Today, November 15, 2008 is a very special day. My first grandchild, a boy, was born today. He is 7 lb. 9 oz. and 20 1/2 inches. His parents my son, Anders and his wife left for the hospital at 1:00 AM this morning and the baby delivered at a little after 3:00 AM. They were quite shocked at the hospital as this was my son and his wife's first child and normally first child labor lasts six or more hours. Now, of course I'm not prejudiced but this is one handsome boy. I will post a picture later.
This is indeed a very happy day.

That's awesome. Now if you can Anders to post more then that would be a real miracle.
Has a name been chosen yet?

Thank you for your well wishes. I am so very excited. Seeing my grandchild brought tears to my wife's and my eyes. He is bright and beautiful and even has a full head of thick dark hair. Seeing grandchildren is rare in my family as we marry late and have children even later. My son, the father of the baby, was born in 1983, I in 1941, my father in 1898 and my own grandfather in 1854. That's quite a span of years. My father didn't live to see Anders. My own grandfather died long before I was born.
Today, we'll take a camera with us. We forgot yesterday. At least Anders and his brother (Redbeard) didn't. I'll post some pictures, probably on Monday.
Oh, just to let you know, Ander's has already signed little Samuel up for martial arts lessons. Of course, it will take awhile for his first lesson.

1898! WOW!
Seems your son broke that pattern, eh? He's only two years older than me...couldn't even imagine kids right now.

I'm totally going to name one of my kids Anders. Just because it would sound totally ridiculous/awesome given my last name.

To date, Sam is able to turn on his side by himself, and when he's held, he can sit up with almost no help. Not bad for 5 days old eh?

Oh such a cute little boy, going to have lots of girls sighing after him =)
They are so precious at that age. I really miss it when my son was that age.
Many blessings your way!

Seriously, five days old? Wow! Isn't that stuff supposed to take like six weeks?
Methinks we have a future Olympic athlete on our hands.
Also, congratulations!

That baby has a hilariously awesome amount of hair. I know a few guys who would kill for that hair.

Don't worry. Just like in middle age, most of it will probably fall out over the next month, leaving him half bald. Happened to my first daughter, who was born with a full set of long locks, and was bald by the time she was 3 months old.
Cute kid, Anders. And Grandpa Ruaidhri.
