It's freehand (well freemouse, if that is even a term) in Photoshop off a photo. I've got 2 others, but while they were 'from scratch' too, I had the original photo on a second layer in Photoshop that I flashed on and off to get things exact. Because of that, they look really realistic (to me, at least), but I guess that's kind of cheating. So I started a completely freehand one to see what I could do. That's the one I posted.
EDIT: Oh yeah, thanks. lol

Everyone's got nice artwork. What I'm trying to get at is pencil shading and photoshop work.
What I need, though, is Photoshop. Henjin, where'd you get yours?

they're very nice, and the wacom drivers have a lot of customizable options. It's just like drawing with a pen, it just takes some getting used to seeing what you draw on a screen instead of paper.

Yeah... That's what I hear. I really gotta find someone who has one, or a store where you can try them out. I don't want to put down the money w/out having any idea of whether I'll be comfortable w/ it or not.

Bernie Mac = Bernie Yao (Asian Sensasian of Satisfaction)

Well the following posts are what i have loaded online...I haven't really done anything in a good while, I'm lacking in insperation and motivation lately and i need both to work, and when i do get hit by them they leave me as quickly as they came. :(
These are just some randome things i did.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v455/Jynx_lucky_j/Art/Reikko.jpg
Reiko - A character idea i had awhile back of an ex-assassin. He trys to live a normal life though killing is all he knows, and he is hunted by his form comrades.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v455/Jynx_lucky_j/Art/Charcoal_Unicorn.jpg
Charcoal Unicorn - This is my first and only attempt at charcoal and was copied from some picture i found on the net. I gave it to my Mom for her birthday.

This number of picture per post limit is annoying...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v455/Jynx_lucky_j/Art/Klive-Origin.jpg
Original Klive - Klive is just about my favorite character i've ever created. Essentially He is a good(ish) guy, that wants to take over the world. Altough in his first in carnation he was just a hardened mercenary and Known as Klive of the Ethereal Owl. Notice the design on his armor.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v455/Jynx_lucky_j/Art/Klive-the-Crimson-Blaze.jpg
Klive the Crimson Blaze - The hardened mercanry thing really wasn't doing it for me, i needed something grander. Enter world domination, but that was to plain. So i tristed the typical idea of a conqorer by making him a good guy. Klive of the Ethereal Owl sounded to wussy for a future world dominator so enter Klive the Crimson Blaze
I used to play D&D (still would if i had people to play with) so all my character have full stories XD

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v455/Jynx_lucky_j/Art/Chibi-Klive.jpg
Chibi Klive - It's Chibi Klive! Oh my god he sooo cute!!! :D This is my first Chibi art ever. I wanted to try something differant and didn't feel up to doing something complicated. Although this eneded up taking along time anyways because i had trouble keeping it simple like a chibi should be. Its still more detailed that alot of chibis would be, but i couldn't make it any simpler and still be happy with it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v455/Jynx_lucky_j/Art/Chibi-Klive-COLOR.jpg
Color Chibi Klive - Oh my god, he's even cuter in color! My first attempt at CG coloring. I chose Chibi Klive because it was simple and (theoreticly) i wouldn't be able to screw it up.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v455/Jynx_lucky_j/Art/Dweiafinnished.jpg
Chibi Dweia - This one i did on request for a friend in FFXI. It my second Chibi art and the only request i've ever done (remember what i said about needing both insperation and motivation? that why i don't normally do request). We're in a roleplaying linkshell, so rather take a carbon copy of her model i personalised it a bit to make her a unique chraracter.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v455/Jynx_lucky_j/Art/ChibiDweiacolor.jpg
Color Chibi Dweia - Same thing but in color. The background is a (color enhanced) statue of the Goddess Altana from the Hall of the Gods, cuase she a preistess. The thing that drives me crazy though is the line art is so pixelated. And with my at the time limited photoshop skills i could not do anything to fix it...maybe i'll try again when i get home...

10-09-2005, 10:08 AM
Ok final one...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v455/Jynx_lucky_j/Art/Elvaan-female.jpg
Elvaan Female Thats right Elvaan, as in Final Fantasy XI. I was visiting my family back home, and my brother asked be how i draw like i do (he has no artistic talent) and my wife expresed intrest as well (can do some pretty cute landscapes). Normally i don't like people watching me draw, but i made and exception. I did this in maybe 10 min explaining it as i went. ...i dont think they acually got anything from it though
And thats all i have stored online. I might put up more when i get a new computer and scanner.

the trick is to deside on a light source
if, lets say, the light source is coming from the right side of an object, then on the left you will have shade
that is the most basic thing about it
on a car its a little more complicated, because the surface of the car is bent, the light bends also and the shades could be almost anywhere on it
if you dont understand i could make a small tutorial

For some reason, The Laughing Man, I have my doubts. That work on the forums and then the hyperlinked work are two completely different artists and techniques. I'm not completely doubting you, it's just I was expecting to run across a "snatch" in one of these threads sooner or later.

