I can't seem to let myself suceed........I am a kid with a ton of free time and the brains to pass school.
Right now I am failing every class.
I find myself arguing inside my head.
Here's how most of the arguments go.
(Me 1. is the me that wants to suceed Me 2.Is one that seems to make me fail)
Me 1. "Why the hell didn't I do that homework?"
Me 2. "I didn't want to"
Me 1. "YES I DID!"
Me 2. "Look man, no I didn't"
Me 1. "All we did after school was play city of hero's! We should have done it!"
Me 2. "Look bitch! I have control so shut the fuck up!"
Me 1. "Damn it man I need to stay out of trouble!"
Me 2. "I dont even feel like helping myself......."
So there you have it folks........I fail and it's all my own fault and I can't even fix it........Suicide seems so easy...........

Your a freshman right?
Don't worry about it dude. Freshman useally do very bad. Hell, I messed up around the first 3/4 of sophmore year also as well as my entire freshman year.
But fortunately I found out just in time that trying really doe's help. Teachers don't really grade by how good or bad you do anymore but what they really looks for nowadays is effort. Just try your hardest and you'll be fine.
And if you fuck up your freshman year don't worry about it. You can make all that up in summer school and by dropping useless classes your other years :). That's what i did and I graduated on time :D

First of all, suicide is not a good solution.
Studying is not easy nor funny (or at least for us poor average students) but you can do it, like everybody. If you have problems pushing yourself to do your homework, just reserve some time to do them each evening. Repeat to yourself that you must do your homeworks, and that once finished you'll have all the time you want to do something funnier.
Plus, you're saying that you can't fix it... but that's not true. You can always find a way to fix things.
Anyway... I hope you'll feel better >_<;;;

you are lazy. this hardly a new or unique problem, and it's not the end of the world either. you like CoH, then only let yourself play an hour after you've finished your homework. if you're smart, back it up with discipline. it takes will power to get things done on time and get them done well, but being able to focus and prioritize is an important life skill so you should start now.

yeah, I had that problem too, in fact to an extent I still do. The only way around it is to know that you love to slack off, and work hard on NOT slacking off. And make sure not to give up all fun activities, as that will just backfire and you will hate studying even more.

one thing to keep in mind is that the more freetime you have, the less you get done. try to join some clubs or take up some hobbies that get you out of the house, and you'll use your remaining time more efficiently than you would otherwise.

This started in 7th grade..........
Same here dude. It started in 6th grade for me also but I got over it.
Heres some tips I wish I had known earlier on in High School:
- Go to school early. About a hour to 40 minutes before school starts and spend it in the library. Read your books. Even better, do some last minute studying for a quiz or test with that hour or 40 minutes you have. If the library isn't open go find one of your teachers who is willing to let you into their class and use it as a 0 period.
- Make sure you sign up for some study hall classes later on. Trust me, it helps.
- Again, go to the library. But, do this after school. Spend atleast a hour there doing HW. I speant a hour and 30 minutes at the library after school on average and got the vast majority if not all my homework done in one sitting. The little bits I didn't finish I finished the next morning at the library (see what I meen?). Go atleast 3 days of the school days. Yeah you might miss out on hanging out with your friends but you can catch up with them later on in the day. Trust me, it's worth it.
Plus. Believe it or not. Some hott girls are in the library after school so :D. This one girl I studied with every late afternoon in the library after school was hott as hell.
- Don't be ashamed to ask your teachers for help. Both in class and out of it. Try and find time to find them while they aren't busy and ask if they can help you out. Teachers nowadays are willing to sacrifice their own time to help a student out. Hell, they probably enjoy it .
So yeah.... Use these tips.

So far in my highschool, homework is nothing. Easy as hell and semesterd. There is no reason why you can't work in a little homework after school, then go play you're video games. Plus, 75 minutes of class time is enough time to finish work. How much homework do you get d-pad?

