All i can say is, hate and sorrow can corrupt your morale, dont let that happen. Always remember what good men do. Merry Christmas and good luck.

Don't do anything I wouldn't do; which includes, but is not limited to: killing, maiming, torturing, raping, or not asking and not telling.

*Salutes* Another soldier out there to do what soldiers do. As most of the people have said here, keep your morale high. Especially since you're infantry, you're gonna need it.. that and motivation. Hope you return safely and tell us how it was in the ole Sand Box.
Also, drop a line from time to time if you get the chance. I know when I was down there, they had little morale tents where you could access the net/use phones and stuff to contact family or just dork around on the net.

I wish you luck, but considering some of your comments you've made in the past regarding your views on whats ok in wartime situations and so on, I also fear greatly for you. And hope Obama pulls the soldiers out of Iraq before you do something stupid.

Don't get your hopes up... I've heard something on the order of 16 months and then it'll just be Afghanistan instead of Iraq... =/
Kannon
12-05-2008, 10:47 PM
...just be Afghanistan...
Just be Afghanistan? Yeah fyi, it's not fucking Disney World up there.
Trump
12-08-2008, 11:23 PM
So... the smily wasn't enough to let you know I didn't think Afghanistan was any better than Iraq?
Kannon
12-08-2008, 11:43 PM
Nope. "=/" just implies disappointment, and in the context of your post, made it seem like Afghanistan was a disappointing alternative, as if it wasn't good enough to go to war there.

Nevermind, I see the error in my interpretation. The joys of reading the english language on the internet with out its emphasis. I was reading, "...JUST Afghanistan..." when the entire statement was saying 16 mos (which is longer that usual, at least for our states ARNG deployments) and even if not to Iraq, we'll still have Afghanistan. My apologies.
Trump
12-09-2008, 05:16 PM
It does imply disappointment. It means I'm disappointed we have a military effort going on in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Kannon
12-09-2008, 10:58 PM
Sure, but that wasn't the disappointment to which I was referring.

Remember to treat your medics right, and be careful around the Fobbits. ALWAYS try to stay current on your medical training. I cannot stress that enough!
I'm going to guess you are at the base in Balad (used to be known as Anaconda). From what I've heard, a mortar could hit one end of the base and you wouldn't even know it on the other it was so big.

Yeah I'm more in the Baghdad area actually.
The doc is one of us man. We always treat him right :), and we haven't had any problems with the fobbits, but we have heard stories of some stupid shit going on from the unit we're replacing. Like this one sgt major who will chase you out the gate in a Bradley to punish you for not wearing your seatbelt .

You didn't think Sgt Major's actually do stuff, did you? (Besides find esoteric regulations in AR 670-1 to harp you on)

Once you hit SGM, you're cruising the plane between retirement and staying in. A lot of SGMs are so bored that they'll do some dumb shit just to pass the time. Most of the SGMs I've seen were put in office positions and basically told to sit and wait. Probably the only exception to the rule are CSMs since their area of responsibility are mostly the 1SGs and NCO's of the unit (could be different from Infantry but from what I've seen, they're pretty much the super NCO that heads all the other Senior and Junior NCOs). If I had all that rank, time and lack of activity in my day, I would probably be BSin' and nitpicky myself.

Medic is the way to go. You are everybody's darling.
I've been trying to get somewhere for FOREVER. I've volunteered a couple of times and tried to transfer to another unit I knew was going over. But luck has not been on my side.

It pains me to say it, but I think that Navy will probably win next year. This years game was just sad