So in short you're saying that I STOLE these images, correct?
First off, before you make such insinuations, take into consideration that I can easily question everyone else's posted artwork here, but I don't and I don't make the same insinuations as you because I'm not a moron.
I only question an artwork that's posted when I am ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE that I've seen the artwork before, and it was posted by someone else, and even then, I'd verify with the person who posted first - for COURTESY.
As proof, here's the original line art I drew for that collaboration (from my Photobucket account):

Follow Up (sorry MODS, my browser keeps freezing when I use the REPLY or EDIT options. Doesn't happen with the Quick Reply though...)
Kackle, if you think I stole these because of the difference in drawing style, it's because I was using a slightly modified drawing style of Haruhiko Mikimoto (Macross, Gunbuster) for my older artworks. The more recent artworks are more influenced by Masmune Shirow (Ghost In The Shell, Appleseed), thus the big difference.

Sculpture, specifically clay sculpture, is one of the mediums that I enjoy the most. The following is a concept sketch I did of a gargoyle (inspired by the Disney animated show Gargoyles)

Guess who's back...back again...
Being the bored little monkey that I am, I've scanned some more of my stuff.
Not that I wish to show off or anything, it's just that most people don't get to see my work that often (I'm usually very humble about my work...honestly ^_^). Enjoy biatches...
Here is the first of three parts:
It's a Dragon tatoo design that I did for a friend a few months back. He kept pestering me to do a drawing for him (I hate when people do that when they know you can draw) and this is what I came up with. And if you're wondering, he DID go through with it and had my design tatooed on his body. (His first tatoo ever...craziness I say) It stretches from his upper chest above the heart and goes over his shoulder and wraps around his left arm ending about mid-forearm. My friend was inspired to do this from an asian crime drama series "Young and Dangerous". The lead character has a similar setup. And no, he didn't do it because he's a fanboy. Its just one of the things that he eventually wanted to do in life. One of my nicknames for him now is "Triad boy". He shall forever be branded with my artwork....haha...sucker...lol

And finally...the tail:

Looks cool, but I would never get a tattoo...
And I like your drawing, jimmyjindo. Actually reminds me of some of my stuff... I was scrolling down the page and said 'I don't remember posting that.' Heh.

That's awesome, Omega. I would love to get a tat, but I'm not so sure if it is worth it. The pain is also a big factor. I've felt quick, horrible pain before (Dislocation of arm in martial arts, head against a solid surface, etc...) but prolonged pain seems pretty extreme.
But awesome deisgn.

My friend told me that it hurt when the tatoo was being applied on the sensitive areas of his body like his collar bone and underarm. And also when the needle first breaks the skin or when the tatoo artist has to go over the same area. Other than that you eventually become numb to it and all you feel are the vibrations.
I on the other hand, would never consider getting one.

Not very recent, I was doing this back in... god, Christmas '02? While on an employment course (which I had to do every year on the dole; never helped me get work, mind you, they're completely useless unless you're a school-leaver or cute woman, or like one woman in this group, your uncle is the drug baron of Gympie) I got bored and was sketching lots of things... I did this:
http://www.netaccess.com.au/~domino/Transformers/Hikaru1.jpg
for something I was doing at the time... it was kind of a steampunk-anime feel I was going for. Giant steam-powered robots in a very 18th/19th century european nation-feel... this character was from outside this planet, though, and had advanced technology. Had the story down, couldn't get the mechs looking right, so I gave up. That's a pull-up breathing mask around her neck, too.
For now, anyway. Drawing is in ink (nikko pen, my usual medium) and coloured with a cheap set of felts I got while on lunch. Don't usually colour my pics.

Everyone's got nice drawings.
Anyways, here it is, more artwork from Vocab, le garcon/homme. This is supposed to be some kind of project for French, but I'm putting it here so I can gloat how awesome I am. Haha.
The project is called "Cosplay Groove," where a guy named Jaques loses his job because he embarassed his company cosplaying, so he moves out of town and goes out to find a new job, and on his way, he meets up with people who's got the same taste for cosplaying.
Funny, eh?
Anyways, here it is, just a "promoting" thing we had to do in French. We're doing an advertising project for French, and right now it seems about finished.

