When how they talk defines the language, it's not up to us to decide who is closer to right. ._.
EDIT: On a side note, I live on the border between Dublin and Columbus! =o

English's home is in North America.
Interesting note:
A language's mother-land its most speakers are.
Brits (like myself) don't necessarily like to admit this... but North American English is the standard, solely because of the number of speakers who live in North America, specifically the United States.
Where the language originated is less important than where it resides now.

Reminds me of Steven Colbert saying something to the degree of, "the student has become the master".

By spelling some words completely wrong, then labelling them as correct lol.
"mom"
"color"
"flavor"
various other "---our" words
 :p

well, officially canada still uses colour, flavour, armour, honour, neighbour... (off the top of my head... meh..)
and *I* for one use "mum".... which my mother in law finds cool.... (shrug)...
however... the home the the english langiage currently IS in the US... specifically, in the microsoft spell checking database...
I think most people rely on it more than webster's... which speaks to laziness, I suppose..

actually... even though i tend to use colour... color makes a whole lot more sense.
also... all the double consonants in bringlish... and the french hangups... like programme... are unnecessarily annoying.
But i do think aluminium (like most other elements, ending in -ium) makes more sense than aluminum.
I'm not sure what some Americans speak can even be called English. ._. But seriously, no one cares about correct grammar or spelling anymore. ;_; ← grammar freak
I myself prefer the original spellings (colour rather than color, et cetera). They look prettier. xD

hehe... I'm a fan of the english language, though I tolerate abuses in various forms... expecially if I think it conveys the emotion better....
for example... i abuse "....." HORRIBLY... can you tell?
People are always telling me that i write/type just like I speak, and in some cases, that they can hear my voice when they read my stuff..
umm....
BOO!
.....
All that aside, I'm a typo magnet...

Grammar books are just a poor snapshot of what some ruling class thought was the right way to talk or write. Spelling is pretty much the same, which is why so many English words are hard for ESL speakers to spell. Real linguists spend their lives tearing their hair out trying to figure out what is going on inside our heads as we speak and how it evolved through time away from the previous snapshot. Case in point, the only thing keeping "whom" alive in America is English teachers.
Just my opinion, but I understand it to be an informed one, lol
I'm an English major, and I don't really care much for grammar, but more on the clairty of my language. So, I respect someone who can break down extremely theoretical texts that are confounding by itself into demotic terms.
I also spend almost no amount of my time on correcting grammatical mistakes on my paper, but still manage to get good grades. :D