But the hott girl I knew was kind of bookish too. So although she wasn't very anal about studying she also didn't allow me to fool around. Not while I study with her at least :D. She was like half the reason why I got my HW done!

You all are lucky, they let you into the school early?! Hell, at my school we were locked outside untill 15minutes before the first bell rang. And IF we were caught doing homework in class, the teacher would yell at us (This was mainly for MATH, that teacher was a raging cunt.) I did my best when I did the work IN class, so I could learn it and do it at the same time, 'cause I sure as hell wasn't going to be able to do it at home. It's odd, I could get an A on any test, but the homework dropped my grade dramatically.
My 7th grade math teacher is the reason I dropped out and tried homeschool. Thank you bitch!

It's odd, I could get an A on any test, but the homework dropped my grade dramatically.
That's how I've nearly failed many classes in the past... I suck at homework since I find it absolutely annoying, but when the test comes I ace the damn things. This used to be the case with pre-cal and physics... Luckily my grade wasn't so affected in pre-cal since the teacher believed homework should only count for 10% of the grade (Smart woman)... But physics...
Anyway... D_Pad, you do need to just will yourself to study and get things over with. Think about your future man... Do you think you're going to have the money to do all the stuff you are doing right now? You better get to studying.
I used to be like you... I still am a major procrastinator and I am a bit lazy with academics, but I manage because I will myself to do what I need to do. I've said this in the weight thread, but training and improving involves studying and practicing when you don't want to anymore. You just have to deal with it. I don't know how else it can be put really... JFP made awesome suggestions, so I advise you to follow what he said. You'll have plenty of time to do what you want AFTER you do homework and study.
I suffer from the same problem, not working hard because I can do stuff at the last minute and still manage to do okay. In high school it works, because unless you are in more competitive classes, there are gonna be even bigger slackers who don't care much for school, you still pass, do okay, and maybe get into college.
I realized it's different on college level. It was okay the first two years because I was in an art school that didn't offer basic math courses, just the technical stuff. They manage to do okay because they got a good animation program...
But once you get to college, you have to have a certain drive, otherwise it's far too easy to get sidetracked. There's people always doing nothing, getting into stuff like partying, drinking, smoking weed, and just hanging out with others. Plus you are on your own, responsible for your own time. It's a challenge, many freshmen kids suffer. Better get that laziness out of the system now than later.
Suicide is not the answer either. If you think you're so smart, try to make someone outta yourself. Suicide is in a way conceding that you are no better, and when you got nothing to show for it, then perhaps you are better off that way. Interestingly more people kill themselves at college than high school.

I can't seem to let myself suceed........I am a kid with a ton of free time and the brains to pass school...
You're a pedophile.
But in all seriousness, I've been were you are, and believe, I know how you feel. First of all, if you've considered suicide, even in passing thought, you probably have Clinical Depression. An inability to focus and a sense of detachment from certain responsibilities (such as homework) are also signs of depression. For me it started just around freshman year as well. Personally, I'd recommend seeing a professional. For years I simply thought, "Well, this is just the way I am," and it completely undermined my life, and got worse everyday until I simply couldn't preform, at school or socially. It wasn't that I want to die so much as I could barely stand to be alive. Don't make the same mistake I did.
I won't kid you, a few trips to a psychologist won't make everything all better. I'm still more or less depressed most of the time, but I have it under control. If you're like me, you probably spend a good deal of time thinking, "What does it all mean?" (...or maybe you don't, who knows). Well, I've spent the past few years for my life, everyday for a good chunk of the day pondering human existence and whatnot, and I can more or less tell you that there is no meaning in life. That is, there are no morals, values or criteria to satisfy external to man - life is what we make of it.
Just remember that even if you have no reason to live, you don't have any reason to die either.