Forgot to say this at the time... I had a friend who had one done on her ribs following the curve of her breast (and a bit up onto the fleshy bit on the side). It was a very pretty tattoo and she was very impressed by it. When she showed it to me, I said it would have hurt like hell, but she disagreed and said she felt like it was almost a low-level orgasm for the whole time the needle was doing its work.

Actually no it wasnt, but thanks for saying it looked good anyway, this is the only CG stuff I have up online at the moment, made it back in 2003 at Uni, we had an animation assignment, while the previous year got to do anything they like, we had to create an animation of a inanimate object, so I chose to do a toy and create a plastic texture for it, had trouble rigging the character for animation so created a more simple model of a Toy Robot and had to use that instead, but I didnt like that model so showed this one instead.

Here's a sketch [Link (http://ic1.deviantart.com/fs9/i/2006/035/7/8/Centaur_Sketch_by_Fallen13Angel.jpg)] and a lineart I did [Link (http://ic1.deviantart.com/fs9/i/2006/060/a/d/Alchemist_by_Fallen13Angel.jpg)]. The lineart is recent (last week) and the sketch is from a couple of months ago.
I'm not as good as most people here (I'm looking at you, Demian and Yang... and some others I don't remember the name.... forgive my poor memory ^^; ) but I wanna improve...
(I know there's a lot of errors, I saw most of them. Too lazy to redo them right now tho)

Yang: What's your background in Art?
What have you learned to accomplish such great artwork?
mmm.... you know.....i never really took any class of art....what you see is the result of my passion for drawing since childhood, where actually, im inspired by a tons of influences/things that i could saw during my life....
....i should started to draw since i was 7-8 y/o....i started to draw my favorites characters and vehicules from the anime japanese series in the 80's I.E: astro boy, dragon ball, dr slump, the transformers, grendizer ufo robot and so much japanese series i watched trough the french TV....and since then, i've been watching all sort of artbooks and comics....and the other influences come mainly from the video games....i started to draw my favorite charecters from the video games....the fact to be interested in paintings and travel throug Europe to visit painting exposition helps me a lot to become a prefesional illustrator...but it was just that...influences...to be honnest i never took any kind of class in some art school because my parent just denied the fact to become an illustrator as a serious carrer for me, they wanted me to became an engeener career because my whole family are full of engeneers...and they wanted me to become one...but instead i had these creative skills...and my parents always denied me a chance to study in some art school....
anyway...like i said, i don't have any professional/ art school education to draw, i never apply and assist to a school art, it's just observation and info that i got from art books and study from them...besides to play video games and read comics I.E: mangas, manwas, french bande dessinee, US comics and so on....and of course seeing artbooks from famous illustrator: Frank frazetta, Luis Royo and so on...
In order to follow my dream, i've decided to study sumthing linked with the illustration thing....and i ended up to study graphic design major and now i taking the especial subjects of it, animation and illustration....but im really into illustration more than animation wich is , of course, one of my passions.... so far, the major has been cool but i was desappointed with some features but im in my last year and about to be graduated....
@DSV:
Like i said, this artwork is the result of 17 year of drawing and of course a lot of passion for drawing, watching european/US/japanese cartoons and a lot of hours playing video games, watching movies . i must admit i have a childish mind and a lot of crazyness in my head that helps a lot to draw, im after all an artist i think...things like researching on artbooks and travelling to watch another cultures art helps of course....
that's it....i couldn't explain with further details, cause my english is limited and it sucks lol....but i think you could get the whole idea....
@MM:
Yeah, i use a tablet... a cheap one...the waccom graphire 3 it's all i could afford lol....but it alow me to paint those babes lol....
--------------------------
Oh! and yeah, i like to draw babes more than guys because im more confortable to draw hotties than guys LOl....don't ask or complain....im after all a guy....but i will post some guys in the future....and why i draw babes it's becuase those pics you see in previous post are for TCG (trading card game like magic the gathering)..wich are collected by boys/guys who are totally geeks playing those TC games....so logically hot babes is what is used to sell card lol....don't blame me because the company give me a script of the character and i must imagine the character they wanted....but i will post some pics of my cake someday (like the Mai fanart)

I can't paint for beans... you have a lot of talent, :P
I think it's easier to draw girls. I draw girls all the time too, lots of catpeople as well. Lol. I can't draw guys very well.
I'm getting better at art in general though. I tend to hurry too much when I draw. I'm not patient enough to do anything great. Also I lack the creativity to come up with anything very original. My characters look pretty boring usually.
Yang, your english is very good! Better than many people I know who speak it fluently!

lawl! thx...
english is my 3rd language.... and well...about your art...you must be patient, one can't make good artwork from today at tomorrow....it's a slow process...if you're into the illustration world and want to prevail, I suggest you about your lack of creativity, to look for some inspiration in stuffs you like...in my case, those are video games, comics and TV cartoons and other artworks ppl and even in your favorite music...it's not that hard....

