So, this has become my most recent obession. It is so much better than all those cheesy colourful sci-fi shows out there.
So does anyone else love this series?

Couldn't agree more with what has been previously said. However, as good as the show is, I am tiring of the grim and gritty shows that seem to abound these last few years. I actually kind of like the feel good optimism of the original Battlestar Galactica, and all thsoe colorful "cheesy" sci-fi shows.

I was a big fan of the original show when I was growing up and still love it, but I really like this new version as well. Starbuck has really grown on me as the show has progressed, but you're right, Grace Park is very hot. It's too bad they're going on hiatus for a while until they run the second half of season 2.

Well, Season 1 is available on dvd along with the mini series and the Sci Fi Channel is starting reruns of season 2 next Friday (September 30th). I think they'll run through all 10 episodes in successive weeks so you have an opportunity to catch up. Or you could wait for the season 2 dvd release in about a year.

I don't have cable, the only reason I've managed to see one, the first season finale, was because Sci-Fi has for free on their web site. It's not bad, though I'm not a fan of jerky-cam. I only ever liked that technique in the Blair Witch Project, where the whole point was that it was supposed to be due to the actors using a camcorder.

It is rare for a show to captivate my attention quite like Battlestar has done. I think the major pull is that in every show they advance the plot and/or sub-plots. I am also addicted to the Stargate series but unfortunately they do not follow suit and often times have filler episodes between major plot lines. As for the break in episodes I can only hope that they follow the same method they did last year with the first season and release the entire series in Europe while taking their time in the US. There was a wonderful channel called Skyone that blew through the whole season with no breaks and there were obviously enough fans who had this channel to rip it to avi format and release torrents so I could download them.

I don't think Starbuck is slutty at all. She's a strong, opinionated woman, but not slutty. I wasn't sold on her at the beginning, but her character has grown on me and I like her now.

There was a lot of screaming going on at my house when I watched the end of that episode that aired on Friday... I don't want to wait til January to see the rest of the series. :(
Definitly a good show. Very well written and acted.
Starbuck is also not slutty. I would describe her as ballsy, rebellious, doesn't know when to keep her mouth shut, and a tad bit vunerable, but not slutty. I'm curious how you could say she is slutty, is it the age old gender bigotry that if a women sleeps with more than one person in the world they are considered a slut? If so then don't bother replying. The only person I would classify as a slut on that show is Baltar, he actually fucks whoever he can get his hands on.

Damn good show, though until the season finale things were getting kind of stale for me. All of the characters have some pretty good depth.
Highlight text below for crackpot theory.
I like trying to guess who the 12 cylons are. There were 12 primary greek gods, so I'm guessing they relate pretty much one to one. Baltar has got to be Hephestus (Aphrodite had a thing for him, and if anyone is deformed it's Baltar), Aphrodite would be the sultry blonde. Apollo... well... apollo. Zeus... the commander. Hera maybe Ms President.

Only you are mentioning people who couldn't possibly be Cylons, unless they plan to really turn the series upside down. There are supposed to be twelve models of cylons. Let's list the ones so far:
Public Relations guy
Arms dealer guy
Blonde
Grace Park
Lucy Lawless's reporter character
Cylon raider
Cylon centurion/warrior
...and I know I'm forgetting some...
But!
It may be possible that the cylon warrior and raider aren't part of the 12 models mentioned, and that the blond may have been referring only to Cylons made to look like humans.

I'm suprised. During second season when Starbuck returned to Caprica for the Arrow of Appolo. She got kidnapped by the cylons and placed in a facility where they were attempting to breed cylons from human hosts. She was placed in a hospital and was routinely visited by a human cylon who acted as a doctor. He was later killed by Starbuck and then seen again as she was escaping.

