Anxiety disorder not real? O.o Having lived with someone when I was younger who had anxiety attacks all the time, I'm going to have to say it's real. I inherited that person's anxiety (I wouldn't consider it very bad anxiety) and I can't even drive a freaking car because of it and had panic attacks in car and plane rides. -.- I am anxious of a lot of things. It used to be worse when I was younger. I don't consider myself a loser for it though. You just gotta think better about yourself first of all to overcome some things.
Fufu told me (for my anxiety so maybe it can help you) that if you talk to others with the same problem it can help you. Like go to a place where they have these meetings and help each other out to overcome their problems, by talking it out. No one will judge one another since they all have the same problem.

You shouldn't be worried about seeing a doctor for anxiety. No one will think less of you, everyone has problems. If you have a problem with anxiety and psychology therapy hasn't helped, then you need medication. Don't even bother telling your mom if you don't want to, your old enough to go on your own to see your family doctor. There is NOTHING to feel ashamed of.
If you don't sort this out soon, your life will just get worse and worse. Seriously, if you have anxiety over what people on OP9 think of you, then you definitely have some sort of social anxiety disorder.

Orange, you're a guy, right? Anxiety usually manifests itself in the late teens or early twenties for guys, and there are a variety of treatments. Counseling, exposure therapy, meds. It could be chronic, recurrent or, like a phobia, limited to one situation.
Having kids in Japan, without a support system and with everyone always looking at and touching my "kawaii haafu chirudoren" lifted my stress levels high enough to trigger panic attacks. Now I have a very mild sedative called Depasu that I can take if I have a panic attack. Just knowing that I have it has been enough to cancel the need to take it for the last 2 years.
See your doctor. If you're a minor, talk to your mom. If you're in college, go to the campus health center. Hell, they even provide free counseling from grad students...

Well, do you know what is causing you to be anxious in the first place? If you can find out the cause then it might be better to work out a plan/solution to overcome that problem, so you are not anxious so much.

So, the doctor wrote me a prescription for an ssri, but I'm afraid its going to mess up my ability to think clearly and learn. I mean, it is interfering with my brain and might have unforeseen consequences down the road. I don't want to regret this later. So, although I have the prescription filled, I'm afraid to take them. I've been reading about them, and I'm not certain what to do.
If your doctor wrote you the prescription, you'll be fine.

But they're so cute.
So, I was prescribed xanax and I have to go back to the doctor's in a week.
For research purposes would you mind telling me what you told the doctor?
I've always dealt with my anxiety and depression with reasoning and shit, but mostly illicit drug use. I find philosophy helps a lot, if you can't prove anything outside of your mind exists and in a certain amount of time nothing you or anyone you've ever known will matter, why worry about anything? Really, life is basically a shit video game, no reason to stress over design flaws. Fuck it, go bowling, have unprotected sex with prostitutes, plug gack, everything is irrelevant and doesn't really matter. That term paper? Promotion at work? Spouse cheating on you? Won't mean shit when you're dead. Nothing else will either.
Edit: Just saw the SSRI thing. In my experience the way they cure you is to numb you of all emotions. If being a pseudo zombie sounds fun to you go for it. I honestly can't say I was unhappy on them other than how lithium kind of makes you shart a lot.

I hope you're being sarcastic there.
