I am getting sick and tired of two very specific ad campaigns right now. And here's the thing, I'm a comm. major who's going into advertising, so when I see an ad I don't like, I get pissed. I guess I just don't like seeing people doing horrible, horrible, things with the industry I'm planning to go into. Yes, I know I'm probably going into the wrong industry if that's how I feel... :D

Anyway, the first of the ads are these BOD body spray ads. Just for the uninformed, these ads feature black and white filming. Guys with the build of Ken dolls run around doing various things (one ad features them at football practice) while a pair of "hot" chicks watch the show. A female voice narrates the scene, saying "Hot bod....look at that bod...I need your bod..." They then show the BOD line of products.

What the hell is this nonsense? Am I supposed to believe that by spraying on some bloody clear, scented water hot chicks are going to watch me at football practice and lust after my "hot bod"? I'm 5' 9", have no physical activities and I'm chubby, dammit! At least AXE had humorous ads that were aimed at more of an "everyman" demographic. The strategy these BOD ads are employing is so obvious that it makes me ill: to make people who don't fit a certain body shape feel inferior, thus leading to the impression that the product can solve their problems. That is NOT the way you're supposed to use persuasion, dangit!

The other one that annoys me is this new Converse ad. My problem with it is that it seems to make no sense. It shows ten to thirteen year olds in various small acts of "individuality" while dressing or acting in a way that is clearly "rebellious." And the music in the background sucks. The reason I dislike this ad is a lot simpler, however. The music in the background sucks. :D

Heh. I can't say I'm fond of those ads, either. Especially the BOD one. Makes me laugh more than pissed, though. The woman is way too enamoured

And just to let everyone know, Axe rocks. I smell good with it. And the girls go "Oooo"

Know what commercials I hate? Fanta. I asbsolutely hate those. The song is annoying and it defies logic. Soda does not quench thirst for long, and it only makes it worse as time passes. I will not fall for that, damnit. Give me some Gatorade.

I hate car commercials. I do not have enough money to buy any of them, nore does the type of car I have matter; if it works, I'm glad. Also, the commercials come on EVERY OTHER COMMERCIAL, sometimes back to back. Gah.

People keep blaming video games for the increase of violence but I know for a fact it is the stupid television commercials plaguing our society and not video games. I mean seriously some of those commercials are so damn stupid that I want to grab a rifle and shoot the bastards who conceived the garbage in the frist place. I am sure some people have went totally insane from commercials and went on a violent killing streak.

True. Car commercials rule the air. I have my truck, so I'm content.

Oh that brings up another one... Dunno if you all see it, but there is this commercial for trucks(don't remember the brand) and they are obviously trying to appeal to Latinos... Now I am Hispanic, and I was just damn annoyed. They choose this guy with the worst Mexican accent, soundling like he's forcing himself to be Rico Suave, pitching trucks at me. Hell no!

Sounds like every single advertisement aimed at women in existence.

I don't get that commercial with the momma's boy. It's a funny commercial, but then at the end they sa "some men never take risks. for men who do take risks, there's new tag [?] deoderant"

what kind of risk are yiou taking by using deoderant?

Those commercials where they show little kids using the toilet, the personal injury claims and the ones with mobile phone (cellphone) ringtones playing (mainly crazy frog ¬_¬) just make me switch channels instantly, although I'm not a big commercial lover anyway.

I haven't heard of most of the comms ur talkign about, possibly because in Canada they have something called a "crap-filter" that filters out most pf the crap. But the ads which piss me off the most are thediaper ads and the deodorant ads. First, the diapers. PLEASE STOP. I do NOT want to see grotesque midgets running around in diapers and perhaps training pants with some ridiculous music in the background. "You're a big kid now, start feeling good about yourself and wear these confabulously amaztastic diaper-pants, so you can shit in them!" And "Bad to the bone" is playing in the background. Perhaps you know of my anger management problems (I still have it, nothing happns at those seminars except making me want to kill the fucking instructor) so it is very difficult to see these commercials without going out, buying a gun, googling the ad agency responsible, waking up the next morning at 6, taking the subway dowtown, going up to the ad agency, and shooting the fucking place up. I am SOOOOOOOO close to diong this. I shouldn't have to watch this crap EVERY FUCKING TIME I TURN ON TV. The kisd aren't watching, MORONS! They CAN'T UNDERSTAND YOU.
The deodorant commericals are even worse. The funniest one is the obviously forieng oine, probably from Czech (is that whats it's called this week? i dunnno) or something, and the dubbing is horrible. Shit, I KNOW I need deodorant, so you al can stop. In fact, in my perfect world, there would only be one fucking brand, bt it wouldnt have a name. It would be the best there is, and every so often (5 years) a new version with better shit would come out, by the same company. People could choose from that. I would make ads liek "Buy my produt, 'cause it's the only choice you got, BITCH!"
I used to drinik Fanta back in England, and the ads there used to be...good. These ones make it seem as if some ex-porn director from spain or something decided to make a commerical and just randomly selected Fanta as his project.
The funniest ads, on the other hand, are probably Geico. I love them, And that new one by travelocity. " Am I going to die?"

Those damn Personal Attorney commercials really suck. It doesn't help that ther're on every other commercial. And just about any perscription drug, mainly the erectile dysfunction ones. I hate most tv in general.

See, I can almost excuse drug ads. Most types of ads attempt to show the product being useful in real life. You can't do that with drug ads (you really want to the see the practical usage of herpes medication?). So whatever images, text or music is involved in the ad has to somehow be compelling enough to get Mr. Herpes to buy the drug without actually showing those who aren't in the know something too disturbing. This is why drug ads basically have to suck and almost always have nothing to do with the actual product itself. Add that to the fact that if an ad doesn't say what the medication is for then it doesn't have to list its side effects, of course you're going to have some of the most confusing things on TV.

I only hate the ED commercials where for the first part they show these happy couples then for the last half of the commercial they list all of the side effects too fast for anyone to actually understand, after watching it the first time I thought it said I could keep my erection for 4 hours after using it.