I have problems with slacking off.
A good idea that my civilizations teacher (another known procrastinator) Is that when you get a due date, instead of writing that date. You write a date about two days or two weeks or a comparative amount of time, ahead of schedual. IE: You have a week to do an essay, Due next monday. You say it's due friday.
This gives you time to finish and refine your work.
Same goes with (What I'm doing currently): You receive a family tree project due in four months. You convince yourself it's due in three. (Or I convince myself it's due in three)
Also. Try try try very hard to get your homework done if not in class, at school. Seriously if you're a big procrastinator like me, chances are you wont do it at home.
I clued into this when I lost a textbook and had to use the teacher's copy. but only in class. So if my homework was to be done, it had to be done in class. For about three months! :O
First of all, if you've considered suicide, even in passing thought, you probably have Clinical Depression. .
Just remember that even if you have no reason to live, you don't have any reason to die either.
Easy there. Don't jump the gun on too early. Everyone has bouts of doubting themselves, and frankly, most people have thought about suicide at one point or another. If you on;y have such symptoms during the high school years, it can hardly be considered clinical depression. People suffer from this throughout their entire life, and if you've seen how miserable they are, I wouldn't declare such things that lightly.
I've seen a shrink for a bit. Most of the time it was just nice to see someone I could vent out to and not worry about as I was paying him out of my pocket. Having 'professional assistance' makes you more willing to bare yourself whole and confront your problems.
They say a shark gotta keep swimming, otherwise it'll sink to the bottom. It may not be the best advice out there, but having small dreams and fulfilling them helps a lot in terms of self-confidence, as well as motivating oneself. Small things like going out and watch a movie, engage into a thoughtful conversation, or just being as lazy as you can be and not feel guilty. In the end, being selfish doesn't hurt, as long as you have the capacity to consider others.

Listen up D, i have been in the exact same predicament. The only solution is being strict for yourself, but not too strict, that will make you loose interest. Have someone (maybe a parent or a teacher) check your homework each day. The going to school early tip worked very well for me. Reward yourself with something when you are done with homework, like some chocolate chip cookies, or half an hour of chatting with your favorite friends in the op9 irc room.
Suicide might seem the easiest way out, but it's not. In your situation it's a way to escape your responsabilities to yourself. If you keep having thoughts like this dont feel afraid to contact a councellor.
Oh and one last thing: Remmeber that you aren't going to school because you HAVE to, you are going to school because you want to build the best future for YOURSELF! be selfish in this manner! go for it buddy!

D_Pad. My buddy. Guess what? A lot of people care about you. Read the comments. They are all saying “Don’t give up”. They are confessing that they have had the same problems and found solutions. Take Jiant Flying Panda’s advise very seriously. It will work for you.
By this point you should realize that you’re not alone. You have a lot of friends that will help you overcome your problems. Never give up and never beat yourself up. Talk to a school counselor. Ask for help.

Alright, d-pad, I'm going to give you a little motivational tool:
You know the homeless on the street. Have you seen a homeless shuffling by, one large oversized cup in one hand? That's going to be you, in another ten years. The truth. And if I ever pass you by, I'll toss in a few coins, or maybe beat the living shit out of you with a baseball bat. Either that or you'll be wiping shit, washing dishes, taking orders for the next fifty years.
:)
Nah, I'm only joking. You'll probably be a gangsta, living off the streets, selling and purchasing drugs and I'll probably find you in your stolen viechle, head laying limply against the steering wheel, blood on the dashboard.

I really hope you have a good life.
Maybe you have ADD. My sis does and had horrible grades in 8th grade, but got good ones in 9th (when she was on meds). Really, if you find it hard to focus, and just don't want to to the homework or whatever, you may need ADD medicine.
But if you know you don't have ADD, and you have trouble doing your work, do it little by little. Take short breaks. My brother calls says 'hunk it and chunk it'. :p Sometimes I just don't feel like doing my work, but if I do it little by little, I get it done.

