Someone told me that glasses (the everyday normal things that sit on the bridge of your nose that allows you to see), are a fetish in Japan. Is this true?? I hope not... Because if it is, I may be wearing contacts to Japan when I go there. Unless that fetish has changed in a year.

There are people who have a glasses fetish, and its not limited to just Japan. In fact, a glasses fetish (particularly with the complete image of a bookworm type) is quite popular all over the world, I assure you.

*gasp* I never knew that! Glasses are stylish, sometimes... But I always thought of them as dorky! Maybe because I have been wearing them my whole life...

The right glasses on the right person can look stunning. I'm not a fetishist of any kind (thank goodness!), but I'll definitely say that glasses, like any other accessory, can have a strong impact.

Morning Musume's Love Machine PV has a nice scene with all of the girls in glasses. They do look hot.

See? Proof of the glasses thing.

Personally, dark-rimmed glasses are really nice on women, I think. Frameless glasses tend to look better on men than women. Sharp business woman with a classy set of glasses is very nice, yes, but you underestimate the power of casual glasses, too. A nice set of glasses pushed up on the head makes for a really playful casual look.

You don't like glasses? That's rare, actually.

Imagine a a glamour shot in a mag like GQ. Fireplace with a cozy fire, a leather reading chair, with a Victorian style Ottoman. On it is a nice white male, short and somewhat dissheveled dirty blonde hair, blue eyes behind a pair of silver-framed glasses, wearing an off-beige button down cardigan with a pastel shirt underneath, and a pair of blue jeans with a plain brown leather belt, all while reading an old, leather bound book. Classic meets casual and contemporary.

Take away the glasses, and a large part of that picture's 'casual intellectual' image becomes hazy.

Glasses make excellent accessories.

Hahahaa! That is a veeeery nice visual, Spaik. Glasses can be nice in some cases. In my caaase... It's just dorky. Thick glasses, thick black frames... *sigh*

thick prescriptions are not as much a limitation as they used to be. You'd be surprised at just the types of styles you can get for glasses. Glasses are an important accessory to your image and fashion. If you don't like them, think about replacing them with ones that suit you better.

I used to wear a really ugly pair of glasses until I got fed up and saved up some money to get a nice pair of frameless ones. Light as hell, too. Very comfortable. I think larger prescriptions might be better to get in a frameless type, just because frameless lenses are thicker in the first place, but I'm not certain if there's a certain limitation on frameless glasses lens thickness or not.

I wouldn't limit it to just Japanese. It just happens that Japanese porn tends to be very popular, especially over the internet for some reason. Everyone knows that Japanese porn is censored and is generally shit. Just ask Az.

As for fetish thing, yeah, ALL OVER THE WORLD, there is every kind of fetish imaginable. I wouldn't attribute it to anything unique to Japan, persay. It just happens that Japanese porn tends to focus more on fetishes than American. Porn is not a good measure of sexual preferences.

Isn't it a big problem for many Japanese to wear glasses? Many girls have small ears and especially small noses (at least my girlfriend has a cute small nose) but it can't carry glasses easily. It keeps sliding slowly of the girls nose.

Correct me if i'm wrong. :)

She's getting bad glasses then. Glasses will fit well and properly if they were sized and fitted correctly for her face. Every face is different and they have glasses for every shape and size. One shouldn't select glasses frames that aren't made for your face shape if you can't wear them comfortably. If she's really having problems with nose sliding, go for an ultra-lightweight frameless style with hooked style ends and she won't ever have a problem with her glasses sliding down again.

I'm rather fond of glasses myself.

But I've never gotten a vibe that Japanese men like glasses. They like a lot of stuff, a lot of stuff they shouldn't, but I never really noticed a glasses fetish.

spaik
10-06-2005, 04:21 PM
I think its because glasses are a very universal fetish and are not as noticable to you as say, the whole schoolgirl wheelchair thing.

That and glasses are so commonplace.

Certainly, it isn't the MOST prevailent fetish for the Japanese male but I bet it's still at least as popular as it is for North Americans. I'd be willing to bet that you could find more than a fair share who like glasses girls, especially if they prefer cute or shy girl types. I don't think that the glasses and powersuit wearing business woman look would be too popular, however...

I wore my glasses in Japan, and no one hit on me. lol Though there was that one woman that I had a staring contest w/ on the train... But she looked more angry and annoyed than anything else.

Those glasses are very, very nice.

I would probably get a new pair of glasses, but my prescription is SOOO heavy that it makes them so darn expensive! And all of the cheap frames look like they came from the 70's and 80's or something.

I think someone should post a hot looking woman with tight business suit and glasses- or any hot looking girl with glasses, for that manner.

