mainly battlefield 2... any form of leveling up is evil! too much addiction involved. after getting 9/50 in this weeks chinese test and a similar mark in my japanese test ive decided only to play when my clan has war. more fun for me.

Myrsilus

I've been occupying myself with Katamari Damacy... It does not really get old and there is always a record to beat. Can't wait for the fall games.

On a related note, I'm going to kill my friend for leaving the city with my Xenogears. It took me so long to get that game. I spent $50 renting that game over and over to beat it, then I buy it... lend it... and he steals it. Bah. My poor Xenogears.

Let's see... I've got a lot going on right now, but the most notable is Beyond Good and Evil, which is really fucking awesome. Most overlooked game EVAR - Ubisoft released it at the same time as Prince of Persia, then threw their advertising behind PoP so poor BGaE didn't get the acclaim it deserves. Go play it. Now.

I also just re-aquired a genesis and have been playing Castlevania: Bloodlines, which is fairly entertaining.

Currently, UT (2000 & 2004) from time to time. Fortunately, it's not very
time consuming..

Yeah, and CS is crap. If it's still as realistic as CS 1.6.
I mean, if you shoot someone's right calf with an AWP from two meters,
he can still blow your head off your shoulders..(if he has a loaded firearm) and BTW, no one noticed that if you use at certain class of rifle scopes
in reality, you can see not only through the scope but also
your surroundings? I mean..
(and how come that with all that supposed realism, there never was
such a thing on those guns as three round bursts, or fire selectors.
I mean, any self respecting individual is aware that the AK-47 has
two firing modes, full auto, semi auto). Or bayonets?
Just combat knives! It's absurd.
Absolutely no simulation of endurance, exhaustion and such.
Still, it's good they use the new engine, the original HL one
was very lame(compared to UT ).

Depends at the moment I have a backlog of stuff and more games coming in that I know what to do.

My list consist of the following currently:

PSP - Tales of Eternia JP

PS2 - Namco X Capcom, SMT: DDS, Atelier Iris Eternal Mana 1/2, Grandia III, Tales of Destiny 2 JP, Tales of Rebirth JP, Tales of Symphonia JP

PC - None only because I have a slow connection here in the countryside

GBA - Rockman Zero 4, Kingdom Hearts COM, Metroid Zero

PSX - Tales of Phantasia JP

As for the rest, well I can say it will be a while, I need to really get back and spend a couple hours a day doing some work :p

I've been playing BF2 when I get the chance. Made it to the next rank and got my first weapon unlock. *giddy grin*

MaverickHL
08-14-2005, 03:36 PM
Yeah BF2 is an addicting game, I just don't want to add anymore right now to my backlog. What was worse was when I was playing RO and PSO, those MMORPG's can really suck time off your other video game and even other more important things.

Annie

FFXI and FF3

akitaka
08-14-2005, 04:00 PM
I used to play FFXI. I had a 56 samurai too; but god jesus does that game consume time. You almost have to play for a minimum of 3 hours or your party gets angry enough to cut your head off.

Annie
08-14-2005, 04:13 PM
The only time I really get to party is on the weekends. It's even harder for me because on my main job, my boyfriend and I play together, always. So I'm stuck in Jeuno half the time waiting for party, because parties don't have room for both of us. It's not that bad though. If we get bored we just level one of our low level jobs. The only jobs we party together with really is our main and sub jobs, and BST. I've been playing since like March '04 though. I love this game and I ain't givin it up til I hit 75 with at least one job.

MaverickHL
08-14-2005, 04:15 PM
I may try FFXI later, when it is abandoned and we can hack their servers and use it for private use. I still do not like the thought that monthly fee can end up getting me more games in one year, also the amount of time it takes really turns me off a bit since I am busy working.

Annie
08-14-2005, 04:25 PM
Yeah, if you don't have a lot of time to put into the game it can really suck. Quests take time, leveling takes time, and you have to be sociable because you really can't do anything yourself. My problem is I don't like asking for help. I still don't have any friends on my server, and I've been on this server since like April.

MaverickHL
08-14-2005, 04:34 PM
Well with my brother (he has time to blow), the easiest place to get a network of friends for online is through FPS games, if they have a clan then it would make it easier to invite them to try the game if they are willing.

