Annoying things

As with any place foreign to me, I have found the first thing to become intimately aquainted with are the annoying insects or animals of a location. Although it is not something mentioned in any of the animes, is there any insects/creatures that are particularly annoying there?

I didn't notice any in Kobe in September. Can't speak about the rest of the country any other time of year, though. Heh.

ive heard cicedas(s[?) in the back ground of alot of view clips from japan. i hated the sound when i was a kid but now i find it very relaxing. you may find it annoying tho.

It depends on which breed of cicadas- Washington DC has an outbreak of the breed X, the kind that pops out every 17 years, and god they were everywhere. Annoying as hell.

Cicadas at night can be quite irritating as well. It all depends on the sound level and the kind of pitch they employ.

The sound of cicadas in Japan is very soothing to me :) It's rhythmic and, well, you can't have summer in Japan without them.

As for annoying, the mosquitoes. I used to get eaten alive by them in the summer :(

And they are rarley seen as well. The only time I have seen a cicada is when my dog was trying to eat it after it fell to it's death and a couple other dead ones. Anyway, I dunno how such a small insect (compared to us) can create such a loud sound. Anyway, I get the idea you hate bugs, yeah me to.

Rarely seen? Speak for yourself! They are of biblical proportions in Fukuoka. Thousands upon thousands..I had to start wearing earplugs when I slept, because they would wake me up on regular basis. VERY loud.

I HATED the cicadas. They were so loud that I couldn't hear my alarm clock in the morning.
The mosquitos were horrible too, and the mosquito repellent would always wear off around 2AM.

Crows are foul...

In some months there are crows EVERYWHERE.

Ok, so in Japan, on garbage days all you do is take your garbage bags out to the street curb and dump them there, under some netting. No garbage bins, no trashcans, wheely bins, nothing.

All thats seperating your waste from the world is a thin membrane of plastic and some netting.

This then becomes a crows smorgasbord. Every morning there are crows all over Japan pecking at peoples garbage bags. Ripping them open and scattering them accross the footpath. Its disgusting really.


Hahaha one morning me and my girlfriend are walking to the train station and its a garbage day. Sure enough outside my house (gaijin house, lots of people live here) are the grows, ripping at peoples garbage bags. And dragged right across the footpath, being pecked at by a big ugly crow is a condom. Still leaking its mystery fluids out onto the footpath. And coming out the same bag is some paperwork with my very neighbours names on it.


Gross.

I hated crows in Japan.