No, I have a feeling she is just a collossal bitch. Although anyone who has been in the military can attest that this is pretty accurate of higher ranking officials trying to prove a point no matter how wrong it may be. The thing I am wondering is if Baltar might be one of the Cylons and the imaginary Cylon chick is simply the manifestation that happens when they activate them for their purpose.
Wysen
09-30-2005, 02:57 PM
I agree, I don't think she's a Cylon. Cain is just doing what she thinks is right. Her biggest problem, is she doesn't seem to grasp the concept that the folks running around in those ships are all that humanity has left. She doesn't seem to care about the rest of the fleet, just the two battlestars and everything happening to their crews. She's living by the old rules, that people can be replaced if they step out of line.
Adama realizes the stresses his crew has been through, realizes there are no replacements to the people he has, regardless of how much they can screw up their lives from time to time. He has given a certain amount of leeway to his crew because of this.
An example: Starbuck is a great pilot, and can save more lives in the fleet by continuing to fly, so when she strikes an officer, Adama doesn't demote her, just throws her in the brig for a while to cool down. Cain would have had her demoted, perhaps even removed from service. An action like that would end up costing people lives because Starbuck wouldn't be there to fly as amazingly as she does.

Hmmm. Never thought about that.
One thing that struck me as interesting was the way the military personnel acted on the Pegasus. They actually struck me as realistic military personnel, not the whiny, complicated bleeding hearts that the people on the Galactica seem to be in contrast.
I never thought baout it that way, and don't get me wrong, I much prefer the Galactica personnel to the ones from the Pegasus, but I was in the Army, and the way they portray the Pegasus, from Commander on down is more the way it really is.

That's kind of my point. The people on the Pegasus don't act like they are the last reminents of human society. The people on Galactica do act like they've been through hell in a hand-basket. The episode where the reporter recorded the lives of the crew of Galactica showed alot of what I'm talking about. The people on Pegasus act exactly like what the reporter went over to Galactica to find.

I also think that the guy that got shot on caprica by baltar is a cylon. All his orders were simply aimed at killing off his men (sending them off to fetch medpacks that he orderd be left behind, trying to send the girl off as cannon fodder, atacking the cylons etc)
Also baltar is probbaly a cylon. He helped them destroy the planet, he sees the blonde chick most probbaly through a biological organ that the scan didnt pick up. he also let sharon off with the first cylon test

They try and make it seem that the people aboard Pegasus are more military than the Galactica crew is, but if you really think about it, the Pegasus has had it easier than the Galactica has. The Galactica has been protecting the last few remanants of humanity while the Pegasus has been doing strike and fades and raping a cylon prisoner. Which is worse, constantly remembering that you're the VERY LAST LINE OF DEFENSE FOR YOU SPECIES, or raping, killing and running away.
Also, I hate Cain. Uber-bitch.

I am surprised that Baltar doesn't catch more attention than he does. I mean everyone is allowed a certain amount of eccentric behavior, but for a person to consistantly be caught having complete conversations with himself seems kind of odd. Especially if he has the title of vice president. As for who else is a Cylon I have to believe there is at least one big suprise person.

I agree with Intense on a couple of things. His list of cylons is good however the doctor guy is not considered in my book since sharon said there were eight left in THE FLEET. This doctor was on the planet and has not yet surfaced in the actual fleet. Cylons may not know they are cylons until they are activated and they may not even know other cylons since they think they are human most of time. I say this because I believe that Dr Baltar is not only a cylon but one of the most important cylons of which the entire storyline revolves around. His psychosis serves as the platform for the moral debate between cylon and human. When he was exposed by Sharon who was later found on Pegasus I believe the pictures of his sabotage to be true. Heres my take, Dr Baltar the (genius)is in some way involved in the creation of the human cylon. And some of you are right he is horny, horny enuff to create this vixen 6 who is clearly a character derived from his imagination. She comes on to everyone which hints at this. His very different reactions to the physical forms of Sharon (Galactica and Pegasus) has left something to be discussed as well. He acted like he never seen her before. Lastly, since we are to believe that 6 is either a chip or delusion of his HUMAN mind we are being cornered into believing he is a human fighting off cylon demons which would automatically cancel him out of the cylon running. This seems like an obvious writers ploy.