My brother made enough contacts through FPS games that he did not need to rely on making friends on the server.

I dislike MMO's The whole 'pay monthly' thing killed it for me. Guild Wars is ok in spots, provided you have a nice party going on in there. Katamari Damacy is one of my favorite games.

DJEvan

Guild wars was ok the first 10 levels. but, you really need a closely knit group of friends, since its essentially PVE (Player versus Enemy) for the firt 75% of the game as you collect stuff. Then it degrades down to Diablo2-esque item hunting all the way through. i'm still kicking myself for buying that game on a whim =/

Dungeon Siege II... Only 2/3 of the way through... Must beat it so I can write a walkthrough. ._. Awesome game.

is it better than the first one? The total lack of character development really made Dungeon Siege get old fast. I hear they fixed it, but I'm still a bit wary.

DEFINITELY better than the first one. I gave up on the first one after a half an hour... But I've played this one for over 25 hours and I'm still eager to continue. ^^ More character development (though not too many visual options T_T). And it's just so much more fun, especially doing all the sidequests.

Actually, most of the music was composed by Mitsuda Yasunori, Uematsu only got involved after Yasunori worked himself to exhaustion :P

We started in April, I think? I'm not in any linkshells at the moment. I usually drop them if one is given to me. If one person in a linkshell annoys me it ruins the whole bunch, lol.

Time's Scar is a beautiful song...one of those melodic tunes similar to the Gerudo Valley theme in Zelda...but unfortunately, that didn't save Chrono Cross from become painfully boring to play. Chrono Trigger owns its successor tenfold.

Replaying the Suikoden series in order to catch up (never played 4th, just bought it) and prepare for the 5th to come out this Fall.

Also playing a TON of Civ3, getting through Doom3 and FarCry (computer crashed while I was almost at the end of both, lost my saves  ) and dabbling in Diablo 2 still.

Other than that, I'm just waiting for Civ4, Hellgate: London, Halflife 2 expansion, and Quake 4.

Also, I need to buy Battlefield 2, but waiting for my computer to get fixed first.

Is Eternal Story Eternal Darkness in Canada? Oh, and myself, I am playing through all the classic LucasArts Adventure games, like Sam and Max, Curse of Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, and Full Throttle. Excellent games they are.

Dude..... Gotta check..... am I the only one who finds the mini game "Car Bomb" in Sam & Max truly addictive? I have a save game set on it simply so I can occasionally play it.

Ace Combat 5: the Unsung War
Half-Life 2
Final Fantasy XI
Tekken 5- Asuka is just plain RAW. Do you hear me? RAW!

And, of course, still letting Makoto kick down the Judo CHOP on people in Third Strike, and Hulk/Jin/Juggernaut rampages in MvC2.

It had been nearly three weeks recently since I touched a game and actually enjoyed it... I decided to go back to Tekken 5 for a while since a little practice doesn't hurt for when I might happen to go to the arcade.

Asuka is hot, btw. But I enjoy destroying my opponents much more and seeing them mentally scramble for excuses to their friends. Priceless.

At arcades, I use Bryan and Lee. At home I can go to Bryan, Lee, Wang, Kazuya, and sometimes even Roger Jr. I'd be able to use these other characters more often if the arcade console didn't give my wrist cramps and if they had PS2 controls. I will never be used to the arcade sticks. Never.

DJEvan
08-16-2005, 11:58 AM
heh, i can NEVER ever use a PS2 gamead and be as proficient as using a arcade stick.
My usual playing chars are Jin, Raven, King, but i'm picking up Roger, Paul, Law and Yoshi. Variety never hurts

Ah thanks for reminding me of Yoshi. He's always been a friend of mine. Even in Soul Calibur, I don't even care if he's not so great there.

Dunno how you can do stick man... It's too cumbersome for me. Especially when doing circular movements. For some reason I can never do it when I need it, but always when I don't.

Then add the fact that my wrist locks up something bad and that makes for a difficult venture. I still rule, though.

DJEvan
08-16-2005, 12:05 PM
wellll, i dunno. maybe the fact that i've been playing on a stick since KOF95?

Circular movements are not so bad. the worst is still doing EWGFs. stupid planning on Namco's part. i still whiff alot on it and get the normal versions.

