What exactly are Temporary internet files because I'm cleaning my computer up because I only had 3gb left and I wanted to clear up space.

Basically, it's like an image of a site you go to. It saves all the data of a web page so when you go back to the page, you only download new content from said web page (faster load time). It also lets you view web content offline. You can delete it if you need the space.

If you mean you need to find them to delete, do this:

If running IE7:
1)Click "Tools" tab above
2)Click "Internet Options"
3)Under "General" tab find "Browsing History"
4)Click "Delete"

This should open up a box in which you can delete a couple of things (including Temp files).

Mozilla Firefox:
1)Click "Tools" tab above
2)Click "Options"
3)Under "Privacy" tab locate "Private Data" box
4)Click "Clear Now"

It should pop up a box with boxes to check, and by default, should have the boxes checked to clear Temp Internet Files ("cache").

Hopefully, this is what you meant by finding it.

How about plain old Temporary files?

If you're using firefox, the temp. files are the cache. Uncheck everything else and delete just the cache.

If you're in XP, click on Start, go to Programs, Accessories, System Tools, then "Disc Cleanup". This'll knock out everything except Firefox temporary files. It'll take care of the "Temp Internet" kind, the plain ol' "Temporary" kind, and also knock out some other stuff you won't need.

After that, go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, and click on "Add/Remove" programs. Post a list here of what you have, and I'll help you weed some stuff out so that you can free up some space.

Hint - Most electronics stores now sell hard drives that are huge .. I picked up a 500GB drive from the one I work at for $90 the other day. (That was the price they were selling to customers for, too). You might look into getting a cheaper, smaller one.

I use CClearner which automatically cleans up unimportant files that take up space and cleans the registry. I have been using the program for several months and never had any problems what so ever.

You can set the program to clean what ever such as IE Files, Firefox etc, you can also turn off the options that you don't want performed.

Just go to ccleaner.com

I'll vouch for CCleaner. Used to be called CrapCleaner, and that's just what it does. Think I've had it since it was first developed.. not sure.

I will look into getting a new hard drive next month because right now I'm sitting on 20gb

^you might want to keep that HD if it's still good. Enclosures (or casings) are dirt cheap and give you a portable HD in no time. Just plop the drive in and plug it in via usb. I plan on seeing if I can do this with a junked notebook hard drive at 40 gigs. The more, the merrier.

Edit: if your computer has an extra bay for more hard drives, just keep the 20gb disk on secondary so that you have extra room.

I'm sure you can find 320 to 500 gb HDDs online for less than 100 dollars now a days. And that's a lot of space of store porn....or whatever else people store on their HDDs.

Keep in mind that if you get a new hard drive, unless you make an 'image' of the drive, you'll have to reinstall Windows. I'd advise keeping that 20 GB drive in there to run the OS from, and just stick the newer one in for more space.

You can direct your "My Documents" folder to store stuff there, too, to get some of the strain off of your old drive.
