View Full Version : Miss WaiWai? That's why we have Yomiuri!
Teacher hits 83 students on the head for being 7 minutes late to an assembly (http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/national/20080712TDY02308.htm)
Wouldn't say I'm shocked by the administration's reaction, knowing the Japanese way of handling issues...

I suppose he is never late for anything because he received such treatment as a middle school student.

"Six other teachers present failed to stop him."
All 83 times?

THWACK Are you going to stop?... THWACK Simon says stop... THWACK stop!... THWACK oh fuck this... THWACK THWACK THWACK THWACK THWACK THWACK THWACK THWACK THWACK THWACK THWACK..."

Every time I came onto the forum today, I saw "Miss WaiWai" and the first thing that crossed my mind was an image of the defunct WaiWai trying to rekindle interest by holding a beauty pageant.

No teacher on God's green earth may EVER lay hands on my child. He's "passionate" about teaching? I'd show him how "passionate" I am about protecting my children from abuse.

And knowing how the writers of WaiWai are, most likely that won't end well. Or at least the clothes won't be dry.

Sexual innuendo I would guess.

83 students? Wow...must be a karateka or some shit to have that endurance to leave a bump on all of them. At least he didn't go 80's on them and bust out with a shinai. I say let the man apologize, then transfer him to the ghetto school where his corporal judgment may prove useful (at the expense of getting sued).

"The teacher is passionate about teaching," the school's headmaster said. "I'm very sorry the students were hurt. I'll take preventive measures."
Wow. That's fucked up.

I have a friend teaching in Korea right now, and she remarked about how shocked she was that raps on a students head or knuckles was such a common punishment at the schools she's teaching at. Still, 83 at a time...
Admittedly she teaches out in the sticks though. I don't know where Matsuyama is in Japan, but for all I know it could be a local school in a small town which hasn't updated it's disciplinary procedures since after the war. But I don't think this kind of thing happens anymore in more populated areas, does it?

Perhaps less often than people think, but more often than the schools would like to admit.
When my oldest started elementary, one of the other classes in her second grade was totally out of control due to a teacher who couldn't cope, and a fair amount of it was attributed to his disciplinary measures, which actually encouraged the kids to act up to see how crazy they could make him (he was fond of the slap to the head or shoulders, mostly). And that was the assistant principal. He was forceably retired shortly thereafter.

I am quite surprised the teacher didn't get into more trouble. Difference in cultures I guess, cause in America, I feel bad for teachers, they pratically get abused on by kids.

If i recall correctly, there are still schools in texas that use the paddle as a viable form of punishment.

oh pooey, big deal. I used to get hit on my knuckles with a wooden stick in Vietnamese school when I was younger.
It's not like they beat the shit out of the students. A little bump? Pfft.
The only reason why I would be upset is if the students had actually deserved it or not.
