I recently read this article in Japanese about a survey done to see how many people would admit to having cried at least once while playing a video game.

Here's my translation of the article into English and if you're bored you can watch the video at the bottom that I made in Japanese going over the article and my thoughts on it. One of my blog friends also explains that a certain genre of adult games in Japan usually makes people cry...:watson:

So...be honest now...have you cried while playing a video game before?

I don't recall that I ever have, but with some games doing very well in terms of storylines, characters, and such, I find the thought of crying while playing a video game no more or less strange than crying while watching a TV show/movie, or reading book.

Now, if you're crying because you got fragged in Halo 3, or because that mushroom totally spanked you in Mario, that's a completely different thing.

I guess I may have got something in my eye while gaming a few times. I would say it's only happened 2 or 3 times in my 15 years of gaming though.

Anime on the other hand has a bit higher success rate.

Yeah, Japanese dramas are pretty crazy too. If you ever want to feel horribly depressed and spend a day with a box of tissues, I recommend "1 litre of tears"
Maybe they make these shows so that people can feel BETTER about their shitty lives?

Yup they can and do. I get attached to my characters!

No I'm a man's man. No emotional response -- I like my entertainment dry.
