Just curious what operating system everyone uses(ex. Windows XP). I use Windows XP myself, though its a piece of crap.

XP. It's simple, easy and it looks good. I wouldn't use it if I had the attention span to use something else though.

Depends on what computer. At home I use XP mostly but do have an old computer with win3.1.

At work I have win NT, Windows 2000, linux (fedora I think) and Irix

Windows XP

But I used to go to my old high school's computer lab and pretty much mess with Mac OS X so often as if it was my other computer, lol.

I'm thinking about switching to Linux. It's very well known as a "Hacker OS"..... And it can come in handy.....

I've got Linux on a few computers, most namely the laptop I take to school.
That runs Damn Small Linux, a really great distro.

Meanwhile, my server runs XP home, which is funny, but my main pc is Vista.
It's OK, not the best and not the most stable, but hell, it's fun. I have a dual boot into XP pro if it's needed. Right now, XP - wanted to play CS : S, it can sometimes have problems for me.

I use XP Pro on home and work PC and occasionally OSX on the Macs at work if I ‘have’ to.

XP all the way baby!! Though it is a pain in the butt. I'd use 98, if it didn't BSOD so damned much.

Windows 2000. I'd switch to Linux in a heartbeat, but I'm a slave to Gates due to the fact that I enjoy playing games on my computer. Anyone know if WINE is any good for playing recent game releases?

XP pro, I've got a copy of XP x64 in the mail as well, but I wont have the right drivers for it, so I'm going to have to install it as a dual boot on my new system.

I own several different distrobutions of linux, I've owned just about every version of windows from dos/3.1 all the way up to XP x64 now.

Almost switched to mac a few weeks ago, was really tempting, especially with a 17% discount for military, and a 500$ rebate off logic pro (plus the 17%) but alas, the bastards don't ship to FPO so they didn't get my money.

Perhaps someday... wouldn't mind going all linux either, but I need something comparable to Sonar 5 but on linux to be able to do that.

Win ME all the way.....

And no I am not kidding.

The beauty about using the red headed stepchild of Microsoft is that nobody makes viruses to target it. Also believe it or not, I have a stable copy.

You have no idea how much more hot that statement just made you :P

My server and desktop both run gentoo linux, with the desktop dualbooting into windows for games.

Primarily XP. Have my system setup with seperate hard drives dual booting with SuSE Pro 9.3 (Linux). Also work with Win2k3 Server. Would have Red Hat AS setup, but don't want to have to deal with an extra red hat network subscription just to have a sandbox.

of the various distro's of Linux and BSD, I've pretty much settled on SuSE as a good all around distro for useability, installability, and hardware support...though the fact that they don't have ISO's available via FTP is a pain in the arse.

Since we can only pick one, it'll have to be XP since that's where I spend most of my time.

Oh yeah...have Vista beta on a laptop at work...will likely be playing with it some tomorrow. Will likely drop Longhorn into a VMWare session.

XP/98SE dual boot.

98SE because old games roxalot and dosbox isnt always up to scratch.

Linux is essentially for people with way too much time on their hands.

"Anyone know if WINE is any good for playing recent game releases?"

No, not really. I managed to get WoW and Daoc to run at various points using cedega, but it's definately that square peg, round hole experience. Those games don't even push the limits either. Qemu with the accelerator works fairly well for booting windows in a.... window and running office apps.. or running several windows version at one for tech support. Might run solitaire :p

Gentoo and Win2k here linked with synergy2 (http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/) I love that program.

LMAO, didn't know that using linux could be hot! But hey, I'll take it :D.
So yeah, my ex used to have linux on his laptop, which I used to use all the time (had to download my anime on something :p), so I just learned how to use it. I have no idea what version he had, but it was cool. I liked using it sometimes more than Windows.

Cedega(formerly Winex) can run all of the Valve Source games and many others, but you're supposed to pay $5 a month for the membership to download new versions. Otherwise, Wine is kicking ass if you feel like messing with it.

Also, I've been running pure Linux for years now. I'm currently on Gentoo and enjoying it much. Yay for dual monitors and KDE.

I have stupid Windoze XP on the desktop at home, OS 9.3 on my laptop and OS X and Linux(Ubuntu and Kubuntu) on my boyfriend's laptop, which I have an account on.

OSX 10.4.2 on my main machine (Dual 2GHz G5, dual monitors). XP SP2 on my laptop, which I generally try to use only when I'm on the road or when the school's wireless is acting up and the Mac's card isn't registering (which is a fault of the network, not a fault of the card in this case...)