First off if you didnt/don't have any trouble in school doesnt give you the right to tell other that they are either stupid or mentally challanged. Some people have trouble in school some don't.
I was also in your shoes, not wanting to do my homework. But what ever you do don't do what i did. I didn't want to do my homework, so i didn't do it. I would throw my homework away on my way out the door from class. I aced all my test, and my in-class work. But each non elective class would fill any spare class time with in-class work, and then give you at least an hour of home work. That meant everyone when home with at least 3 hrs of homework, occationally up to 5hrs! I was luck as i lived closer to the school that most kids did so i got home around 3:30. There was no way i was going to be doing homework till 6:30-8:30. And yes this was public school. I fought the system all the way ti
This behavior actually started in middle school when i learn through the school coulsler that in my district, you could not be held back with out your perants permission. In grade school i aced ever subject (exept spelling, spelling is my achilles heel, always C's) And my mother had ADD when she was a child, back before they knew what ADD was. And she was held back 5 differant time. Both the children and the teachers made fun of her. And she ended up dropping out. And the whole experiance was so tramatic for her that she would fight tooth and nail with the school when they even mention holding me back. When i got into Highschool i failed my first year and was held back depite my moms protests (and for the record i never asked for her help, and even told her to calm down a few times). From then on i would do the bear minimum to pass in only the classes that i needed to graduate. And when I turn 18 i transfered myself to a brand new Alternitive School sponsered by my current school, that was entirely computer based and work at your own pass. All the work was done in class, and class was over at 11 am. And completed 2 year of school in 1 1/2 years while messing around on the internet and only going to school for half the day.
But looking back my courses of action were likely not the best i could have made. I would strongly recomend that you take the advice that others are giving here. Then again if you fill that an Alternitive School you be best for you look it to it first. The one i've been into is the only one that was set up like that that i have seen. But it my still be a better option for you, just do you homework first (no pun intended :p )

Hey D man...here's one from age and regret.
Sounds like you are about where I was (back in High School).
Smart enough to get by without doing much (if any) work. Slacking off and doing the bare minimums. It is a giant painful trap, and man y'all have got to get out if it.
The habbits you form now will be with you for the rest of your life. Now is the time you can decide and effect changes relatively easily. I know it's tough to do, but think about where you want to be in 20 years, and what you want to have accomplished. Then evaluate whether you can get there with the habbits you have formed and are reinforcing every day.
I just about choke when I think of the opportunities I've wasted because of the decisions I made and habbits I formed early in my life.
Where I could have gotten an appointment to the air force academy, I slacked off and went to community college...got my 2-year degree in 4 years. Went on to a *real* school, and flunked out by not going to classes (would wake up, see a light dusting of snow on the ground, and decided I didn't need to go to class that day). Ended up screwing up my finances with student loans I was trying to repay, etc. Ended up working as a security guard until I was almost 27...when I finally got off my a$$ and picked up a real job. My wife helped motivate me getting back into school (if she hadn't been there, I'd have been SOL). With her encouragement, ended up with my BS in business management with a 3.97 GPA. If I'd have been on my own, never would have done it. And that's all because I never took initiative to do anything better when I was younger...and I developed sloppy work habits. Right now, I could be a lot of things...a career military officer (Lt. Col or Col by now), a senior manager/vp. Instead, I'm a good 10 years behind where I thought I'd be.
I'll summarize my point with two quotes.
A smart man learns from his mistakes. I'm a smart man. A wise man learns from others mistakes...learn from mine. (paraphrased, and don't know who said it).
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. (Thomas Edison)
You have the potential...and it is up to you to use it. So tell ME #2 to stick it.
'nuff said...be cool dude };o)

D, man, don't take the Emo way, that's just plain stupid. Don't think life's all easy, which is not, so let's shapen up, or ship out!
Don't worry, on my first year of high school, I did pretty poorly the 1st Term, and I FAILED FOUR SUBJECTS. I managed to bring them up to par, and now I've got decent grades so far! One, which is Math, failed throughout the whole school year, so I had to take Summerschool for that.
So don't worry, there are other stupidfucks around the world, and you're not one of 'em! If you want, I'd be glad to help you in some subjects, no matter what situation you've got!