Sometimes I do get ideas, but it's hard to visualize them in my head for very long. I'm much better with detailed descriptions(even down to accessories, I work with them and add my own stuff. I've done some commissions before that turned out nicely, cause the people gave me great descriptions of their characters. Other than that, my work turns out well usually only when I get a pose from someone else and a good idea for an outfit somewhere. I tend to just get lucky, lol.

http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/6580/wallpaperjoseph2oq.jpg
This was done last year also. Some time during summer.
This one is a wallpaper. White-hair-boy is I. I am in the "flash series" also and this is cartoon version. The girl behind the white-hair-boy is a made-up character and suppose t be white-hair-boy's close friend(lovers at the end). This flash series is a sequel series. There will be another series(drama/love-romance) before this one. This one is more concentrated on martial arts, romance, and some comedy.
@SS
The portrait of that hottie is nice...i know it's incomplete but you should finish it...i wonder how would be the final result....i always liked those ppl who made digital painting portrait, here i know a lot of artist who do that too.....and it's amazing...i would like to do that but my freelance job and my major keeps me busy almost all the time....but i guess i will give it a shot someday...but in painter...i like it more to do that kind of stuff....anyway great job...please finish it!!!

I don't know what kind of tips you're asking for, please be more specific, then i can help you...technical tips or material tips?
i don't really have any tips...i explained in a previous post that my skills have improved through many years (17 ,almost 18 in july :D) of watching different kind of artwork but i will give you tips anyway:
- If you're into the illustration and/or want to improve or wanna get into it seriously, then don't expect to draw in awesome way from today at tomorrow, drawing human body and other stuffs is one the difficult things, practice do it all, practice all the day if you can, every hour, in every free time, i also and highly recommend to take classes in some art school, or if you don't have money (like me) to take art classes, go to some library and rent books about human anatomy for the artist(not a medical one)those books are good, you can practice sketchin the human body illustrations.
- Watch around your daily life, start to draw houses, your neighborhood, your city (like this one of my current town i made while i was walking through a hill CLICK HERE (http://usera.imagecave.com/shingo/Valpochico.jpg)), aim for characters out in the streets, buildings and sketch with the most details as possible...this will develop a sensitivity to your eyes about details to catch them and draw them in the paper...
- Don't start to draw your favorite cartoon/anime/comic characters right away....like i said i highly recommend to start with basics like in the first tip. Mostly of the time it will be desencouraging for you, especially when other ppl criticize your artwork....
- Your don't have inspiration to draw? that's not bad, start to look about your hobbies, it is cartoons? anime? comics? movies? or even music? try to focus on one of them, working with music is particularly good (at least for me), it helps, i even did some artwork just based in the lyric of one of my favorite song, is not that hard, your daily hobbies can be a huge source of inspiration, sometimes looking the "picture thread" in the GD forum...i looked for very interesting ppl with interesting features in their faces and different ethnicities that inspires me to do some artwork (I.E digital painting portrait) that im interested to make, so expect one day to have one in your face painted artistically here if you've posted a picture in that thread....lol
well it's pretty much i have to say, maybe i forgot ...if you have some other question, please ask...i will try to answer the best i can with this limited english of mine lol...

Sorry, I wasn't that specific. But really that helps. It's sad I've been a graphic artist for 5 years now and I can't draw a stick figure to save my life. I've been trying to get better with the Illustrator program but you're right. I should probably learn how to draw first. Thanks for the advice.

FOBulous, you aren't the only one. I occasionally do graphic art work for close friends and relatives and I too, need to drastically improve my skills in the Illustrating department. I bought a book on graffitti and Im planning to practice my drawing skills. Copying 2d objects such as cartoons and graffitti often helps you with your drawing skills and you will find that you will naturally develop your own style with lots of practice.

