Not sure if this belongs here but whatever.
I consider japanese food in general to be fairly healthy.... But is it ok to have teppenyaki like say .... 5 times a week???
I get them pretty cheaply here compared to other food.... well as long as I buy the minimum 'set' meal. So I've been eating teppenyaki quite a bit.
And If you have anything else to say about teppenyaki Please do so!

I can't say for sure about teppenyaki specifically but it is always best to try and get a variety of different foods.

Teppanyaki is very healthy, and if you include a good variety of meats and vegetables, you should be able to eat it every day and not have a problem :D

Hey, where are you getting it so cheaply?? All the places by me (Ebisu), it's like an art form or something and wicked expensive. I would eat teppanyaki all the time if I could...

Yeah, clue me in. I haven't eaten a ton of it, but it hasn't struck me as cheap eating thus far...
Teppanyaki is as expensive or more expensive than eating at a steak restaurant. I, too, am interested in how you eat that five times a week. I'm tired of eating at Wendy's five times a week.

Teppanyaki is only as expensive as the ingredients you buy. I'm assuming he has a hot plate at home... all you need is some oil, salt, various veggies/meats, and some dipping sauces.

This strongly implies he's not eating the teppanyaki at home. Hence the eager looks on our faces. ;)

The healthiness of teppanyaki is dependant on the oil used, and quite frankly, I doubt restaurants are using low-fat oil. Even in Japan. Just watch your cholesterol and your weight, and if nothing horrible starts to happen, I wouldn't worry about it.
And yeah, in what world is this stuff cheap?

sorry everyone .... but you're going to have to fly for around 2-4hrs from Japan to get to where I'm at. I'm in Taiwan.
I guess you could call it imitation teppenyaki if you want since its not being cooked by Japanese people .... at least not at where I'm having it.
You're probably right tho Pierrot, I find it a bit oily and have no idea as to what type of oil they're using .... I should probably ask.
"minimum" set menu is basically pork, beef, or lamb, and two type of vegetables.
but thanks all for your opinions.

I've been to teppanyaki places ran both by Japanese and non-Japanese, and didn't think there was any difference in taste. I mean, there's Benihana, after all. The inclusion of lamb does sound different. Never been to a place that offered lamb as part of the meal, it's either beef or seafood, stuff like shrimp and/or lobster.
I used to work at a local teppenyaki chain for two summers. Bussed the whole time because I was the only white boy in either store (and the only non-Asian besides the Mexican washing the dishes in either store), but at least the employee meals were good. Times I wished I knew more Korean, but hey...

Taiwanese food is cheap and wonderful. God I loved the food there.

I love Teppenyaki. I was a hostess at a Teppenyaki house/sushi bar, and the free meals were nice. Originally prices were SO DAMN EXPENSIVE. Too bad I live in another state now...mmm...now I want some darn it :(
The only problem I've had with Teppenyaki is cross-contamination. Being extremely allergice to shell fish and having someone order the Seafood Special next to your chicken...

TeppEnyaki and teppAnyaki are pronounced the same in English?
When I heard the word teppEnyaki in Japanese, I just imagine that someone grills something at the top of some place or someone burns the head of someone else.
If this question is ridiculous, simply ignore me.
