At the Coachella festivle in California another incident happened that amused me more than the, "Don't Tase Me Bro!" incident. This is, of course, the tasing of the naked wizard.
I'm sure there is someone out there or here who would argue against the police use of the taser, but I believe the officers were in every right to do what they did to the man.
They were kind, polite and begging the man to put his clothes back on. Obviousy the crowed of fucking hippies didn't know that public nudity is against the law with the obvious chants of, "He isn't doing anything wrong!" and "Booooooo!" and at the very end, "The whole world is watching!"
The police did everything that they were supposed to do according to procedure step by step and I'm sure there will still be people out there crying, "Police Brutality!"
The Naked Wizard got tazed.

At first I thought the title was "Don't Tease the Naked Wizard." For some reason, I think that probably would have been a more interesting story. But this was still pretty good.

So what makes him a wizard, then? Because he looks more like a retarded man.
A retarded man with a microphallus.
edit: Why the christ is the crowd taking that guy's side? Who the fuck wants that in their midst? I know, personally, I'd find "Naked Wizard" to ruin the party atmosphere.

The whole thing is pretty dumb, though I can't really fault the police officers for their actions, while I think the officers were in the wrong in the "Don't tase me bro" scenario. I'm not a fan of tasers being used so willy-nilly (lol) in general however.

Why is everyone so against tasing? It's much better for the health of the suspect and the officers to tase someone then to yank around their arms violently to put them in restraints(and that's assuming the situation doesn't become violent.) Even as he was getting tased he was still shouting "it's the most beautiful thing."
Did he remind anyone of Tobias Funke from Arrested Development? His Voice was dead on, except Tobias is deathly afraid of being naked.

He should be lucky they tolerated his nonsense for as long as they did. The crowd is stupid. Freedom of speech? They weren't arresting him for his words, they were arresting him for public indecency.
If he was truly the naked wizard, he'd throw some magic on that vagina he calls a penis.
What I thought was odd is the effect that taser didn't seem to have. They ran that on him a couple of times. I expected a drop and plead. Nope.
Tobias? Haha. If only he had the cut-offs...he really should have had them...for us and him.

How is being tasered better for the health of the suspect than an arm bar/lock? There have been muliple studies suggesting that the former can be, at the very least, a contributing or secondary cause of death (I believe most taser-related deaths get passed off as something called "excited delirium," which is a questionable diagnosis), whereas I've never heard of such a thing for the latter. There was also a study done by the American Journal of Cardiology that showed no change in the amount of officer injuries when tasers were used.
Though for the record, I'm entirely pro-taser. I just think that saying it's safer for the health of the suspect than a simple cuffing or takedown is silly.

The guy in the "dont tase me bro" video has a whole website of himself pulling stupid crap like that, he was even selling merchandise. He WANTED the cops to pull something, the cops were playing into his hands and he made money off of it.

The whole point of the taser is to reduce deaths and injuries in law enforcement. If they are safe or not is debatable and I really don't want to get into.
Also how can you be pro-taser if you believe they don't prevent officers or suspects from getting injured?

If you watch carefully you'll see, right before they pull out the taser, the drugged out naked man grab a handfull of the officer's balls. Like...iron grip handful.
I think I understand why he used the taser.

I call inner thigh on that one, and you don't hear the policemen cry out, so I assume there wasn't any malicious intent in the grab either.

The whole point of the taser is to reduce deaths and injuries in law enforcement.
Then you probably should have said that instead of:
It's much better for the health of the suspect and the officers to tase someone then to yank around their arms violently to put them in restraints
Are you really going to argue that it's safer to be tasered than it is to have your arm yanked? Speaking in broad, general terms, which include violent situations, yes, a taser is better for the health of the suspect, and is certainly safer than, you know, being shot, but it's certainly not safer than the example you gave. That was all I was saying, nothing more. Though I should add, most tasered suspects also suffer the same minor injuries (scrapes, cuts, bruises) as ones taken down without tasers.
If they are safe or not is debatable and I really don't want to get into.
I would think that their questionable safety would be of importance here, but all right.
Also how can you be pro-taser if you believe they don't prevent officers or suspects from getting injured?
Because they're still a better alternative than a gun or pepper spray, when you need a non-lethal takedown. And while there's no conclusive evidence that they're safer than unarmed takedowns, they are still generally faster and easier. Either way, when it comes to the safety of the officers, I prefer to err on the side of caution, with or without conclusive proof. I've never seen anything to suggest that using them is actually more dangerous for the officers, so I'm fine with their continued use. That, and I really just don't care if criminals (edit: or suspects) get tasered.

A tribute to the mentality of the modern protester: Stand in a big circle and give moral support to the one guy actually practicing civil disobedience without directly participating yourself. I think it's funny and sad at the same time that the crowd was willing to boo the police so vehemently, and yet you didn't see anybody else disrobing, or even so much as removing their shirts. Personally, I think that if you don't care enough to do it yourself, you should stay out of the way and keep your mouth shut.
Also, the naked guy was obviously high as a kite.

I was thinking that too MNJetter. It seemed ridiculous that they just stood there watching and catcalling. It also bothered me that they thought it was perfectly alright to stand there naked. I'm a fan of the human body, doesn't mean I want to randomly see it at a music festival.

I've nothing against public nudity, if it is genuinely for the sake of personal freedom and not due to sexual deviance (there's the rub, eh? How do you tell the two apart without being really subjective about it?). Personally, I wouldn't walk around naked in public. Pavement is hot, thighs chafe, and you have no pockets to put your keys in. ;)

Actually, the cops were a lot more patient than I would have expected given the crowds around and the potential for it to turn ugly.

The next time people have a complaint and don't follow rules 1 and 3, the thread will simply be locked, and the offending members will be warned.
I thought the cops were incompetent. They kept falling over when they tried to restrain the guy. They thought they could somehow put clothes on him. They escalated the situation. They never had control of the situation. They kept thinking their size would intimidate the guy into compliance and they did not know what to do when their strategy failed.
Jetsetlemming

They escalated the situation
No they didn't. The escalation of tactics for the cops were all dependant entirely on the naked wizard. They tried to get him to put his clothes back on, he refused. So they tried to arrest him, and he resisted. They tried to forcibly cuff him and he fought back. So they tazed him (pain compliance technique), and he struggled and grabbed at the one guy's belt. So they tazed him a bunch more times until finally he rolled his ass over and let them cuff him.
If anything they took too long to get serious with the drugged out naked guy. The whole time they're pussyfooting around he's still naked in public and attracting more and more attention.
The pussyfooting around was a part of their incompetence. They took way to long to handle the situation.