Myrsilus
08-16-2005, 12:08 PM
I suppose playing stick that long could do that for ya.

Yeah I know what you mean with the EWGFs. But then I suck at stick, so... maybe it's just me.

Kind of the reason I only use Bryan and Lee at the arcade. They can be a little tricky at some points(Bryan's recovey time, Lee's different timing and the hitman stance), but they're easier for me to use on the stick since they don't require many circular movements. I tend to not know how long I should move the stick and I end up jumping and ducking. Basically dancing for my opponent.

DJEvan
08-16-2005, 12:10 PM
takes awhile to get the timing down pat. Is tekken 5.1 out at your side? Law and Bryan are both slightly nerfed, so i have a easier time fighting them now. but they're still powerhouses.

Myrsilus
08-16-2005, 12:16 PM
Yeah I think we do have 5.1. I don't really get to ask, so I just try to notice the subtleties. I'm glad, though, because Bryan has been getting a lot of attention for his power. It becomes a usual excuse for me beating someone. Really, though, using the stick tones my skill down more often than not. I'm still glad Bryan is nerfed a bit.

Well when they complain I just take out Lee. He's better now, yes, but definitely not top tier.

DJEvan
08-16-2005, 12:22 PM
nah, he used to have a killer combo where i can take out over 3/4 of my opponen'ts life. goes like this (tekken terminology where 1 2 3 4 refer to lp rp lk rk respectivly)

bk 1>2>1 (launch), time a 2, 2>2>1 , fw fw 2>1>3. 10 hits and 3/4 down. Now they nerfed teh bk 1>2>1 so that the last 1 will not launch but send the opp flying back :(

Myrsilus
08-16-2005, 12:30 PM
Ah I'm familiar with that. Glad it's been toned down as I've had it used on me a few times. I can combo pretty well, but I'm more of an interceptor and hit with a mighty blow. The strategy works pretty well. Bryan does have nice combos, though. Some can be blocked easily, though, due to his delays and recovery times.

Asuka's hot, sure, but for those of us who remember how to play Jun? Jun was taken out for a reason, kids. Severe mix-up ownage, especially since the "trademark" move can have SO much stuff buffered in to and out from it. I'm surprised that not too many people like Xiaoyu for her hit and run tactics, either. I guess that requires too much space management for your average brawler... and OH MY GOD, they brought the BANNINATED Jin moveset back, via Devil Jin.

Also, I want to see someone get DESTROYED by King's never-ending-grapple thingy.

DJEvan
08-16-2005, 01:22 PM
ahhahaha, Devil jin is good, but not good enough to be top tier.

as for king's neverending grapple, i do it on a daily basis. one trick is for his new Zangief-esque Atomic Piledriver ending multi-throw. do 3+4>1+4, 2,3,4,1 , 2,1, 1+2+3, then start mashing all 4 buttons together. you'll complete the multithrow and look like a pro :p

one more thing to note in Namco's programming, is that if you hold 2 and press 1, the AI will asume u hit 2+1 and do accordingly. my usual trick for doing 2,1, 1+2+3 for this one is to just roll my fingers across all the buttons while holding the last one. easy as pie ^^

I'm rediscovering the Metal Slug series. It's interesting because I found many analogies between Metal Slug and Gradius:

It's generally agreeed that the third in each series is the hardest and that the fifth in each series is the easiest (and seemingly the shortest)..
The last stage in the third in each series is exceedingly long.
There is a game in each series that doesn't follow the main numbering sequence (Metal Slug X in Metal Slug, Salamander in Gradius).
There are four available ship types in Gradius and four characters in Metal Slug.
Gameplay has not changed by much throughout each sequel.

I'm also struggling to find time to complete Namco × Capcom. I'm still at chapter 28 at 71 hours.

On the advice of one of my weirder friends, I aquired an .iso of DOA: Volleyball, slapped it on my Xbox's HD and played it. The amount of fanservice was excessive, I almost couldn''t handle it from the laughter. Then on teh same advice, I applied a certain patch to the game. At that point, I couldn't play anymore, I was on the floor laughing, and when one of my buddies came over and I showed it to him, he ended up snorting the coke he was drinking when he saw it. Good times.
