Starscream rocks.
Just wanted to tell you all that. BEST Transformer character ever.
As someone put it, every time Megatron sneezed he'd be like "POWER VACCUUM!" and try to take over.

God, the first series kicks ass.
And it still does to this day, which is a major reason why the live action movie will (hopefully still) be G1 style. also has anyone seen the newest Galaxy Force intros, if you haven't well here is the intro (http://www.fantofan.jp/news/video/gfop4-high.wmv) and the outro (http://www.fantofan.jp/news/video/gfed2-high.wmv)

Quick question. Who was better - Optimus Prime, or Starscream?
Prime. I mean, Prime. The ultimate HERO OF THE UNIVERSE. He originated BFG (big fucking gun). He transformed into a MACK TRUCK. I'd have his robot babies if I could.
But then there's Starscream. The OG Bitch. He made no secret about his plans to usurp Megatron. But Megs kept him around. Why? He was THAT DAMN GOOD. Cunning and ruthless. If he was in charge, would the Autobots have been as successful?
Suppose you had to choose one. Who do you choose?

Optimus was the best character, Starscream was the most entertaining.
I know Az was more disappointed that the G1 Transformers got killed off quickly instead of getting a proper send-off, but they should have left the holy trinity untouched: Prime, Starscream and Megatron.
Season 3 was okay... but would have been infinitely better if Prime had appeared in more episodes than Prime is a Zombie, and Prime comes back to save the universe after kicking everyone's ass. Starscream's return was cool, though I wish he wasn't left spinning into space after he got his new body (and after giving Unicron the finger, no less). Galvatron, well... Galvatron wasn;t Megatron. Cyclonus was as loyal as Starscream was treacherous. When his most loyal Lt. commits him to an insane asylum, there is definetly a problem with the character conception.
One other thing, awhile back someone made a manip. using C-span where Optimus Prime won the election and "swore to end the decepticon threat, hunt them down wherever they hide." I use that as my wallpaper on my laptop. Sadly, I would have rather voted for a fictional cartoon character (though extremely pimp one, yo) than the candidates offered last year.
Dr. Hobo is my hero

Optimus Prime is my hero yo! Starscream and Megatron were cool and all, but no one takes Optimus Prime's place. Man if I only still had my G-1 toys, oh well I spent my youth having Prime save the world from everything so it's all good. At least I have a bad ass Prime poster above my comp.

Mirage was always my favorite. Jetfire was probably next, followed by Ironhide. Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream, Blaster, Soundwave, Jazz, Prowl, and the Constructacons all kicked ass as well. Pretty much all of the characters from the first series kicked ass. Except Bumblebee.

Now I admit that I have only ever experienced the original cartoon series so I am a bit behind the times, but I do have some general questions for you transformers guru's.
I agree that bumblebee sucked ass (both character and toy) and can only guess that his reason for being one of the most used transformers was to allow kids to purchase the fairly inexpensive bumblebee and get addicted and start spending more money. But can I get a general consensous as to which character sucked the most? Personnally I wanted someone to accidentally step on Spike or his handicapped friend, but that is just me.
Also I can never remember his name, but it was the only autobot jet. The toy was freaking cool and had portions that were actually metal, but what disturbed me was how much he resembled the WASP from Battletech both in robot form and the method he transformed. Anyone else notice this?
And finally will transformers update with the times? I mean if they are bringing sound blaster back are they going to keep him as a boombox or is he going to upgrade to a cd player?

Good memory too. See Generation 1 toys, for the first few years were actually a bunch of toys from different toylines from Japan. In Japan they were toylines that pretty much had failed and didn't have anime's (for the most part). Diaclone, Microman, Kronoform etc.
What happened is that Hasbro was looking for a toyline in 83 and turned to Japan. Takara showed Hasbro these transforming robot toys form the late 70's and hasbro was interested. But as they were from a bunch of different lines, with no storylines or common theme, Hasbro needed a unifying storyline. They turned to Marvel comics and Sunbow entertainment, who cooked up the Transformers storyline as we know it. It did very well.
Where does this leave Jetfire, the Autobot jet? Well, like I said, most early TF's were figures from earlier toylines. Some figures were actually taken from early Macross lines. Noteables included Roadbuster, Whirl and Jetfire. Jetfires toy is actually the Macross VF-1S Valkyrie with fast pack armor bits. The toy looked extremely different from the cartoon interpretation because of obvious copyright conflicts at the time with Macross and Robotech.
Also means that G1 Jetfire won't be rereleased in any form, and why he didn't last long on toy shelves. Rare as hens teeth these days in good condition.
And finally will transformers update with the times? I mean if they are bringing sound blaster back are they going to keep him as a boombox or is he going to upgrade to a cd player?Transformers is always updating. Theres pretty much been Transformers in stores since 84, with a brief lul early 90's.
Right now theres a few lines available.
Cybertron (aka Galaxy force in Japan). This is the current mainline. While the show and toyline is aimed at kids, some of the figures are excellent. Optimus Prime in particular is a great figure to get.
Universe. Dead line that still may be in some shops. Its a line of repainted figures from years past. No show.
G1 reissues. Dead in America due to low sales, G1 figures are re-released in Japan every few months. Coming up soon are Kup and Wheelie, and Galvatron. Previous reissues include many Autobot cars, Starscream, Soundwave (RARE) and the Insecticons.
Alternators/Binaltech. The 'adult' collectors line. Fucking awesome toys that look like 1/24 models of real world cars. In Japan (Binaltech) they are die cast, while all plastic in the States. Eg Jazz is a Mazda RX-8, Sideswipe and Dead End are Dodge Vipers, Smokescreen and Silverstreak are Subaru WRX/WRC, Windcharger is a Honda S2000 and Grimlock is a Ford Mustang, amongst others Check em here http://tfu.info/series/alternators.htm