KiwiKitty
11-01-2005, 11:59 AM
I think Baltar slipped Adama the note. The Cylons aren't that interested in wiping the fleet out, they're coralling them for some "higher" purpose, so the fact that Baltar isn't so much working with the Cylons or the fleet but walking his own line of self preservation (he didn't tell Boomer she was a Cylon in case her sleeper personality came to the fore and killed him, he told the lie about how that officer died on Kobol not to protect the others but to protect himself, the constant lies about his Cylon detector tests, etc) would suggest that 6 told him, believing he'd pass the information on to Adama or someone else, and thus have the Colonials paranoid about their neighbours... and perhaps making them easier to suggestion or direction. As stated in the Pegasus ep, there are two Basestars and another ship shadowing Galactica... they could be looking to wipe the human race out, but then they would or could have done that so much earlier, and that's not taking into account the whole trying to reproduce with Colonials line, either.
I think Baltar doesn't come across as crazy with the conversations because I think a lot of that happens in his head. It's almost like a fantasy or his imagination... 6 isn't really there, and until he jolts back to reality, in a figurative sense, neither is he. This is probably the best evidence he's a Cylon, though, as they do communicate through some unknown network means through space... but then, why can some Cylons communicate seemingly across light years, while others require to be in the same room or within a few kilometres? I know the production team have said this is going to be explored in season 2... looking forward to it.
As to the Pegasus personnel, it's been stated by more than a few people over on the official BSG boards that the Pegasus crew are acting like military personnel cut off from all forms of outside contact. These are people who can't go home, who dehumanise the enemy completely to allow no compassion or slackening of reactions and the like. This was shown most obviously in the rape scene in the brig (that apparently shocked a lot of viewers who weren't expecting things to go that far) but to lesser extents in most of the conversations.
And as pointed out above, that's the difference. Galactica is on a mission to protect the remaining humans, whereas Pegasus is heading for suicide, with a commander who thinks like Adama did up until he was convinced the fleet needed the protection of the Battlestar at the end of the miniseries. Adama regained control of his need to strike back and hurt the enemy; Pegasus didn't, and turned into a ship full of sadists. Anyway, the official forums had it discussed much better along those lines, I recommend people go check them out (sorry, don't have a link, but you can find them with some digging on the scfi-fi page for BSG).
Spoiler text in white:
Oh yeah, the production crew have said not everyone is making it out of this season alive. Expect to see some of the main cast die before season 3.
/Spoiler
Edit: I might also point out, Galactica's crew wasn't quite as professional as the Pegasus', as the crew it had was in the process of decommissioning the ship. While it may have been the active duty crew, it's also likely a lot weren't and had been brought onboard only to help convert the vessel from warship to museum piece.

well let me correct myself. Its Shelley not sharon, too much smokin. Check out Wiki encyclopedia. It gives good insight that supports plenty of our guesses. The original Baltar (after working with the cylons for years) was exiled to a habitable planet as the show ended. I believe the new series is taking a spin on this making Baltar "God". He alone with his genius may have given new life to the cylons which derive from said planet. Our Baltar just doesnt know it and designed 6 to guide him through his ultimate role of betrayal. An insane theory but plausible. The scriptures say that this has all happened before and thus would explain why all of the humano cylons are purpose driven in order to keep the scriptures true but tweaked in cylon favor. I have noticed that all of the revealed cylons have a one track mind. 6 is lusty, leo is the revealer, doral seems to be a sub boss, sharon is all about love or making everyone fall in love with her, dana or whatever (the reporter) has the power to shape the view of the people because she is.......the "news"
I have begun to keep my eye on anyone who plays a 'type' character Starbuck and Roslin especially. Adama is in the mix but only one of the top two can be cylon and my guess is her. If not for Laura, Adama would've stayed and fought the cylons to his death and we wouldn't have a show but most importantly whoever the cylon "god" is wishes to follow the scriptures until change is ready to be enacted. Laura's visions and gut instinct has driven her to actually complete cylon directives. When she is also locked up on Galactica she gives that evil eye right before Sharon puts two in Adamas chest. I think she is a high status cylon that helped orchestrate the deaths of the other 42 (strange she happened to be off the planet) well it was written isnt it, SHes just doing her cylon job. Other cylons also seem strangely submissive to her like leo. Why would she have him in her vision?
Finally in that same episode leo told Kara that she would have a role to play but doesnt know it yet. Now either she is a cylon that can be activated for this role or a cylon would pigeon her into making a certain choice, the choice being to retrieve the arrow. One of these MUST be true because it is not told in scripture. Laura was the pusher in this case.
enuff for me actually I think they are all cylons. If the scriptures say this has happened before than how do we repopulate the 12 colonies which are under cylon occupation?