Remember that cliché in movies, when a rather plain looking girl takes off her glasses, and everyone think she's hot, minus the glasses? The other way around for me. Nicole Kidman in "Eyes Wide Shut" with those glasses was.............. *wipes off the drool* That movie sucked though, for a Kubrick film.

I don't have a 'fetish' with women wearing glasses. However, I do prefer them over people with normal eyesights, or who choose to wear contacts. I prefer women with glasses to the point that I don't care if my children end up looking like owls :D

It's a relatively well-known music video by a group of girls known as Momusu or Morning Musume. Nothing icky or dirty about it... it's clean in comparison to US music videos by female groups.

I'm not blind... I know they're not identical, but they seem like the same sort of style to me. lol

And I was trying to find a decent sized picture of Matsu Takako wearing glasses from 'Hero,' but I couldn't... I did find out that a lot of sites sell the same kind of glasses she wore. I guess they might be kind of popular. They were oval wireframes. 「松たか子のHeroでかけたすすめめがね」 or something like that. Heh.

I had the opposite impression when I was there; contacts seem much more common than glasses. One obvious example I can think of is the movie Waterboys, where the girls from the girls-only high school all take off their glasses when they talk to the boys, then put them back on again to see the show (it's a nice film, watch it and see what I'm talking about). I have a bunch of anecdotes similar to this.

Fetishes are pervasive, and there are probably glasses fetishist in Japan; but it's not that popular from what I've seen.

think so? i can't stand my contacts. too much of a pain in the ass to put in, take out, and clean all the time. i'd much rather just grab my glasses on the go. the only time i even wear my contacts now is during contact sports, or when i need to wear goggles or visors.

besides, contacts can't be used as an accessory (well, i guess you can get colored lenses, but i think they are hella weird and creepy looking) like glasses can.

Henjin
10-06-2005, 07:59 PM
I'm way too lazy for contacts. I'd go blind if I ever tried to wear them. Glasses are easier, and I don't consider myself vain enough to go for contacts just for looks. (I understand if you need them for sports/job, though)

I like 'em... Alot of people here said they did too. In fact, the majority here did... But I don't think the people here are representative of the majority of people in the US or the world. That said, I don't like people who wear glasses just to wear glasses. If you need them, wear them, and they can look nice. But if you don't, that's just weird.

Well, I got glasses in 7th grade and I honestly thought it was the end of the world as I knew it. But then I just got contacts like...a year later. But the point is that I had these ugly-ass glasses frames until like...last year. And now I got new ones and I love them. I'd totally wear them everyday if they didn't give me headaches after prolonged wearing. :-P (Not, they're not malfitted/perscribed, having weight on my ears like that gives me a headache. Weird, I know.)

Haha, so apparently there was an entire page of posts that I just totally didn't read before I posted and the edit button is too far away. So uhm...2nd post!

Contacts contacts contacts. What can I say about them? They're awesome. They have their setbacks, but you do get used to them. But if I listed them, you'd probably be like "...why would I want to learn how to blink differently just so I don't have to wear glasses?", but I really think they have about the same hassle attached to them as glasses.

Glasses = easy to break. Even though you can rip contacts if you're not careful, at least no one else can break them for you. I'd rather be mad at myself than mad at some dude who stepped on my specs. And I can't seem to whip my head around really fast if I'm wearing glasses. Like...I can, but if I decided to have a seizure, they would seriously go flying. If contacts are well fitted, they'll stay in there. And if you get whacked in the face a lot like me (ironically, it's me whacking my own face on accident) it sucks it get whacked and have your glasses fall on the floor or something and get all scratched out. I'm not very...articulate, but my point is sort of that I never got used to wearing something on my face, contacts make it so that I don't really have to change my routine in terms of bodily gestures. Jeez, I should take a communications class so I can learn to talk to you people in understandable english. Dammit.

I guess its all about the lense, frame, and shape. So, the whole glass part of the glasses matters... if that makes sense. Pretty much, circular glasses + thick frames = bad, new age glasses (ie once they got past the whole "hey they need their vision corrected" to the "lets make these look good") = win.

Am I the only person who can't wear glasses for reading or using a computer?

I have to wear glasses when driving, and I usually wear them when I am going to be walking anywhere outside, but if it is within 2-3 feet of my face, I usually have to take my glasses off.

I haven't checked if I can get contacts, but if they have the same perscription as my glasses, I couldn't use them.

Henjin

It probably depends on your prescription. I'm far-sighted... Whatever that means. But I do need my glasses for the computer. For awhile, I thought my eyesight was getting worse, but it turns out my monitor was blurry. I'm not kidding. It's out of focus or something. I'm using it as my secondary monitor now, but it's still hard to read stuff off it.
