martha)
Blair Witch is overrated. Period. But the fiasco that the directors and promoters made of it being 'real' added to the scare factor; as soon as this was dispelled, no one really cared for it.

Ohmagoodness I just watched The Grudge tonight, by myself alone in the dark in my dorm. I was whimpering throughout most of it. That scared me bad! Scary movies didn't used to scare me, but now every one I've seen lately has got me hiding under the covers and making scaredy noises every time something pops out of nowhere.
At least I don't stay scared after the movie is over. My older sister remains scared for weeks following a scary movie. I finished The Grudge about 15 minutes ago and I'm mostly recovered by now. I might have to put in a nice happy movie later tonight anyway, though, just in case.