Actually seeing how I am dealing with masters of Transformer trivia I guess I can ask this question. My transformer collection started out with two transformers.... Bumblebee and Mirage. My question is, that in the entirety of the G1 episodes as you seem to refer to them as, I can think of only one episode where Mirage was even in it. Am I correct in this? And does this mean he was a rare figure?

I learned early on that if you loved something as a kid and you value your memories of it, don't watch it again now that you are older. When I was a kid "The Dark Crystal" was the best movie ever. I watched it again recently, and although good, it was nowhere near as good as I remember it. I have a feeling Transformers would be the same.

Like Kiwi said, weak feet are inherent to the toy. Espeically Takara ones.
Should pop back on.
Before you pop it on, put some nail polish (clear) on the ball joints that connect the foot to the leg. Wait for it to dry. Should tighten it up a bit.

Lol, trust me, it doesnt slot back in. Well It kinda does but by moving it slightly it just slides right out realy easily. Wheras the good foot sometimes does come out, you just click it back in place then its fine. Ive even disected both feet with a screwdriver and compared the sockets. I was there for like an hour finely analysing both sockets like measuring them etc and they ARE exacytly the same! I just dont get it  ! And I deffinatly know its not the balls problem because the foot foot can fit onto it, wheras the bad foot doesnt fit onto anything. And I dont THINK its a fake cuz I bought it off Ebay brand new from the factory, boxed, selataped, bubblewrapped inside, the little plastic wire things wrapped around the toy in its plastic casing (those plastic wire things are asses lol). Its pretty much straight from the factory but i think I just got the very unfortunate short straw. And for the guy who posted those pics of a Masterpiece Ultra Magnus, I was amazed when I saw that, is it out yet? Or is it a prototype?
edit: Oh lol, I didnt read the writing on the Magnus page, so you made that yourself? Pretty good

I didn't make it; the guy who made it is one of those independent types who made it from scratch, they're for sale, but due to the custom work needed to make it you have to pay a down payment of 10%, and wait a couple of months for construction. A measly $700 + $40 shipping.
I'm not getting that, to me it's not worth it for an Ultra-Magnus skeleton. However, when I have some spare cash I will gladly spend the $400 for the highest end Optimus Prime trailer he sells. Cause Optimus? Totally needs his trailer, particuarly Wheeler. At the very least you need a big ass trailer that disappears when he transformers :)

I didnt like Rodimus cause I felt like he lost the "speedy" look and gained the "futuristic, trucker trash" look.
Yea, Optimus is still the undisputed badass best leader ever, but Hot Rod was also a favorite (if not, my actual favorite).

Maybe it's cause Im not a kid anymore, but Transformers today sucks. Im not talking G1 (that...regardless of the times I go back to watch it and see so many errors and poor animation, will always be badass), but the new ones that have started playing.
Maybe its because of the dubs, but they dont have the same impact the original does. You really felt there was a real "war" going on with G1, with a new character that could pop up any minute just because you knew there were more out there, or more characters you could make (i.e. the dinobots, aerialbots, etc.). The new series typically have maybe 6-8 Decepticons Vs. double-digit Autobots...that's just boring, especially when Decepticons now are just meant to look like idiots rather than warriors. If anything, its just gotten to cartoony.
And then there's the new Optimus Prime Voice. Sorry, but there's NO Optimus I've seen so far that can match the original's deep, solid, badass voice. I saw only one episode of the new series and wanted to vomit, simply cause now Transformers series are going on just a gimmick to sell their toys rather than this new character who popped up in this bad ass war.
I dunno what episode of TF cybertron it was, but all I remember is the New Optimus Prime looking down at 4 random kids on the ground (since when have humans REALLY been that important in Transformers? Furthermore, who cares about em?) while a "lock" is falling.
Now picture and hear junkhead saying: "The O-me-ga-lock!"
...seriously, I'm glad I grew out of it while it was still cool.