I should say that is a good tip you gave there dude, when i lived in Switzerland, the town where i lived, there were not graffitis, n fact until then i knew graffitis just through documentary TV....but when i came to this country it was awesome, the town where im currently living is full of hiphop crew who made awesome artwork on the walls of the streets and some are uber cool, compete even with any good artwork of any illustrator....graffiti is one of the expression i like the most....because those guys paint them for other cause than money and it is not for comercial purposes, it's just to mark their territory....
Anyway, KK is right, aim for urban graphics such as graffitis, take picture of them, and got inspired! graffitis (the good ones) are valuable source of inspiration....
great contribution KK

No problem, mate. :D
The thing that I love about graffitti is that it incorporates both graphic design and illustration. A good graffiti artist will always be a good graphic designer.
I remember as a child, being entralled to ride the train from my home town to central london, not for the destination or the ride, but the graffiti that I would see on the way. Needlesstosay the majority of graffiti in England is of terrible quality, there is always that exception that captures and inspires your creative imagination.
Here are a few examples I found of graffitti from Japan;

Theres much more on the interwebs.

Yeah, that's much better than the graffiti here in L.A. We do have a lot and some of it is good. But I think the taggers here are usually trying hard to not get arrested or shot so they usually just tag their names.
Whoa!!!! the first one is impressive.....i have some graffitis pictures too but not in this computer...i will enventually go for them tomorrow in my pc at uni...
i could post them later... anyway dude...i still in shock with the first one....the 3rd one is kinda coo, remmeber me one of the enemies characters of super mario bros lol...

Been a long while since I posted anything. In fact, I don't think I posted anything since the old topic that I started! Anyway, here's some Photoshop stuff, I've gotta get back into drawing...
1. http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/7769/brycerings19xk.th.png (http://img109.imageshack.us/my.php?image=brycerings19xk.png)
I made this when I was in school. This was made with Bryce and Photoshop. I put together some rings and things and then rendered it, and threw it into Photoshop. I made some eliptical marquees and inverted portions of the image. I then duplicated the original and faded it on the top. I also did some halftone filtering and such. Nothing too fancy really, but I like how it turned out.
2. http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/8693/photoposter2s4kn.th.png (http://img192.imageshack.us/my.php?image=photoposter2s4kn.png)
Originally, my Photography teacher asked me to make a poster/flyer for her summer class. I wanted to make something kinda pop artsy, like something James Jean did on his comic book covers. She liked it so much that she asked me to just change the text on it so she could use it for a door sign. When I was talking to her at the Junior/Senior art show at my school, she said a lot of people seemed to like this one. This uses one of my own photos and the other four are by other students. I put credits at the bottom for when I was putting it in the show. I don't think this copy of the image has the credits at the bottom of it, but oh well.
3. http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/9901/dragonball10thanniversarymovie.th.jpg (http://img192.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dragonball10thanniversarymovie.jpg)
Made this two days ago. I was looking at my new DVD, the 10th Anniversary Dragon Ball movie, and then I was looking at the original movie poster. I really liked the design of the poster so then I set out to make a new DVD cover that mirrored the poster. I think I succeeded here. I made the spine a different color to set it apart from the rest of the image. I'm a little iffy on the back (those two screenshots that I put between the summary text), but all in all, I think it came out pretty well. I also made up a new logo for the 10th Anniversary. Though technically, Dragon Ball is in it's 20th, I was just trying to show that this was the 10th Anniversary movie.

My shot at drawing "animals". HB2 pencil used, 0.7 mechanical pencil also used. All based on imagination.
The thought of two legends facing off each other just caught my attention more than my Planning teacher teaching us about finances.
Person sitting beside me also said I should become a graphic artist.
Pfft, yeah right.
I can only draw sketches, I can barely even use Paint.
^hey!!! DSV!
you sketch are good...i like your style...and for the coulour....don't worry...try to find someone to colour them...think that some illustrator work as a team...at least, here i know many illustrator team who work togheter to do awesome artwork(I.E: one made the rough sketch, the other made the inklines and another one, colorize the inked sketch in the computer)....In example in my homecountry (wich is not Canada you went to a wrong direction buddy lol....) there's a studio wich is composed by 2 chicks, they draw with the anime style and one of them is uber talented at dawing sketches, and the other chick made the painting stuff...why? because the chick who made the sketches totally suck at colouring and the other one own pretty hard at painting....so we have a team work here...working togheter as basketball team (bad comparison i know)
you have talent DSV, don't criticize too hard yourself, you can't colorize your sketch...because one can't own at all stuff sometimes...so maybe i recommend you to find someone who own at painting maybe...someone who has a graphic tablet and can paint your sketches...made an alliance with people who has that skill because you have already your drawing skill...
Anyway, as i can see...you have future in graphic grounds, maybe you should start to draw professionally(staring from now) by downloading e-artbooks and online tutorials and stuff like that...i also recommend you to download that photoshop software and buy a graphic tablet if you will go seriously into this hobby...
i will recommend you some sites as well...in near future
