Hey man I think my wisdom teeth are coming out too. Althought it doesn't really hurt me much.

I'm not really sure but is it suppose to feel like your back gums are cut and ripped all the time? Also, is it suppose to hurt when you chew hard foods in the back teeth's of your mouth?

Yeah wisdom teeth are horrible to deal with. Good luck trying to eat normally. If you're lucky the surgery won't be the bad part, but the recovery can be annoying. You'll get sympathy and excluded from doing too much, though.

I don't think I need surgery. For them most part, they only hurt when I'm asking for it. By poking the part of my gum they're coming out of with my tongue, for example. :D However, my gum does bleed a lot more than it should. Even when I'm brushing my teeth, I spit blood. Slightly disturbing.

Yeah you may not require surgery, but if you do just be ready. Some dentists can make any surgery painless while others are not as adept with the needle. What I mean by this is not all dentists can accurately numb the right areas. Even the shot itself going into the gums will hurt if not aimed at the right area. I learned this from my father, who mastered the needle. Yeah, he's a dentist.

I think mine are in. Either way, I don't really care. Surgery is no big deal.

Yeah, I just got the top two removed by my dentist on Friday, no big deal as they had already erupted past the gumline. Just gotta eat soft foods for a few days, being that I have 2 depressions where my teeth used to be.

The kicker is the bottom two - I gotta go to an oral surgeon for those, cause they're barely out of the bone. Fun :(

I get to keep mine...

My dentist told me that I "had a big mouth"...

Not sure if that's a compliment or not X.X

If you have to go for surgury make sure you get all 4 out. Nothing worse than having to go BACK for the other two. But yeah, there is pain involved but it actually goes away after the surgury.

<-- Worst mouth on this board

Essentially behind some rather wierd coincidences that have culminated upon one another and in particular deal with my mouth I am about to have approx. $4000 worth of work done (that's post insurance as it's actually approx. $80,000.00 worth of work).

So for now I'm getting 17 teeth removed (had 4 pulled when I was 15 and another pulled during the last fall), having the remaining 10 teeth cleaned/fixed as much as possible in one sitting (should take approx. 16 hours with at best a novacaine drip). From there on the next visit (presumably something like 3-4 months down the line), I'll be getting some gum cleanings which means that essentially they'll be cleaning inside the gum tissue which I'm almost certain will hurt like hell, I'm hoping for another novacine drip on that one. Then hopefully within 2-4 weeks of that I'll be getting upper and lower dentures put in, this is questionable as I might just get those screw-in teeth instead as its pretty much the same money (at this time I should be able to say I'll never need to see a dentist for anything important ever again).

I'm seriously hoping things aren't as disturbingly painful as I think they'll be but the dentist has informed me that they'll be doing what they can and that if all works out they'll try to have me done with as soon as 1.5 months instead of the 2 years that a few other dentists in the area informed me it will take to do all the work that is asked (mainly because most of the dentists what to remove the teeth that need removal at a rate of 1 quadrant per 3-4 month period, then they wish to make me wait an additional year before giving me dentures or false teeth (I guess that's as good a name as any for teeth that aren't my own that are attached to the bone via screws).

Any ideas on what else might work being that I definitely need to get those 17 teeth pulled?

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth out several years ago.

My wisdom teeth were perfectly sideways, and ***HAD*** to be removed. I got all 4 done at the same time, with a general anesthetic. According to the oral surgeon, he had to split my teeth lengthwise inside my gum and then extract each half.

After the surgery, I got this water squirter thing that I had to use to squirt water into the holes to force the food out. If I didn't, the food in the whole got nasty quickly, and everything I ate tasted like rotten vinegar.

As long as you clean out the holes after the surgery, for up to a month, it isn't that painful of an ordeal.

When I was a kid, one of my older brothers got his wisdom teeth removed by general anesthetic. On the second tooth, the nurse froze the wrong one and when the dentist checked by tapping it, my brother thought he hadn't felt a thing.

The dentist then proceeded to put the plyers around the tooth and crunch. Well, needless to say, my brother was in hellish pain. The nurse left in tears and they had to get another one to help with the procedure. My brother was in agony for the following month (whether normal pain from the operation or a result of the accident I don't know).

So when my time came years later, I told the dentist he'd have a better chance me allowing him to go up through me arse to pull the teeth out than doing anything besides completly knocking me out for the procedure.

My operation went without a hitch. I felt sick for a few hours afterwards from the drugs, but that was the worst of it. I was back at work in two days.

Moral of the story: Find out where the dental assistants live BEFORE the procedure so if they do screw up, you can go to their house, numb one side of their jaw and then punch them in the other. ;)

I was the same way. I visited the dentist one time and he told me that they were in and looked good. I didn't experience any pain or discomfort or anything. My brother had all of his pulled and my mom and dad each had at least a couple pulled.

My dentist told me at my last visit that because of my good dental history, I may never have any major dental problems. That's cool because I have no desire to have root canals or crowns or anything like that. The rest of my family has had them, but I don't mind doing without.

Dentists scare me. I use my electric toothbrush three times a day, if I have to.
I don't want more teeth. Though the wisdom could be fun.