Sadly, the last really excellent Transformers series was Beast Wars. And that made sure to at the very least pay homage to the G1 storyline (Optimus Primal admiring Optimus Prime and all of that). In addition to that, you had the bad-assedness that was Dinobot, Megatron and his rubber-ducky, Rattrap and the ridiculously powerful ant-guy who kept calling Megatron his "queen". Great stuff!
Now, back to G1. Optimus Prime was the man. We know this for a fact. He was an incredibly smart, powerful and wise leader. Who did he put as his second-in-command? Jazz. Why? Because Jazz was the shit. I think Jazz was my favorite transformer behind OP. He was a good warrior, he liked music, his name was JAZZ and he was voiced by SCATMAN CROTHERS! Seriously, Jazz was just awesome.

Takara uses smaller houses to do the shows, under storyline behest from Hasbro and Takara.
They used GONZO to do the show, and the Japanese and AMerican dubbings have different storylines.

01-24-2006, 09:25 AM
Doesn't matter. We'd have a serious scene going and then we'd have VERY BAD yoddling out of nowhere, for no reason.
Not to say all the comedy was bad. Not long after Megatron ressurected himself (in a brilliant 'I still Function' moment), he started igniting his own temporary base...made of Energon...he then started laughing like a crazed maniac until Cyclonus sad "Uhm...Boss?", then Megatron looks over, notices the explosion and goes "Oh, right".
This was how a funny moment should have been, not really bad Car Robots/Robots in Disguise elementary-grade humour. That show started off so well, too...and so damn Dark. Zombie/Ghost Starscream, Demolishor conflicted and actually reaching out to a human about what faction to stay with (The possibility of Megatron being alive vs. being the military guardians of Cybertron itself), etc etc.
Then they kill it. They kill it so dead.

Know what I really wanna see?
4-5 years ago, one guy became infamous on the net for building a giant diorama of Autobot City and Char and posting pictures of it, making specific areas for specific lines of Transformers (such as a water area for water based bots, jungle type area for beast wars bots, a battle station area using all the cabs of all the Optimus Primes and other Autobot leaders, city areas using Metroplex and Fortress Maximus, etc). He even had a small area for the Ark.
Unfortunately, I deleted my link to the place a long time ago but could never find it again. Does anyone else have a link to these pics? I'd love to see em again, at least to see if hes updated em. It really was an amazing diorama he made using real transformers.

well this is one of several different tf series being made, plus it is still a work-in-progress so it might look completely different with the final version.

This one isn't Japanese. All the other series were Japanese series.

well, most were japanese anyways. also, that is WHY i said a work-in-progress. an example would be the fiasco that happened a few years back when warner brothers announced an new look for the looney toons gang.

Most of them were Japanese because they decided to continue the series after the original one ended in America. Anyway...the designs are done by the Legion of Superheroes/Teen Titans dude so...that's gonna be the look.

And what pray are these other series being made?
Some more info on the new animated series:
"Cartoon Network Studios and Hasbro are co-producing a new animated Transformers series, which will premiere in January and is hoped to build on the momentum created by the highly anticipated live-action feature film opening July 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
There have been three other Transformers series on Cartoon Network and eight series altogether since 1984. But this is the first one Hasbro is co-producing with Cartoon rather than its Japanese toy and production partner, Takara.
Cartoon and Hasbro executives told the trade paper that the new series, Transformers Animated, will be significantly different from the others, adding humor, never-before-seen characters and a new premise in which the Autobots fight evil humans in superhero fashion much more frequently than they battle the Decepticons, the traditional Transformers enemy since the franchise launched as a toy line in 1984.
The animated series won't pick up on any of the themes from the Paramount/DreamWorks film, which is directed by Michael Bay.
In the new Cartoon series, the robots will have a lot more human qualities, allowing kids to identify with the characters much more than in previous series.
The plan is to produce 26 half-hour episodes, as well as a 90-minute special that will serve as the series premiere. Matt Youngberg (Teen Titans, The Batman) is the supervising director of the series, Sam Register (Teen Titans) will serve as executive producer."

That is by far the gayest Transformers-related thing I've ever seen.

I dunno, those transformers anal beads were pretty hard to beat. They had to take them off the shelves, though. Too many mid-anus transformation accidents.

There is nothing gay about a man filling his ass with tiny robots.
