On the streets? I've never spent any extended period of time in any large cities or ghettos, so I can't say.
The most awe inspiring thing I've seen recently was the full moon a few days ago. To me, it's one of the most beautiful things in the universe.

2 highschool frat parties hanging out and staring and cussing at each other outside a private girls' school. I was waiting for action but no, lord no the guard had to be there. If there ever was, I'd expect half of the class empty and that would probably be the happiest day of my entire life.

A truck careening towards my mother's car, as well as others nearby, at a completely inappropriate speed while towing a car behind it that was swinging and banging into things. My mother barely moved out of the way... The truck ending up taking down a sign or two and stopping in a lot. The guy simply got out of the truck, checked the car, and drove off like nothing happened.
That's the most amazing thing I can remember happening on the streets.

For me, a sunset. Real relaxing that. I especially love standing there at the top of the stairs of the fine arts building at my school (around, oh I dunno, 7/7:30PM). In a sense it's rare, because I only get to watch it from there when I go to art shows at my school, so it's always a treat in its own right.
I once shot a man in reno just to watch him die

I was on the bus and a boy about 17 came weaving in and out of traffic. A car smoked him and I heard a crunch followed by a thud as he hit the side of the bus and lay down unconscious. I turned my head in repugnance as he fell a meter short of me. The rest of the people on the bus went in shock as they phoned the ambulance and gasps of "Oh my gawwwwwwd! were abound. I got off and walked to the next terminal, then made my way to school. I don't know what happened to the guy after that. This was all a couple days ago. I could make a thread with all the crazy shit I've seen!

The most awe inspiring thing that you're likely to see on the streets where I live is a seagull with a mangled leg pecking at some stale vomit on the pavement.

This is not exactley the most impressive thing I've ever seen but it's the only one I can think of off the top of my head..... Yeah I know awe-inspiring things should be things you remember but..... Yeah.
In the really early part of my Sophmore year of High School me and a few friends drove down to San Francisco for a Metallica concert. I've been to some smaller concerts before, but this one was going to be the first real concert I've ever been to.
Anyways long story short the opening bands just finished and there was completesilence coming from the stage for a while. The crowd started doing their thing and talking amoung each other then all of a sudden......
James Hetfield the lead guitarist and vocalist of Metallica come up from underneath the stage on some sort of elevator like device and started singing "Die, Die, Die My Darlin'!" with 2 tall pillers of fire exploding on each side of the band.
Yeah I know it's not exactley the most peotic song but it didn't matter. If they were playing "Orion" (Awesome song) or "Invisible Kid" (Lame song) it wouldn't have matter because the entrance was so cool.

Well, this isn't really awe inspiring, but this is my most vivid memory of something happening on the streets.
It was my older sister's 15th Birthday Party, and I was four. I was outside by the mailbox with my sister, helping her tie balloons to the mailbox so people could find our house. I guess I wasn't really helping, cuz I was pretty young. But I remember watching as these two boys road down the street on their bikes. We lived on a really steep hill, so they were going really fast. My house was on the corner of two roads, with a four-way stop. . .and the two kids didn't stop at the stop sign. They just flew through it. I guess they figured that it was a small neighborhood that we lived in, so they didn't think someone would be driving through the intersection. Anyway, one of the kids made it through, but a car ran into the other kid. I remember it really distinctly, even though that was fifteen years ago. There was blood everywhere and the kid was screaming "Help me! Help me!" So my sister and I ran inside and got our dad, who called 911 then came out with towels and ice. The kid survived, but it was pretty messy and he broke a lot of bones.
I'll always remember that, seeing all that blood all over the street. And I can still hear the kid screaming "Help me!" :(

Yes, I saw that from a hill in Devon, perfect view. It was a really bright day, nothing but green fields all around, and it suddenly goes completly dark. Insane.
Well by the streets I'm assuming you just mean real life so...
Most recent ones would be my mate's mum's funeral, she wasn't very old...made me think a lot about how life is short and all that other stuff.
Another slightly older one is when me and my mate were drunk or something at one of my parties, anyway we get bored when it all dies down so we go for walks to the local 24/7 store to get food and stuff.
This time we took a detour and ended up lying on some field looking at the sky, pitch black really so we could see the stars. We both lay there talking crap and I think I said make a wish on a star or something equally chessy and stupid so we did and a shooting star flew past...needless to say we absolutely flipped out, running around shouting "oh my god!" , "what the fuck!?", etc for about 10 minutes, was one of the coolest things we've ever seen.

Amen to that Tssss. By pure luck one summer, I happened to be up in the mountains fishing, with no city lights to interfere, and there was a meteor shower. It was pure awesome.
Oh, and San Francisco bay in the summer. The water is gorgeous, the bridge is bright red and Alcatraz is not bad eithier...not to mention all the pretty white sailboats out on the bay...mmm :o

yeah, meteor showers are great!
I love watching sunrises from a high spot in the mountains. Start about a half hour before sunrise, and you can watch as the whole world under you goes from black, to grey, to green and brown and blue. It is the most amazing sight in the world.

