So I am wondering something.
We all have opinions. Some that are vocal and some that are not. Our vocal opinions are ones that we feel are more or less easy for the audience to accept. While the ones we keep to ourselves or just around the ones we knw stay hidden because that person...boo hoo... may not like me anymore.
So I decided to create this topic to be free and without rules. I don't have any for this topic other than to say this isn't random or some /b/ nonsense (I'll delve into that in a minute).
No, I'm actually am curious what the average Internet go'er(?) thinks of scoiety as they know it. Yes, I know there are other cultures, races and ideologies out there. Yes, I get the Japan, China and Russia's society differes vastly from American/Canadian.
I just want to know what you think society is in your opinion. I want you to be uncensored and free.
The difference between this and RWPW is that I want thought out opinions and no, "OPRAH IS OVER 9000!!!!!!!!"
Savvy?
For example, I have a lot of opinions, but the one thing I realize is that your average person doesn't care about your opinion (lol ironic right?). What they really care about is how they can voice their opinion rather than hearing what the other person has to say.
Have fun. I don't have a topic from there.

Society is...society is...
society is a gateway drug
Sorry sock, I don't have time for long drawn-out thoughts and explanations, I save that for school.
I think you will get a better response if you have a more precise question. What kind of definition do you want that you can not find in a dictionary?
Are you asking people to make judgments about certain cultural beliefs? Are you asking people to specify the beliefs and institutions that make up a society?
I am not trying to disparage your attempt to create an interesting thread. Rather, I just don't get your question.

Society as I know it revolves around my daily life, which is limited social interactions with society. So society as I know it isn't really society, but about isolation from society. I guess one could say posting on an internet forum is part of society, but the act of doing so is isolation b/c most of the time one sits by themselves, alone while typing away on the computer. Sure, throughout my daily life, I'm surrounded by many people, but I don't talk to them and they don't talk to me, so it's a type of isolation within a society. I guess I'm getting the words society and socializing mixed up, but confusing two or more words is what happens when one does not verbally interact with the society around them and is left isolated within.

As far as I can tell society is basically interchangeable with nation or country, except with the nuance that it focuses more on the population at large rather than the government and political aspects.
I guess a decent formal definition would be something like "A collection of individuals in a limited geographic or political territory who are each members of multiple sub-groups." I guess the only other thing to mention would be that it's an abstract concept, as opposed to an actual concrete thing. In other words, the basic unit of humanity is the person, and a society is not a separate type of organism. (So while it can be useful for the sake of discussion, literally speaking societies don't interact; people do.)

Your thoughts remind me of this book I read in high school. It was about a world so technologically advanced that people lived in rooms by themselves, and used computers for everything. This society had isolated themselves, even from family, for the convenience of technology's comforts.
For example, I have a lot of opinions, but the one thing I realize is that your average person doesn't care about your opinion (lol ironic right?). What they really care about is how they can voice their opinion rather than hearing what the other person has to say.
I really agree with this statement, and it strikes a chord with my own thoughts of late. One of the main reasons I have always enjoyed this forum is the wide variety of opinions. For example, you have people like PLF, Az, Beowulf, Fujin, Shy, Roxie, and Ruaidhri, each one brings their own take to whatever thread they participate in. Some people voice their opinion because they want to be heard and to have an exchange of ideas, others post just because they want to be heard and care very little for what others feel or think, then there are those who are just curious and wish to participate.
*forgive me if this is really off-the-wall, I tend to post in a state of half-awareness, Also forgive me if I used you as an example, I just wrote down names of those who I either respect or tend to notice for whatever reason*
