Basically, Im heading to the Netherlands in february, and im heading up to Leeuwarden. But seeing as im arriving by plane, I would like to cut the amount of hassle I have in regards to travelling to a railstation that would get me a train that takes me up to Leeuwarden.
So im either flying to Groningen or Amsterdam.
But im not sure which one would be the easiest to get around to any main rail station (because im guessing they would be somewhere in the city or neaby).
So my question for you NL peoples who are either in Groningen or Amsterdam or have a good idea of the rail network you got goin;
Which airport / city should I go to that would be easiest to get to a rail station that would take me to Leeuwarden? I speak no word of dutch and I am worried outta my face that I will get lost ><
Any sorta info, be it a map or perhaps some advice on ways I could go about getting to a rail station where trains go to Leeuwarden would rock.

Everyone speaks English in the Netherlands (that's how it seemed to me when I was there). And people were extremely helpful and just generally nice. Don't worry about getting lost.
I'm sure someone here will give directions- I only took trains in and out of Amsterdam, so I'm no help. But you should also consider which city will give you the better airfare (unless someone else is paying for it).

I have already checked the airfares and Amsterdam seems to be the cheapest, not to mention best option for flight travel as more flights go to that airport than the other.
Im just wonderin how far the railstations would be, because hey... I wouldnt wanna get lost in one of them big ol cities ;_;
I suck with public transport in foreign cities ><

I can't imagine a better city to get lost in than Amsterdam.

Well, as much as I would love to get lost in Amsterdam, I'd rather get to my destination on time and not have anyone wait too long for me =]

You should send a PM to someone from the Netherlands(MeneerDijk maybe) cuz it looks like you're getting nowhere in a hurry.

Looks like everyone in this thread is saying you should stop in Amsterdam. The best thing is to really do it and go.

I didn't even know Groningen had an airport, so I don't know anything about Groningen. I do know that Schiphol airport (Amsterdam) has a trainstation directly under the airport.
edit: I looked up some information, and it seems like it will take you about 2 and a half hours to get to leeuwarden from Amsterdam, which is pretty long considering the short distance. You'll also have to switch trains twice. I you land in Groningen, it will take about one and a half hour. You can take the bus from groningen airport, switch buses and then take a train.
If you are interested I can send you some more detailed information.

That would rock.
If you could give me the most direct routes to Leeuwarden from either Airport, I would be really grateful. I would just like to find the most direct route to Leeuwarden with as few changes as possible.
I was considering Amsterdam seeing as the station under the airport goes to Amsterdam Central Rail station, and there is a train there that goes to / past Leeuwarden ( Taken from this URL http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amsterdam_Centraal ). Not to mention flights to Schiphol Airport are a lot more common and cheaper too than Groningen.
However, I'd rather get confimation from someone that knows what they're talkin about, so please PM the detail to me if you could when you have the time.
Many thanks ^^
I love how someone can say 'Netherlands' on the Internet and every weed-smoker on the forum will come out of nowhere and mention Amsterdam... lol