Well this wasn't that awesome but.... Here I go.
There a lot of thunder and lighting going on about 30 minutes away from where I live (I think it's in Firefly's 'hood). Anyways, I love thunder and lightning and I just came back from running some errands for my mom and I just decide to sit in my car infront of the house when i get back and watch the lighting in the distance for a good 20 minutes. All the while I was blasting some "Stoned Cold Crazy" and of course, "Ride The Lightning".
This happened about 30 minutes ago.

Speaking of lightening, I've seen this one bolt strike a park close by, about 1,000 feet away. This was no pushover bolt, it lit up the Eastern horizon and blinded me for a good 5 minutes. It made me flinch and my dog puke in fear.

I've seen a lightning bolt hit around 100 feet away from me and nail a tree. Shattered the thing, flashed so brightly it was blinding, and make the loudest sound I hope ever to hear in my life. I've also looked in a mirror. And if that isn't awe-inspiring, then you'll have to settle for the lightning one.

Yeah, we had some LOUD lightening. I LOVE thunderstorms. To me though, it ain't no thang. I come from Colorado, and in August, we'd have ourselves a good old thunderstorm every summer afternoon...:)

Pierrot: same, only this one was about 70 away, and nailed a telephone pole. The palm tree sitting next to it was flaming like the Fourth of July; we called 911 emmediatly.
The other thing that I can say is awe-inspiring is seeing my 70-year-old sensei Koyama do the splits. Middle. With a smile.

I've lived in bigger cities most of my life so there is a lot of light polution. Going hundreds of miles away from town and just staring up at the stars is something everyone should do at least once.

Craziest thing ever was when I drove up to Iqualit from Toronto, and at nights I parked the car a few dozen meters off the road and slept in a sleeping bag. The Aurora Borealis, and the second night there were some stars, a meteor shower or something. It was so sexy.
Another thing was when I was in a plane from the UK to Canada, I am dead serious that I think I saw something out there. It was like dark, and you couldn't see anything but darkness, and most people were asleep, and I looked out and I saw something.
The most amazing thing I have ever seen was the northern lights in February in Finland. I used to live near the arctic circle and the lights were out pretty much whenever it was a clear night, but this one night they were just so amazing, all red, green and purple and all over the sky. Me and my friends just stood there watching for about half an hour in the freezing cold.
One amazing thing I remember happening to me was when I was about 9 or so and I lived in Mississippi. There was a tornado warning and I was in the front yard playing. It was getting pretty dark from the storm and the wind was picking up. My dad came out on the porch and told me to come inside. As I was walking toward the house he said "Run!" so I did, and right as I stepped on the porch a bolt of lighting hit the yard and burned a big patch of grass. That was incredibly weird and freaky!

Craziest thing was just a few days ago there was an accident in the road. I road up on it right after the wreck happened. I pulled over some lady was in the passenger side unconcious with a ladder pushed up into her back from the backseat. I think she died. There was nothing I could do. Nat'l Guard was already there.

I was at the bar of this resort hotel in Ohio after a wedding reception that took place at said hotel. There was another wedding party there at the bar; their reception was also held at the same hotel. Later in the evening after everyone is liquored up, the other wedding party who was from Boston started picking on us southern guys, calling us redneck bastards. Eventually one of the northern chowder-heads threw a punch at one of us southern rednecks and an all out brawl ensued. 20 minutes later, the cops arrived and took down several peoples statements while the bride of the other party was crying her eyes out. Luckily our own party’s wedded couple was long gone and didn’t have to suffer that awful night.

How can a ladder be pushed up to her back-side. Is she a carpenter?

I was walking to Wawa and stopped at the fourway intersection. Here was the set up.
Wawa ||
Red ||
=====||======
Me || G
I was facing the Red light. I looked over my shoulder, saw the green light, and saw a girl step off the pavement. Watched her walking across the street and the light turned yellow. I looked back up to my red light.
Suddenly, there was a squeal of brakes.
I look up and watch as a car tries to stop BEFORE the cross walk on the Wawa-side of the road (the traffic is one-way, going 'down' on the screen) and skid through the intersection... and strike the girl who had been crossing the street.
I saw her body fly up and slam back down into the pavement. The car had been going so fast it didn't stop (brakes still screaming) for 30 more feet past the intersection.
A woman started screaming across the street and I screamed at my friend who I was walking with to call 911. I ran out into the street and someone else (the only other WITNESS) stopped traffic. ...I'll never forget kneeling down beside the hit girl and seeing blood coming out of her nose and mouth. Her legs were bent at a strange angle....
...*sighs*

PCP can have interesting effects on the body...
My sensei told me once of a video he came upon... It was a prison and some guy had managed to get near the damn exit. A huge black guy with the most evil look on his face. And he wasn't even running to the exit, he was just walking. A cop stood at the doors and fired into the prisoner's body. I think he might have hit his head a little as well... The point is he was on PCP, so he kept walking for a while and when he reached the cop, the prisoner's final move was grabbing onto the cop's head and twisting his neck to the point of cracking. Then he fell dead.
The cop survived, but... wow. PCP.
