DALLAS - The Dallas Police Department said a 13-year-old boy, who was arrested after an alleged drug deal turned fatal, is one of the youngest people they have ever charged with murder.

Police said they believe the teen was running a drug house in a South Dallas neighborhood. It was around midnight Monday when police said a man, 24-year-old Byron Cobb, came to the house to by drugs off the young boy. The transaction quickly turned deadly when Cobb tried to rob the teenager, police said.

"The 13 year old in this case believed he was in fear of his life and he shot Mr. Cobb before something could have happened to him," said Lt. Craig Miller, Dallas Police Department.

Since police said the incident occurred during a drug transaction, they said they don't consider it an act of self defense and have charged the boy with murder.

While police said the boy is one of the youngest they have charged with murder, they said they have made several arrests over the last few months that involve children in drug operations.

In May, News 8 reported about a 10-year-old boy who was a lookout and helped fund business for drug dealers. In August, a 14-year-old girl was caught with thousands of dollars worth of drugs she had smuggled from the border to Dallas on a bus.

"The drug environment is getting younger and younger every day and this should be particularly disturbing to all of society," said Deputy Chief Julian Bernal, with Dallas Police Narcotics.

In all three cases, the children were runaways who got swept up into a shady world. Police said they're still having trouble finding the family of the 13-year-old murder suspect.

Meanwhile, Dallas police said they are trying to figure out who owns the home where the murder occurred and searching for the adults who were provided the drugs to sell.

Im sorry but this is really disturbing that a 13 year old boy was perhaps running a drug house.

Thoughts?

Unlikely. There's most likely older higher-ups behind the scenes. I find it implausible that a 13 year old could have the resources or social tenacity to pull off renting a room, buying drugs, establishing deals, and having a gun without the aid of an adult..

It doesn't count as self defense if you kill someone trying to kill you and something related is illegal? The fuck? What kind of sense is that?

Probably something along the lines of you wouldn't have to have killed them if you weren't engaging in that particular activity. In this case, if the 13 year old wasn't selling drugs, it's doubtful this guy would have tried to rob him of them.

Not sure if I completely agree with that, but given the situation I can understand it.

If the government would just legalize all the types of drugs that are illegal now and had them sold at a stores, then the drug dealers would be put out of business and no one would have to be killed.

Probably something along the lines of you wouldn't have to have killed them if you weren't engaging in that particular activity.

That is pretty similar to what Japanese police tell women who have said they were raped, "If you were not hanging around a guy like that you wouldn't have gotten raped, therefore you are to blame..now get out of here."

Except its completely different. Selling drugs=/= being around people, and being raped isn't the same as shooting someone.

I don't know, where I live there are 14-15 year old kids who deal weed, they dont have a drug house or anything like that but they just buy from people they know and sell, its a pretty crazy world these days.

He'll probably grow up to record a platinum album, appears in countless soft drink commercials and star in his own movie a la "Get rich or Die Tryin"...