The thing that motivated me the most to study was that I wanted to get the hell out of my house and off Long Island by the time I graduated from high school. For this, I knew I would need good grades and a scholarship. I also wanted to go to a good (read, nerdy) school where there weren't a bunch of jocks and sororitites and I could fit in.
Think about it. You know you want to move out when you're 18. Most people do. So you don't want to be left with the local community college as your only choice and living under your parents' roof (and their rules). So think of studying as your ticket to freedom, because that's what it is.

Yea, was exactly the same as you. 7th to 9th grade (last 3 years of primary school) took me 4 years to go through it. Last year barely got out. Ive never done homework regularely in my life. Anyway, after primary school went to vocational school (lasts 3 years), took me over 4 years to go through it (actually quit it in the middle and went to work, so technicly it took 5 years), heh. Ive always hated studying stuff i dont like, though my problem with school was always that i wasnt in it, when i should have :p Though i survived, i'm now working in an architect office in my own profession (i'm an Architectural Technician). The only time i've studyed properly and got best grades all the time, was my last year in vocational school. Took me fucking 8 years to start studying properly, but i managed in my last year to fix almoust all my grades. My point is, you get used to something, it becomes harder and harder to get back on the track. But it can be done.

Suicide seems so easy...........
If you have truly considered hurting yourself, you need to see your doctor who will hopefully know to refer your to a psychiatrist.
Even if you aren't truly considering suicide but have thought about it, you should talk your doctor.
Thoughts of suicide does not dictate a diagnosis of depression, but it would be one of the major concerns.
This is the internet, and it is hard to tease out how someone truly feels. While I'd prefer that this were just a joke, I'm concerned that you made a comment like that. I hope that if you really do feel that life isn't worth living that you go talk to your doctor.

Hey D, I know you'll get through this. Despite being a little punk, you're an awesome guy ;). It's hard to concentrate sometimes and stay motivated to do stuff, I know, I have ADHD so I've been there.
Being your age can be extremely difficult. So just hold on, you'll get to where you need to be. If you still think that you can't go on, please make sure that you see someone who can help you!
I have faith in you! *Hugs*

Ok! Here's something I know a shitload about. All throughout highschool i had crappy marks.i never did my homework ever, but aced almost all the tests (except math, i had to take grade 10 math 4 times). I graduated with a 68 average, went to a cheap uni that shall remain nameless, got kicked out cuz i never did anything, and now am a 20 year old guy with nothing to do, and I have to wait till im at least 22 before i can reapply to any uni (cuz i got kicked out bla bla bla). THATS how bad ur life wil be if u dont work ur ass off. i was supposed to travel after in finished uni (22) till i was 26 and then do what i had to do, but now my life is fucked up beyond belief. honeslty i would kill myself if it werent such a pussy thing to do (i dont really care if people do it, i know a few who have, but they were pussies compared to me, rahahahah i sorta feel bad now).
so, if u want to have a good life, do ur shit, even if u dont want to. its called disciplining yourself. if u have none of that then its mighty hard to achieve anything.

Well, if D-Pad is really lazy I doubt he would even read the responses or folow your advice. It all starts around 7th grade where you become somewhat lazy, during 8th grade your fairly lazy and weird. By 9th grade (where I am right now) I can say I am the lazyest person for miles hell, I almost starved to death once since i didn't wanna go and make myself something. People say it gets better by 10th grade, but I'm just too damn lazy.

Maddox is a bitch, and forever a bitch.
Alphonse V.2 is correct, I failed Math in Grade 8 (and went for summer school because of that), brought it back from the dead in Grade 9 (ha da C-, but I did so good on the Final Exam, I got up to a high C :D), and now, Math ain't so hard afterall.
See, Maddox is still a bitch. A very smart one, to be exact.
Okay, it is obvious that people who can't be human can't refrain from posting either. I'm closing this with the plea to D_pad that if things are that bad, find a friend, counselor or someone else to talk to. It's never that bad, kiddo.
