I'm looking for a few good books on science pertaining to space / the universe and universal mechanics (quantum mechanics are fine too).

If anyone knows of a good book (or a few good books) that explain / explore some theories, then I would appreciate some authors and titles. I tried google, but all I get is that '<name> for dummies' and various journals, but I'd prefer one big fat book instead of loads.

Carlos Calle- Superstrings and Other Things
JM Overduin and PS Wesson- Dark Sky, Dark Matter
MY Han- A Story of Light: A Short Introduction to Quantum Field Theory of Quarks and Leptons

Of the three, I'd recommend Dark Sky, Dark Matter as it deals entirely with astrophysics. Superstrings is one of those mega ~700 page textbooks that hits everything, but does a pretty good job of it. Story of Light is exactly what it sounds like.
