Is there netspeak with Japanese characters? Can there be?

There's something similar, but it's mostly used by girls via phone IM, IIRC.

OMG. Don't even ask this question. There's l33t speak with Japanese hiragana/katakana. Like Henjin said: mostly used by girls on phones im and such.

I think you can find some examples online. Not sure what to sure, though.

you mean kaomoji?
^_^
>_<
;_;

and of course, they use japanese character, hiragana and katakana and some kanji too.

gal-moji. It's pretty awful stuff, far less legible than netspeak/133tsp33k. Google it and you will find some useful links.

Turns what you input into gal moji. There are three levels of how much you want to change it.

It doesn't seem to convert kanji... But they probably don't use it anyway, do they?

This was on 'medium.'

What the くそ?

Looking at it, I can see how it works, but yeesh... 頭痛を引き起こす。。。

I did it but hey that is just more painful. I thought the purpose was to make it quicker and easier. Maybe that is just a western philosophy...

NO!!! not quicker and easier... ju$7 l1|<3 1337 15 m0r3 f0r fu|\| a|\|d pr0\/1|\|g 1'm k3\/\/l.

actually... 1337 is just as confusing, if not MORE confusing as gal-moji... and so what... there are far too many haters here.

And kao moji are more betterer than emoticons you need to turn your head to see.

ok. Dont mean to put a dampner on things up that is the biggest load of crap i hav ever seen. How on earth that could be seen as cool is beyond me.

That is probably the first time i hav ever felt that i am old and outta it.

i must admit that kao moji are better. They actually generally look like what they are are too.

One small comment - instead of writing 'lol' in Japanese, write 'w' as appropriate.

例:
― 週末は予定ある?
― ううん、実は仕事w
― あらww

And that kind of gibberish.

Wow.....
I had to think REALLY hard to get what it was, and that's when I typed it myself!! lmao

こωにちは★ゎたUは≠ャシ→τ〃す★
what the shit. lmao

I have serious trouble reading l33t and gal-moji. I forever will not understand why people can't just type a word normally (regardless of what language it is).

There is internet speak to a degree that I cannot fathom.

Here is some of it. Just some. There are Japanese-2ch dictionaries available in bookstores. It's ridiculous.

It's so much easier to just type things probably!!! Why must people make things difficult!

I actually like 1337. oo I don't see why people hate it so much. I mean, sure it's overrated and people who say entire paragraphs in it because they think it's cool can be unbelieveably annoying, but that's the fault of the people who use it, not the "language" itself, ne? xD

Kao-moji are nifty. ^ω^

Gal-moji is exactly like Japanese 1337 when you think about it. There's still a (slight) resemblance to the original characters. に becomes レニ, and such. Even when you look at the odd ones like ん to ω and は to レ£ there's a slight resemblance (if you look at it upside down while squinting and beating yourself over the head with a hammer). I can pretty much understand it, but it doesn't really have much value. ._.

The kaomojiI've seen with japanese text when chatting with a japanese friend of mine:
(゜ー゜;A
(^ー^* )♪
(´;ェ;`)ウゥ

but really the first one took me ages to decode...

My keitai has 20 kao-moji pre-programmed into it. I use 'em a fair bit because I don't actually have to type them. They add character...

How do you even make some of those symbols in the Gal moji? ASCII codes or something?

Pierrot le Fou

Character map, or on the cellphone, there are submenus of characters.

2ちゃんねる <-- crazy!

Seems the Japanese love how they can go online and say what they really want to say without giving their identity, but that website is just way to in-depth. Seems like people spend their lives on those forums.

That sounds like so much work... Is it to keep people from looking over their shoulders and reading what they're typing, or is it there for no other reason than to look 'cool.' (or カワイイ?)

When is the last time something being inefficient, impractical, or tedious prevented it from being implemented in Japan?

Good point. Question withdrawn.
