So, next I'm having two 16 year old Japanese girls live at my house for a week. I'm just kind of wondering what sort of gifts I should get them (arrival and departure) and maybe what kind of things they would like to do? They will have been in America for a week by the time they get here (I think their class is on some English super field trip), so they should be adjusted to the time change and such.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Hello.

I hope you're a woman... Heh.

I bought Frango chocolates and coffee from Marshal Field's in Chicago for the friends I visited in Japan. They liked that... Probably isn't ideal for your situation, though... How about a gift certificate for a mall or something nearby? I assume they'd like to shop while they're there...

Gift = Condoms.

Seriously though, who arranged that and what were they smoking at the time? XD

I dunno who exactly, but there's only about two guys coming in the class of 20 (plus two teachers) and one is allergic to animals.

Yes, animals.

EDIT: If it helps any, they hail from Iwate-ken.

Some people have all the luck.

Just show them some good ol' Fashion Kansasian things....

"This is a cow, this is how we milk it.... girls, this cow is very fragile, and easily scared, so I'll have you practice on me"
"Hai!"

Souvenirs from your area, if there's anything in particular... candies, maybe. Things they can take back and remember your area by.

When they first arrive
get them something they can have/use right then
like chocolate or candy ..something like that. Stickers, photoalbum (so they can fill it while they are there) cute lil orniment or some sort. And it doesnt have to be expensive.
When they leave is when you give them something from the area so they will remember their visit.

Take them shopping. They will probably be very annoyed if you don't. :P

yeeeeeeeah you guys keep fantasizing.

I'd say give them something that your area specializes in, known as "meibutsu." Sorry I don't know about the Kansas City in Kansas. If you were in Missouri, however....

I still couldn't help you.
Seriously, make a list of things that your area is known for (or something you know is famous in the states but hard to find or expensive in Japan). Another factor you might want to consider is something tangible and long-lasting that they can take home with them as a keepsake. Chocolate makes a good gift and it's a safe bet that they'll like it, but it won't last. A stuffed animal or photo album or something along those lines work better in the long-run. An article of clothing from your local (school, team, university) whatever will also do nicely (just no hats).

yeah i find that tshirts are the way to go. but it cant just be any old tshirt, gotta be something that a girl would wear (read: nothing in a size LL). I would say this might be better as a parting gift since at that point you will have seen what size they would take. Seriously, stores sell shirts in Japan (and in the states) that say stuff like "Springfield Highschool Track" for tons of money, I bet they'd like to have a "real" highschool shirt. Or maybe college stuff if your highschool doesnt do clothing ^__~

Also, if you have a TJ Maxx in your area, take them there. They will love you for it.

Being the S3HX madman that I am, then first thing came to mind was, "Threesome, totally a threesome. XD"

Beast Cancer? WTF is THAT?

"ROAAARRR!!!!111one" the beast comes out of the forest and with a gargantuan cancer cyst swellin out of it's throat, distorting it's already misshapen body, making even the nearby flora run away in fear!

You people are all thinking about this in a VERY bad way.
Why get them a gift when they come? why not until they leave, like as a "thank you for staying with us" kind of thing.

this is a good anime story in the making! lol

(no, seriously tell me how it turns out i'd like to use it in a story for my drama manga i'm doing..)

And as for the gifts, I ain't sure. Some cute trinket will do, perhaps (and i'm just assuming that if) they're not from there, something that has to do with where you're from to remember you and that place by. Also if you can treat em to a little dinner or lunch somewhere nice, I think that would be fine, any normal person would appreciate that :)

You might be surprised with their behaviour. I made friends with a Taiwanese and a Japanese girl (they were exchange students). I still email them both. They spoke perfect English and acted... well... normal. D:

Yeah, I'm with this guy. Seriously, what the heck? I doubt their parents want them staying w/ a horny 16yr old anime freak... Goodness, I hope they don't wear their uniforms...

(just guessing on the anime freak thing. I don't know you.)

It's standard practice to give gifts if YOU are the one visiting, but don't stress too much about giving them something fancy, esp as they might feel more obligated to repay you. ...On second thought...maybe that would be good... ;)

They'll probably give you something for hosting them (like a handkerchief or crackers - nothing sexy...unless you play it right) and would appreciate going shopping. Take them to American Eagle or Old Navy or someplace similar w/t-shirts that have English on them. A shirt from some imaginary high school (or your real one) is the best example so far I think.

Dude just wrap yourself up with a big oversized red ribbon. You can give them both the gift that keeps on giving.

I wish I was you. Damn you.

The only situation like that I've ever had was this one time when one of my mom's coworkers came to see her after she was in the hospital. She was 20-something, and she was kinda attractive. I didn't know she was there because I was blasting Iron Maiden too loud and didn't know anybody was here. I came up the stairs whilst scratching my balls and turned around to see them. I was still scratching my balls. I said, "Hey." I then got a bottle of water and went back down to the basement and continued to play Iron Maiden too loud.

Sorry I don't have any advice. Even without the naughty stuff, it would be so cool to have a couple of Japanese girls come to my house and stay for a week.

Forgot to address this one.

Yes, I will...to a certain degree. >.> I'm only halfway through third level Japanese, and I'm a lot better on paper than in speech.

Mostly because I never speak it. >.>

じゃあ、もっと練習しましょうか。彼女達が来てからその人の前で日本語だけ話してみて下さい。

(well then, let's practice some more, shall we? When the girls come try to only speak Japanese in front of them.)

Maybe some kind of plush toy when they are leaving, and don't bother with a Welcome Here gift, because I consider that lame, just give them a really good meal, something thats uncommon and they might not have tried but try to go with varriety just incase they don't like something in particular.
